Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I fitted my Cutter out for mining on my recent trip, but now I'm back I refitted it again for Armed Trading. I was thinking of buying a second one, but I think 512T in a miner is a bit overkill. I rarely came back with a quarter of that on a mining trip.
I fill mine every time. I've got a platinum hot spot 2 jumps away. Takes about an hour and a half to fill it up and I sell it for 120 to 150 million.

I like how there was a fog hanging in this valley, kind of a surreal view.

I think I'm addicted to on-foot missions. It's not as if I need the upgrades. It's just that I find them really enjoyable - despite all the nay-saying of the Oddy hate crew. Ah well, each to their own and I suppose I'll go back to "classic" ED sometime... :D
I'm actually very much looking forward to it. It's just that it's a bit much for my old GTX 960 to handle at a level of detail I would like.

I'm glad for FDev's sake there are people who like them. On the odd occasions I start one, I quickly feel like I'm wasting valuable play time that could be spent doing something in a spaceship :ROFLMAO:
But then I'm 15 months into ED, not 4 years+

I'm running Odyssey on a GTX660 at low detail but my spectacles are a couple of years out of prescription, so I can't tell the difference.
I run my 960 on Ultra for most things. I get a solid 75 FPS (monitor limit) in space, but I hit a dock or a planet surface and it quickly drops to 25 FPS even with low planet details.

I'm upgrading in October for my birthday. I'll be getting at least an RTX 3060 TI. If the price goes down a bit I'll go for the 3070 TI. Then I'll look into ground pounding.

Yes, me too. The Odyssey missions are excellently designed, very immersive, and never exactly the same twice.

I guess people were so turned off by the performance issues that the entire thing got a bad rep.

But I think the missions are brilliant and a step above what we get for in-ship missions. Except when they bug out, which is fortunately rare :p

Also the YooTubers all suggest just raiding bases to get mats. None of them suggest doing the missions, because "it takes longer." Silly.
Speaking of YouTube, there's a few videos on the Thargoid war in HIP 22460, I'm surprised there aren't more commanders out fighting and evacuating stations. I was reading a thread about how nobody can find passenger cabins, I stocked up and stored a lot of those just for this event, now I'm deep in the black.

I was out there the other day. I left because there was no way to do it without getting all kinds of fines and bounties. After having to hand myself over for the third time, I got frustrated and left.

Mmm, yes. Raid bases to get mats so that you can upgrade suits and guns to be better at doing missions that only have one purposes once your kit is upgraded - BGS faction support with inf+ missions on foot or winning ground CZs. Most of the youtubers don't seem to care for BGS faction support.
