Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

So, nothing has been sacrificed for the 100 players cap? No NPC count reduced or such? No real perf differences with the previous 50 players cap?

I have an itch to hats off to CIG then.

No announced sacrifices nope.

It kinda depends how it performs on full live servers though. If it still does stuff like this after a bit of use:

Then I dunno. I'm not totally feeling the hat tip ;)

There doesn't seem to be any issues, I wasn't on long last night...just long enough to do the character creation thing and check the bank balance and ships as well as buying a gun or two....but the frame rates were good for me, no jankiness or desync when viewing other players moving in and around the outfitting shop at area 18, there were around 20 players in there all queueing up politely to use the shopping terminal when I was in there... plus a few heading in or out of the store...it's the the most players I've seen in on place at the same time (The patch was only a few minutes live so very busy too). It was smoother than it has been for a long time, NPC's moving about etc and my framerates never dropped below 70fps. 🤷‍♂️

I wouldn't go as far as doffing the cap at Ci¬G or anything...but a reserved nod of cautious approval wouldn't go far amiss :)

Framerates shouldn't really be impacted crazily in those circumstances though right? It'd only be like large gatherings of ships / players that'd you'd expect to have a more noticeable hit. (Especially if they were doing more than terminal shopping ;))

That said, 70fps is pretty good for a station.

On server health, I'm skimming through Berk's overnight 3.17.2 stuff. And server health looks... still iffy ;)

He did have more luck in an earlier bunker raid, with NPCs at least heading towards him and such. Although not without the odd teleport etc.

EDIT: He stole the dropship, then his game crashed ;)

It wasn't so much the framerates I noticed..although 70fps is particularly good at area 18, it was more watching other players...As I headed out of the hab there were 6 of us crammed into the elevator, all heading to the outfitting shop just outside the habs. There wasn't any jerky desync like there usually is when looking at other players movements...which surprised me a bit since the patch had just dropped and a few thousand space muppets had all just logged in at the same time.

Like I said, all I did was pop over to the shop and buy a gun or 2 so time will tell once I head out into the wilds in a ship once the servers settle down into their normal rhythm :)

Yeah the movement smoothing they've done does seem to be having an effect.

Still not without issues in the clips I'm dropping in on though ;)

You need to run excitably into lifts while screaming more ;)
You may have hit on something there...I don't do the Duracell bunny sprinting and jumping around thing...more of an assimilation of a slow ArmA style asthmatic jog since I'm never in that much of a rush to get anywhere. Might be why they're having issues with the game physics more than I do 🤷‍♂️

We may concede streamers having a double workload on their connection might encounter more issues than normal players?

Might explain some of the collision issues / local syncing etc, sure.

Doesn't explain, say, the multiple client crashes Berks experienced in that 3.17.2 session, or the times when the AI just spaced out, or all the other stuff though ;)

I'd still put more money on sheer playtime, the usual preference for co-op play, and the drive to try all of the content (to keep the stream varied over time), being the primary aspects though. Expose yourself to everything, put the highest demands on the game's capacities, and bugs will come ;)

He flew very close to the wall at high speed, its not an excuse and it shouldn't be so but any one who has put a good number of hours in to Star Citizen knows you don't take risks like that.

Its the same with the running at full speed 3 abreast in to elevators, again, they should know not to do this.

IMO they know exactly what they are doing, its staged, they are doing it deliberately, as @Mole HD has alluded to i can play for 1000 hours and never come across any of the bugs they seem to be encountering literally every 2 minutes.
They are doing it for views, its the clown thing, people like clowns, if they are streaming going from one calamity to the next and the next and the next...... people will watch it.

People like this will always find ways of humorous calamitous things happening to them, because they earn their views by being clowns.

So far...I'd say the game was smoother, less server desync issues than previously (so far)... especially from where the pair of us are looking from a regular players point of view. I don't really give a toss about how many issues the shouty streamers are having... since I don't rely on them to find out how SC is running. I can just go into the game and see for myself ;)

Its running much better than 3.17.1, of course as a game it has plenty of problems, but for the most part if you don't know what they are you're unlikely to encounter them.

So you're saying Morph and Tomato did this to make the Gen12 dev look bad? ;)

Or when they got stuck in the rocks multiple times in the cave? Or nearly died of dehydration because drinking wasn't working for them?

Nah man, I'm not buying it. They all get genuinely annoyed/frustrated by bug setbacks. (As Berks was in the above clip, even if he's playing up to it. He wanted to set his spawn at Microtech).

There may be other factors at play to make streamers more susceptible to bugs, but most of the big ones definitely aren't seeking them out. There's enough travel time, and trouble herding cats into groups, as it is without that on top.

(Aside from anything else, a lot of these long-term streamers are Concierge+, and get $$ ship give-aways from CIG. They've got various reasons to make the game look better rather than worse, and so contribute to its longer-term success.)

I don't think the streamers are deliberately doing anything at all...but there's obviously a difference in how they play as opposed to how @Intrepid3D and I play. Sure, both of us know the bugs and issues and we generally make efforts to avoid them as best we can...it's a bit like being a kid, you just know if you stick your hand in the fire it's going to hurt. I play accordingly...if I do a particular thing and it invokes a bug...I'll not be doing it again.

Streamers on the other hand are entertainers, they're not playing the game perhaps as they would as a player or as part of a group playing on their own time...they need clicks and views to support what they do so play accordingly for an audience. It's the reason I don't stream, nor will I ever...I couldn't play the way I want to whilst being distracted by an audience. 🤷‍♂️

My only concern is to play the way I want to and occasionally report here on my experiences in doing so. I don't have any vested interest in either promoting or decrying Star Citizen...that's for others to form opinions on depending on their own viewpoint. I try to tell it like it is from my own experience, good and bad, nothing more or less.

Yep for sure. I'm just contesting the 'staging it' idea mainly. Dont think that's happening much. (Especially if it means another 10mins of unentertaining QT ;)).

But they'll happily embrace the comedy side of the jank as and when it happens, for sure. And run straight into a fire if one beckons, and they think it'll be entertaining ;)
