Newcomer / Intro Destroyed At Deciat

I concur. I actually had fun with the gankers last night, for a while. Got to dump 100+ tons of biowaste on one of them...before they killed me. Added several to my friends list as the night went on...now I can see them on the gal map...hehe
Yes I'm always surprised the Deciat gankers don't spend all their time fighting each other since they're usually the only people in Open there. They probably all know each other by now.

Thats in easy one, they are too rubbish at PvP and too scared to fight another ship equipped to fight back.

Yea, but usually gankers enjoy each others company, so the chances to block "innocents" are rather slim.
And if that happens you can still chat with the rest of the wing and explain them they are winged with a ganker and if they want to be able to play along with you they should drop him
Chances they'll drop him (i read at least one story here on the forums that went exactly like above)
Interesting...

I suppose one could befriend spear commanders too, as apparently it's quite popular for gankers to block them. :D

This ought to have the effect of placing you in an instance together with a spear commander and free of blocking gankers..

Another good trick is to congratulate the ganker and send them friend request. If they accept, from that point onward you know exactly where they are and all times. ..and can go anywhere else.

I've heard/read that spear are no better, but 🤷‍♂️

Well, this goes both ways :)

I'd wish for some privacy setting which can hide our location from friends and PG members... There are moments where i dont want anyone to know my location

It's possible on consoles, there are 2 levels of such privacy setting: one is in the game settings and hides the location from the account public profile (as everyone can see that otherwise, your friends will always see your location from the game "friends online" anyway), the second one is at account level as it is possible to play "appearing offline" and no one else can see you playing or where you are from the game friends list (squadron members can still see you from sq menu).

The few people I've met from Spear are of the same ilk indeed.

It has to be said, however, that I don't go around scanning everyone in supercruise, to see who they are, or their squadron, so I only see the squadron of those who interdict me: as far as I am aware, they could have been just a few rotten apples.

In any case, I always keep an eye on the Fer de Yawns flying around, since the attack is coming from one in the vast majority of cases.

The one I have the most experience with, and at times seek out on purpose, usually flies a Krait or a Mamba, in a wing of 2 or 3.

I had never fought Thargoids and never PvP. I had great fun with the CG this week and had even more fun with open and High. Really nice intro so ty Devs. Limped out of CZ with 50% everything and didn't go to Solo. Got intercepted about 1mil out of Megaship and so so slowly picked off by a hero ganker. I understand piracy and the drop some cargo and we let u go but this had no demands. I do not understand this "sport". I would love to spend more time in Open but these bullying events completely destroy any fun.

In case you're not aware, there are ways to deal with the gankers but they can take up some time. They also take practice but one CAN escape or avoid.

Usually when I first go into open where the gankers are (they're on my friends list, so I know where they are), I spend some time playing with them, and then after they get their pound of flesh they usually leave me alone. I think it helps that I try to fight back or dump biowaste on them...I don't usually try to run but I have been successful at it.

As for their rationale, it comes down to a)because they can and b)ship go boom hahaha...it's really that simple. Avoiding/escaping the players who are hunting them is fun for them too. Its fun to watch that too, the banter in the chat that is.

But if you really don't want them to bother you, then PG or Solo is best. Its just usually lonely though. I was able to wing up in Open with other CMDRs at the FNS Varian Scott High AXCZ the other day, that was a lot of fun.

Also, my carrier was parked one jump away from 22460 so when the CZ is over, or I need to leave it, I jump instead of supercruise, which completely bypasses them on the way out.

As @nemolomen has said, you need to consider these types of attacks as another minigame, where the objective is to thwart them by avoiding then in supercruise or evading them should you be interdicted. It's pretty high stakes, but you can with practice escape most of the time.

Or, if that doesn't sound like your bag, use the modes or blocking to avoid completely that type of content.

Either way, what they do in the game is perfectly "legal" so best to have a plan to deal, rather than wishing this type of activity away.

Thank you all for the wise words. As Austin Powers so wisely said "That's not my bag baby"

Ethelred above mentioned modes and blocking. I assume modes are the solo\open but what is blocking?

I have never teamed up with anyone (virgin). Would this make any difference ? Other rival experiences ( I hesitate calling this a game, more a way of life ..) have guilds. I know we have Powers but would this make any difference?

It's a more precise social filter than Solo and Private Groups vs Open as it permits each player to excise particular CMDRs from their gameplay - significantly reducing (if not zeroing) the chances of instancing with those CMDRs in either of the multi-player game modes.

Click on a recent CMDR contact in the comms menu and the game gives the player the option to block the CMDR.

Teaming up, my favorite game play, will probably not make any difference against gankers unless you, and your teammates, have highly engineered meta ship builds and many hours of experience.

They, the gankers, fly ships which are designed to last one encounter and provide maximum damage...they're custom built to do what they do but they are not, in my knowledge, extremely effective at fighting ships built specifically for PvP, which don't do as much damage but are built to last several encounters...

But I may be incorrect regarding some of what I wrote here...
