Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Yep for sure. I'm just contesting the 'staging it' idea mainly. Dont think that's happening much. (Especially if it means another 10mins of unentertaining QT ;)).

But they'll happily embrace the comedy side of the jank as and when it happens, for sure. And run straight into a fire if one beckons, and they think it'll be entertaining ;)
I don't think they do even that...they're just playing a game... but for an audience, not themselves. It's the reason folk watch their streams...if they watched anything I streamed, they'd be hurling abuse and heading straight back to Mikey or Berks :D

They're also high level concierge through streaming, it's not like they're fronting up bling barge purchases from their own pocket per se...the streaming income is what pays for the ships...

You must mean ships are gifted to them by CIG to make the streams seem more interesting and lure more backers into SC.
Nope...they don't get ships as a freebie thank you from Ci~G...they stream content and get paid for it by the people who watch and subscribe to their channels. If you can produce evidence of it rather than urban myth, I'd be genuinely surprised. I'm honestly not aware of any high profile streamer outside of Rexshilla who have had ship handouts from Ci~G for streaming content...even then, he might have had incentives of some kind, but I doubt free ships were part of it.

Ci~G at one point had limited access 'press' or streamer accounts for certain prominent content creators during events...which is where I suspect you got the idea that Ci~G are giving away freebies to everyone with a Twitch account...even Obsidian Ant had one with a few ships tied to it (outside of his own personal SC account) for free-fly events etc, but it's far from the norm.

Even the likes of Captain Richard...his streaming of Second Life paid for his initial concierge account with SC until he became a regular high volume content creator for that. Through his own admission, his streaming income is what paid for his 50 grand spending on SC, not his own cash.

The bigger streamers are 100% given ships to do what they please with. Most do ship giveaways. But the streamer could keep the ship if they wanted to.

So CIG have never given ships to streamers, streamers have never done giveaways of ships gifted to them by CIG? Come on.

And here is good ol' Mr I-played-all-SQ404-missions-in-2016 admitting to giving a prominent streamer preferential treatment, his own server, and even piloting a ship himself that cannot be played in game to make his stream more exciting. Add ?t=1431 if the link does not work.

Shocked and stunned I tell ya :D

...and I'll happily concede the point if they can indeed keep the ships and add them to their personal account rather than just use or give them away as part of a promotional event in a press package ;)

I didn't say that...you're inferring it. They're using or giving the ships away as part of a promotional package outside of their personal accounts. It's free advertising for Ci~G...hence why it doesn't surprise me that they do it.

Just as a point of note...they always seem to suffer weird stuff I never come across in regular play...and I've honestly no idea why

You may have hit on something there...I don't do the Duracell bunny sprinting and jumping around thing...more of an assimilation of a slow ArmA style asthmatic jog since I'm never in that much of a rush to get anywhere. Might be why they're having issues with the game physics more than I do 🤷‍♂️

Didn’t you also mention at one point that they also stay on an ailing server far longer than you consider reasonable?

Sure, some buy their own ships. I doubt the ones that do, and I would wager they are in the minority, do it because they believe in the game.

They get paid for it, either directly or indirectly.
They get paid for it by the muppets who subscribe to their channels...free money for playing games, I picked the wrong job

I've probably put more of my own cash into SC than half of the big audience streamers have...it's their viewers who are paying for their concierge status, not their own funds...if there's a difference 🤷‍♂️

This might blow your mind but... have you heard of V-tubers?
There was enough shouting and wailing when some of our boys stupidly decided to post certain questionable taste videos on YouTube a while back...tends to be that our main talents in my old job aren't really appreciated by folks who still believe in unicorns, honest politicians and that the only real bad guys are the slightly brownish terrorists they so fear. Not so nice when Mrs Brown realises that her lovely boy, Jimmy, is doing the same thing right back at those supposed bad people

I'm sure you're right, they definitely donate ships to some streamers but those ships are for giveaways not for the streamer, so the streamer isn't benefitting.

edit - just to add, the streamers I've seen are explicit that they've been given a certain ship to give away. And I remember wtfosaurus once paid for ships himself, gave them away, and found that no it wasn't worth it for the increased viewer numbers. No idea what he does now ...
