What other games are we all playing?

SMAC, God I played that way too much. That lisp of Santiago, tho. And the wonder vids were neat, good sound design. God, I still can hear the fricken UI-sounds just thinking about it.
There was an expansion I think? Bought the game anew years ago. Something terraforming? Not sure.

I played the 2014 successor to SMAC Beyond Earth but it didn't capture me. Notable moments in the civ-likes was a run in Civ 6 with the Maori. I snatched the New World landmass as starting continent and had it all for myself. Amazing playthrough.

Pretty sure I loaded an emulator or somthing some time back to play Colonization again. SM games had something special. Even Pirates! was enjoyable - didn't need to be civ like. Played SM Gettysburg with a friend until we were sick of it. Then we invited another friend to play it with us. And you could play coop just like that. No fuss, just connect and take command. Good times.

Anyone remember Heart of Gold?

So many games, so little time!

You said it.
I bought two new space games a few days ago and I'm having issues putting enough time in them to learn to play; considering I must play X4 (and some AW when the combat itch needs scratching).
Helium Rain has been more entertaining than Astrox Imperium during these first few hours of learn and play.
I will not regret spending money on Astrox if I decide I don't like it because the lone developer has a interesting story that reminds me of Evochron. But then, strange as it is, Helium's flight model reminds me of Evochron.

Oh well, I'll continue to move forward.
have a nice day

Edit: I was looking for space games that have land-able planets and came up with this list:
Elite Dangerous
Space Engineers
No Man's Sky
Star Citizen
Escape Velocity Nova
Rodina
Evochron Legacy

Are there any other games/sims that let you fly from orbit to land anywhere on a planet ?
Inquiring minds want to know.

ESO for the moment...bought it back in 2016, tried it and hated it...decided to reinstall it just to see if my dislike had mellowed over time. Strangely enough, I'm enjoying it this time around. 🤷‍♂️
I was all excited and about to say "Friend me!" but then I realized you're likely on the UK server rather than the US server, so we'll never get to meet in Tamriel. :(

Strangely enough, the guys I usually play along with are all on the north American servers...even though we're all in the UK. :)

Well maybe I'll bump into you someday! I can't remember my exact screen name, but I'm sure it has "Old Duck" in there somewhere. I play ESO almost every day, even if just for 30 minutes, to get my endeavors and free gift. My wife is also an ESO addict, but she's on PS4 so we are together but separated.

I'm back to Stellaris.

It came a long way since 2016, but sometimes its a bit overwhelming with features.
Still, nothing beats bringing order to the Galaxy as a fanatic militarist Terran Federation

Never completed a playthrough. Always had new ideas about builds. Some day I'll make a complete run.
Hehe I can feel that. I finish maybe 1 out of 10 runs.
Sometimes it's an annoying starting position, sometimes I made a mistake in a build, sometimes the enemies are just rubbish (being boxed in by two advanced civs and a fallen empire? Urgh)
Last game before my current I was so annoyed by having the wrong ship prefixes (forgot to change the standard ISS prefix) that I quit 😵

I have another pair of games I'm on the fence with: U-Boat and Cold Waters. what to do ?
I'm so confused.

Have a nice day

U-boat is a crew management sim as well as being a submarine game...but a very good sub sim if you don't mind the sometimes heavy focus on the crew management bits. Cold Waters is a classic cold war era sub sim, one of the all time go-to's for sub sim fans. U-Boat is a modern title and more visually appealing when compared to Cold Waters, the gameplay is an interesting twist and I really enjoyed it... I'd recommend both games pretty highly having played them both. Both have their pros and cons...but if I had to pick just one...being a long time fan of the more traditional sub sim gameplay style, it'd be Cold Waters. :)

I have the U-Boat game, started playing it, but I think I've reached my limit of games that each require a college degree to play. I'm just not in the mood to learn another complex game. I already have a degree in:
  • Space Engineers
  • X4 Foundations
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator
  • Elder Scrolls Online
  • Elite Dangerous
  • Transport Fever 2
  • No Man's Sky
  • a bunch of older games like Skyrim and Subnautica that I don't play anymore
Games in my catalog that require a degree but I don't have any room left in my brain to learn:
  • Stellaris
  • Surviving Mars (got this for free)
  • X3: Everything
  • Kerbal Space Program
  • Endless Space 2
  • UBoat
  • EGS
  • etc
With that in mind, I'm more likely to buy simpler games these days with less of a mental "entrance fee" to play. These include:
  • Dead Or Alive
  • Soul Calibre
  • Overwatch
  • Overload
  • Rebel Galaxy
  • Tomb Raider
  • etc
Not that these games don't require some learning, but not on the same scale as a space ship, airplane, submarine, or city simulator. I used to have Cold Waters on my wishlist, but I realized it would just end up on that list of "bought but never played" games that is already too big.

Surviving Mars (got this for free)
Surviving Mars is worth learning, just for the awesome music.

Beware, though: most of the DLCs come with what I consider an unhealthy dose of “Pay to Win” IMO, especially the “cosmetic” ones. Even the two “must haves” DLCs, Space Race and Green Mars, include enough P2W “content” that they undermine the new challenges both DLCs introduce.

Surviving Mars is not difficult to learn at all.
I don't have the paid DLCs, I never wanted to turn Mars green.
It's a fun time waster.

How demanding is it graphically? Maybe I'll load it on my travel laptop and give it a go while on a long bus trip.
