I'm trying to bag a Medusa flesh sample before they get extinctified on Tuesday ...
assuming Salvation turns out to be saviour of the human, as opposed to Thargoid, race that is of course.
Cyclops / Basilisk .. yep can do that no worries. Threat 9, Hydra, tougher but doable. Think I'll get there with a fair wind but the bigger Medusa Thargon swarm is giving me a real hard time at the minute.

No kidding. Best described as "quite challenging"!
Survival less of an issue by now but the boost reflex is making it a struggle to stay in range of the limpet.
I think you're asking if the Scorpion has a Composition Scanner? If so, then yes. It only lacks the Wavescanner.
But scanning a plant with your hand scanner will automatically give you the Codex entry anyway, so it wouldn't really matter.
I still scan from the SRV or Ship sometimes, just because.

I keep threatening to make it easier by taking a ship with more medium hard points than a Chief for more flak launchers. But there always seems to be something higher priority to do.
I love doing that but admit it is partly from wanting to report it,
And partly from imagining a future explorer proudly setting the first footfall, and imagining they will also get the first report. DENIED. Sometimes.
I only bother on impulse but it is so fun, like goin down for a sniff

Heat sinks I understand and quite a lot of 'oblique' boosting (boosting AT the interceptor seems to cause either a big collision or a swarm in the face). The only thing I've tried to take out while sampling is a Scout or two if possible before the main Interceptor arrives. After that focus turns to counteracting the shut down field, getting the limpet back aboard and high waking the heck out of there!
