Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Stands the church clock ten to three? And is there Tharg-flesh still for tea ;) A full house!

Heat sinks I understand and quite a lot of 'oblique' boosting (boosting AT the interceptor seems to cause either a big collision or a swarm in the face). The only thing I've tried to take out while sampling is a Scout or two if possible before the main Interceptor arrives. After that focus turns to counteracting the shut down field, getting the limpet back aboard and high waking the heck out of there!
I am a little envious of that collection 🤠

I decided to do a bit of mining today. The system I'm in is set up rather nicely for it, with several rocky rings, a few metal-rich rings, and one metallic ring. I decided to do Core mining, so I got out my Krait MKII that is set up for that.

I chose the nearest Rocky ring and checked it out. There were a few hotspots, although I could not see how big they were because the yellow circles are not appearing for me. But I could target them, so I dropped into a Monazite hotspot and started looking for cores.

The visuals for the Pulse Wave Scanner are rather different in Odyssey than what they used to be in Horizons, but I liked them more. It was quite easy to identify Core asteroids. I found 3, one Monazite, one Serendibite, and one Benitioite. I spent maybe an hour out there and brought back the results. I calculated (based on today's prices) that they were worth about 25 million credits. I'll store 'em on my carrier for later.

It was a very relaxing time, and visually stunning.

I've had the missing yellow circles a lot. Sometimes a relog helps.

The yellow glowing hotspots are very hit and miss.
I noticed it was my easier to identify cores in Odyssey. Just look for the very bright glowing rocks when using PWA. You can keep up the boost speed and spot them at quite a distance. I was reliably finding Monazite cores within 2 minutes each time giving earnings about the same as laser mining platinum.

This exobiology lark is ranking up real slow...sheesh how many estimated scans does one have to do to get elite?
Anyways busy at it...alot of first footfalls hehe out here in the fringes of the black.
Parked the carrier out here 1600ly out and haven't moved it.
Just encircling it with blue dots hehe. 100s of em. Circles getting bigger.
Omg the mapping alone pays 30+ mill a day plus bios.

Missing waterworlds ammonia worlds high metal terrraformables etc...unforgivable @! Hehe. Just leaves more to farm.
Is it boring? No.
To others perhaps but I'm fascinated by it. And of course I'm in gorgeous ultra high res 4k VR

I've been giving it a prolonged break - I'm at geneticist and that took long enough.

I'm 4k too but pancake... one day I'll go VR especially if they get the on-foot game utilising it.

I swear if fdev implemented on foot VR. It would be an overnight success, bugs aside, once it's implemented settled in after a few hotfixes etc 1000s will come.
I'm convinced of that.
Idk what their doing!
1000s of eye candy merchants queue at the gates awaiting entry @!

I agree. There'd be drool all over the forums - 50% from eye candy, 50% from bug infection but it'd be really great.

I'm sure FDev have their reasons for not making it so.

Money.

Again, it's a cost-benefit sort of thing. How many people can afford VR vs. how many people can't. The vast majority simply can't afford it. That's why VR at this point hasn't really taken off anywhere. It's more of an experiment for the folks that can shell out the money for it than anything else at this stage of the game.

- Especially given that the majority of VR users are on consoles right now and they don't even make Odyssey for consoles and aren't going to.

I dolled up my Lakon Diamondback yesterday for a real trip in a tin can, and here we go. We left Bhrizameno via Laksak, Wyrd, and Sirius, and set off at about 2000,x,1000 now. Where's Rupee off to?

I muse about that. Gaps are common or sloppy discovery by D-scan or proximity on the stars and very inner objects only. So it seems they were just passin' through

But what really bakes my noodle is stranger gaps and patterns. I even seen some where the primary star is uncredited but some planets were. I had a theory how it might happen but is bizarre. Maybe they departed a carrier in that area (that has never reported the rest?)

I probably left some strange ones behind myself falling asleep at the stick on late night space truckin'

Before FSS became a thing, you needed to target the primary star and face it for 10 seconds to get it scanned, like any other astronomical object, no autoscans back then.
