Dunno if the way we do it is better. Easier sure. Perhaps too easy

They were probably on the way somewhere, or searching for something else than "valuables".
Nowadays it's easy to scan / discovery tag everything. The money is in mapping (using DSS / probes) said "valuables".
And there are many explorers who don't do it for the money.
I do map the "valuables" usually, but I don't need the money, I just do it to feel having surveyed the system "more completely", doing a detailed scan on bodies that would be of greater interest in game world context.

Well Codger, I hope your imagination led you to many fine and interesting places; I mean a sniff such as Disney's Pluto the Dog conducting a most cursory investigation.

Thanks Google Gomez, you know if that is not exactly what I meant, it is certainly worth a try for spritzing in the cargo hold and on the flight attendants. It is a spacesuit-safe approved brand as well. Yes please on go ahead, add 1T trial size of Magnifique to my shopping cargo hold

Since Zac posted that we should be in the system when it all goes down tomorrow, I flew my Alt over there in his little red DBX.

I even got hyperdicted on the way, although it was very dark. I got this pic:

The Thargoids did not attack me.

Here I am on Bright Sentinel. I guess that's a good place to wait.

I'm actually expecting the game to crash repeatedly with so many CMDRs in the system, so I'm playing it safe and just parking my Alt there

But if something spectacular does happen, I'll be there to witness the Orange Sidewinders for myself!

On a slightly related note to anyone who may be reading - do the BINDS thing. Although having them go AWOL after an update hasn't happened for a long while, it's always worth keeping your latest ones backed up.

Sent the FC to the nearest place I could actually get to HIP 22460, swapped ships to Moist von Lipwig, my AX enabled Krait II (in case of close encounters, natch). Made the jump to the system and got hyperdicted. Haven't had one of those for ages so it caught me off-guard with a mometary heart-in-mouth gulp.

Got scanned and I suppose the jellyfish missed those AX MC's I had tucked away. Jump 2 succeeded.

I am also now on Bright Sentinel and we shall see what we shall see.

Interestingly, I went into open (the horror! Gankers! But not in the bar, thankfully) expecting to see other CMDR's mooching around. There weren't.

So, I went up to the girl behind the jump and got me an Aristotle of the most ping-pong tiddly in the nuclear sub - a Pan Galactic Gargle-Blaster:

After a lucid moment during a particularly bad trip from the drink, I decided that this would be the best place to await the Proteus Wave. Y'know, just in case.

Just curious, are you playing in the open? You got hyperdicted by two Thargoids? I can make out two in that picture, you should have started blasting away and made them regret it. I wonder if salvations weapon will take out their ships while in witch space?
