Post Your Support for Elite Odyssey to have VR Support.

The game actually has VR support. I want the doomed pancake go away for sure too, being a 100% VR player, but in its recent iterations, Odyssey definitely is king and Horizons feels like a downgrade now. I can even use my old hardware (GTX1070, Rift CV1). Runs buttersmooth, but with better graphics 🚀

O7,
🙃
Do you use supersampling a lot? Your setup is more or less like mine (CV1, 1080, fairly recent Ryzen 7 CPU here), and I feel Horizons does run quite good on that setup, but not exceptional (I get noticeable drops now and then, especially in and around stations.) I do use a bit of supersampling though, to easily read HUD text.
I'm still holding off buying Odyssey, not for the lack of on-foot VR (I expect to play on foot only occasionally), but I'm afraid the framerate will drop beyond playable. Just can't decide if trading performance for the graphical upgrade is worth it ><.

I run it with HMD quality 1.25 for sharpness too, plus SMAA antialiasing nowadays (yes I know). No AMD upscaling. Might be Oculus runs in ASW mode in some places and Horizons is even smoother, but I wouldn't go back again. The worst thing with Odyseey is the shimmering antialiasing in some places. YMMV.

I really feel that Elite Dangerous, even more so now, with the new (Odyssey) terrain, just about requires rendering at least 30 pixels per degree, when game field of view is the same as viewed field of view (the way it is in VR, as opposed to viewing on a monitor, where 100° of rendered FOV is crammed into a 30-40-ish degree picture frame on your desk).

Below that, quality immediately begins to degrade severely; The LODs at work on those lower scales just makes things look like a badly balanced picture collage - a cluttered jumble of poorly matching low resolution elements, that blend badly along the seams, and alias like hell.

Rendering without plenty of supersampling (400% or more in SteamVR, which corresponds to x2.0 in-game (the former number factors area, and the latter factors width and height)) for my Valve Index (hardware ca.15pp centre of view), things just look terrible -- shimmery, unstable, unsubstantial, and blocky.

Too bad we do not have the hardware to get sufferable frame rates at this (imho) required resolution... :7

:D really? I've finally grabbed an Index after years of examining it closely then passing due to skittish fear of the price...

oh also ya I'd love to see more true VR integration, and I hope that all VR struggles prove worth it for these devs who are and will remain diehard champions of it, and f the standards makers and industry bats who see the world in terms of burning tires made of some backwater currency, uh lol

** oh, and to the broader thread sorry bigbang: kickstarter + partner this, duh. If magical money appears I'm pretty sure the full loadout of VR would be a no brainer. I'm not sure of how many millions or billions of dollars that might cost though 😂
A fiver and a Kickstarter account and I'll do it ! ;)

+1 for 3DOF helmet camera tied to mouse axis...... no need for motion controls. At least make it an in-game option and I promise i'll reinstall and start buying Arx again.

Like anything "Political" it's up to the group to hold the people in positions of individual power to task. At the end of the day a business as you know will cut costs and maximise profits,. Unless they are held to task and made to see that it is in the interests of profits to invest in a thing they will do NOTHING more. Braben doesn't care about VR unless it sticks a few million in his pockets in the shape of profits or share prices. Bottom line is the Community needs to hold him to task or vote with their feet. In life I have learnt over the last 56 years that people basically have turned into Greedy, Nasty and wilfully Ignorant individuals and have forgotten in the main the power of Community and the true power of ONE. Internet forums have channelled our power into a kind of black hole that swirls around and traps us. When people discover that the Internet although a great organizational tool is a very poor one when it comes to TAKING ACTION. and so untill we learn to FORM REAL RESPONSES IN THE REAL WORLD things will only get very much worse I am afraid. Good Luck with The VR thing, I myself have a Pimax 5k and £1200 worth of Graphics card bought almost exclusively for ED and also as a programmer know there's no good excuse for Braben and Co's shenanigans. It's HIS GAME RIGHT? He Crowd funded it and put ALL the hard work in, yes?
What do you mean by political?
Politics (from Greek: Πολιτικά, politiká, 'affairs of the cities') is the set of activities that are associated with making decisions in groups, or other forms of power relations among individuals, such as the distribution of resources or status.

So update 13 drop and not 1 single fix for VR.... not even a fix for using the shipyard.. which is basically move the camera far back when player is in the shipyard and using VR.
Man I think even base VR support is done.

Seriously, I'll pay a monthly £10 in return for:
Working Smooth VR in all modes - on Foot, in Menus!, In space in the ship after more than 3 jumps, on approach to planets, in SRVs, in Stations
Ship Interiors - All Ships
More ARX earning per week / an allowance of subscribers
Variety in Stations
Alien Races all over the Galaxy like there were in the beginning - Say 1 in 100 systems out in the black has some kind of weird alien station and a Universal translator for the ship.
Landing on Thick Atmosphere Planets (Like Frontier 1&2)

I'm at £2,500 spend on hardware for this already, and I haven't even got my new Graphics card yet

I think that's a legitimate request.
For fdev to proffer the idea of VR only cmdrs paying a subscription for the privilege. Thus ensuring future development & perhaps a dedicated fdev VR team whos wages/costs are covered by subs.
I'd pay.
I'm pretty sure not everyone agrees but it's a solution to the " we don't have the time or resources" argument.

Heh, a few day ago, for a few seconds I thought: "Hey, they fixed X, and Y, and brought back the diegetic HoloMe, instead of that horrible blue screen!", until I realised I had set Horizons to update earlier in the day, and now accidently had started that instead of Odyssey (...and then accidently ended up in HoloMe, due to the UI open-on-look option resetting...). :p
