So some of the community had a meltdown over the lack of "walking around ships" when odyssey came out - I don't know exactly how they hoped that was in there, but there you have it.
Shortly after Odyssey was released there came this question of engineering and material gathering.
“Our three focuses before the year ends are launching the next phase of the narrative, stability and optimisation. We’ll release three more updates to support these. Within the narrative, human space balances on the precipice as tension mounts within the bubble. The Azimuth Saga will conclude in a grand finale event, the consequences of which will mark the beginning of the next stage of the Elite story in Update 14. Meanwhile, updates 12 and 13 will largely focus on quality-of-life changes, stability and optimisation. Work has also begun on a major feature overhaul for 2023 that we’ll discuss later in the year. Please note that the details and timings of each release are subject to change and that any adjustments will be shared ahead of time. Beyond this we are also discussing additional game content, and we’ll reveal it once confirmed.”
So update 14 puts horizons and odyssey on the same codebase/engine build, meaning even "horizons players" could "walk around" if they wanted to - maybe in their own ships?
if that major feature was to be added to the game.
As I've always stated in the past I think that "ship-legs" - a free expansion to both games "horizons and odyssey", would bridge the two games together - although I never had the vernacular at the time.
That would be an enormous undertaking and would mean the odyssey code would have to perform from planetary surface, walking into the ship, sitting down, and flying to station and walking back out again. Highly unlikely they could just knock that out of the gate directly after Odyssey's release?
So mundanely, the major feature that is probably coming is the engineering and materials, which gameplay, game-mechanics, the beat-to-beat nature of the game, the UI would have to be updated across the board for both Horizons and Odyssey (handy if they shared the same build of the engine - wink wink, nudge nudge)
But you know what feature I would like to see.
Walking around the "rings" of a ringed station.
Walking around the gardens in the docking areas of the Tourist stations.
There are outposts with viewing Galleries with ships in them - I had always hoped to have pottered around them.
The biodome parks.
