I thought that they had enabled VR Carrier view from any direction until I realised I wasn't even in VR.Heh, a few day ago, for a few seconds I thought: "Hey, they fixed X, and Y, and brought back the diegetic HoloMe, instead of that horrible blue screen!", until I realised I had set Horizons to update earlier in the day, and now accidently had started that instead of Odyssey (...and then accidently ended up in HoloMe, due to the UI open-on-look option resetting...).![]()
On foot VR sickness doesn't seem to be a thing as I have played a few on foot FPS like games w/o ever getting any VR sickness. I am very sensitive to VR sickness in the wrong situations too. I think the problem was with the rushed Odyseey release, the grey border I'm pretty sure was just to cut down on the rendering. With more time and optimization I see absolutely no reason why they cant now get rid of the grey border. To prove this assertion, the game works fine rendering/FPS wise in Free Camera on foot. I think they should at least make it optional now. I am prepared to wait personally, until they get it together maybe along with their merging of the 4.0 Odyssey/Horizon unification. I think maybe their headache is as you hinted at; whether to lock the viewpoint at the on foot characters head(all puns intended) or maybe lock the view point at 3rd person. Fingers crossed(with or without a VR glove) they'll find all the solution's needed.I do wonder if Frontier truly have a genuine discussion scheduled for on-foot VR support down the line. As far as I know, they haven't explicitly ruled it out publicly.
I think most VR players would appreciate a real interim solution where the VR camera is simply locked to player head position, as opposed to the 2D projector screen that breaks all immersion (imo). Some people of course may not engage with that, as with only smooth motion it can cause VR sickness. I do wonder though if a VR HUD can't be designed to mimic the way the ship's cockpit helps prevent VR sickness.
In any case, I do hope we hear some news about it soon, even if it's to say they've decided against supporting VR on-foot.
FDEV is not listening. I have not touched EDO for about 8 mos. now. There are other sims to play - esp. now that FDEV has abandoned VR.Hi,
As a measure of how many CMDRs woudl like to see VR Support in Elite Odyssey please post a +1, Yes or other positive affirmation here.
An easy way to gauge the community sentiment.
Yes, we don't know yea or nea, but at least we can start to gather some metrics and numbers.
I for one would love to see VR Support.
Thanks
Pete
Without motion controller support it's pointless IMO.
Well, if an answer is mandatory: I couldn't care less -- it is the very, very, very least of my problems with the situation, but that also means I would have no reason to protest the change. :7What do you think?
Sure, that would be cool, but I'm more looking for a ''realistic'' improvement.Well, if an answer is mandatory: I couldn't care less -- it is the very, very, very least of my problems with the situation, but that also means I would have no reason to protest the change. :7
EDIT: Giving it another second of thought: I'd speculate that if (very relative) immersion is the pain point, the best solution might not be changing from solid grey to solid black, but making it dynamic, so that it matches the current light -level and -tone in the scene, kind of like you see on some large wall mounted television sets, which have wall-illuminating LEDs along the back edges of them.
Well, no more than the obvious gripe that there is aSure, that would be cool, but I'm more looking for a ''realistic'' improvement.
Sorry to ask, because I'm late to the party, but can you share to me what is your concerns?

Yeh methinks the olde leadership were more interested in getting the DEVS to ride dinosaurs around The Jurassic Epoch. Which says it all really!Pointless to keep it going without VR support, that was the main draw.
I know all about that, but since nothing is moving forward, but backward with VR, I was wondering if ''at least'' they could give use the option to have black background.Hey listen, "There is no need for a Grey Border with current Gen mid and top range cards by AMD and Nvidia ON FOOT". THAT'S IT! Go into external camera, it renders perfectly in VR. Not just that but I have a Pimax 5k and it renders in perfect in normal mode which basically needs the same degree and level of rendering as other VR headesets, if not more. I also have a AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor and 6800XT. My system is already out of date and yet renders perfectly in external full screen VR on foot. THERE IS NO GOOD EXCUSE FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO RENDER THE SCENE with many pc systems.. People have been crying out for it for a while now. AND yes they wont even make the border optional OR BLACK. I dont get it. Yes NMS, the new MSFSX are now becoming my goto to games as I have been feeling for a while now that some 1 over at Frontier holds us lot in contempt and is just digging their feet in for the sake of being OBTUSE over VR, We shall see. Maybe with the the new leadership at Frontier we shall see some changes. Not holding my breath though. I'll support anything of an improvement in this direction. C'mon Frontier PLEASE SORT IT OUT, getting a bit ridiculous now this Grey Border.
