I am once again pleading with people to use EDMC

how did the poeple play elite in 1984 without inara or edmc other tools, ???
How did people light their homes without electricity?

There are two conflicting approaches when planning for the future:
1. I went through it so everyone else should have to.
2. I went through it and now I'm glad no one else has to.

Definitely the OP owner is right. Most people do not trust 3rd party tools, but all 3rd party tools in this game are made by people who really love the game and do not harm your computer or game account in any way.

I also use it myself. All you have to do is open the program that the OP owner mentioned when you enter the game. It is a small program that runs in the background.

I do use the eddb and inara websites, but do not have any of the tools loaded on my elite install currently. I really should change that. However I too do wonder if some of the nice price/supply items I have found myself would be wiped out within hours by the hordes of FC owners out there. But it is what it is, and since I use those sites I really should give something back to those tools.

Since I've gone 4 and a half years without plugins of any kind.

Or if people ran EDMC/EDD there wouldn't be a need for that filter since the stations would get updated as people play the game
This assumes that every station in every system (and fleet carrier, based on your complaint) is visited every hour by a PC CMDR. That's an "optimistic" view, is it not? I bet Jameson Memorial's markets are never out-of-date on EDDB. Liouville Base in HIP 53923, on the other hand...

Thanks for the info. So I don't need to sign up for an account on Inara or EDDN? Just download, run and it'll freely share?

You'll need to sign up to INARA (for example) to take full advantage of EDMC.
As long as you're running EDMC you'll be supplying data but if it's linked to an INARA account then INARA can do stuff like keep track of what mat's you've got, tell you whether or not you've got enough mat's to complete mod's and keep track of where you are in-game so you can use it to find commodities, modules or contacts etc.

Main thing, though, is after you install EDMC you'll get a FDev browser window popping up, asking you if you want to give EDMC permission to access your account.
You'll need to confirm this so EDMC has access to your account.

If you create an INARA account (or any other similar website), it'll give you a big, long, API number which needs to be copied/pasted into EDMC.
Click file > settings and then add the data to the appropriate page; EDSM, Coriolis, INARA etc.

EDDiscovery
I tried that program. It's crap. That's why I uninstalled it and use Elite Observatory. I don't know if that updates either site. If INARA made a program for it, I'd use it. But EDDM doesn't strike me as something I want to use after my experience with that Discovery program.

My point is that we should all help each other out rather than taking the attitude of "I did it the hard way so everyone else should have to".
You're the one telling everyone else what they should do by demanding we all install extra software on our computers so that you can have your easy mode cheat tools, LOL. Next you'll be demanding we all install bitcoin miners on our computer because life is hard and you need money.

(Yes I'm taking this to extreme with purposeful sarcasm to make a point, so don't take me too seriously, but still, there is a point being made)

Slowly.

And with a ring-binder filled with pages of hand-written info.
Now those were the days!

I agree. I find the 3rd party tools really helpful and a vast enhancement to the in-game info. I find edmc, eddi and eddiscovery indispensable for my playstyle.

I use Elite Observatory when I'm out exploring, but EDDiscovery is far from crap. Maybe it doesn't suit your playstyle, but it was the first (as far as I know) utility that showed exploration scan data, which made a healthy contribution to my bank balance. It also supports multi-account setups out of the box, without requiring /runas commands, which is a godsent for me. I'd like the journal filtering to use a filter as you type function but otherwise, I have no problem with the program.

but EDDiscovery is far from crap
Not to me. You like it, that's fine. I'm not going to run it just so their database is updated. It's simply not worth it. As I mentioned, if there was something else made by someone else like INARA I could run that would do the job, I'd try running it.
