Horizons and Base Game 4.0 first impressions

And some people did pay for 2.0 or 2.1 (i payed for 3.2 version 😂 - why i cannot acces it anymore?)

Now they cannot play it anymore. 🤷‍♂️
There are no servers. There are servers for 4.0 Horizons ... c'mon - stop trolling - you even said you hoped you get access.

Yea, but the argument seems to be: but i payed for it.

Yes and did those who have Odyssey not pay for Horizons? They did. And everyone who payed for Horizons has access to its latest version which seems to be Ody Lite atm under the name of Hor 4.0, there's no problem with that. It's just that Ody owners can only launch Hor 4.0 a tad more inconveniently than other game versions.

I personally don't think it's really worth that much complaining, but the separate launcher option would have been a more elegant way to do it, I give them that.

The real problem is that it wouldn't solve the issue itself, namely the Ody-Hor instancing split we've been cursed with for more than a year now.

Precisely, with the mention that their current version of Horizons appears to be 3.8 (at least for now) and you can play that.
I'm sorry, but on this planet number progress > so 4.0 is greater than 3.8, so the 'current' version of Horizons is 4.0 - I know this is a fact because I have two accounts that don't have Odyssey, they are both able to run the 'current' version of Horizons, which is 4.0.

With any 'live' service game it's normally impossible to run an old version, I don't expect to be able to run an old version, I expect to be able to run the 'current' version.

The fact that Fdev have to keep 3.8 alive for console is beside the point.

but 3.2 was the last version that had ads, and i payed for it. 😇

Now leaving the jokes behind: no, i said i would not mind if i get access... my hopes are in different areas (panther clipper? moray starboat? any new imperial ship? or even dolphin mk2 with a better cockpit view)

We have the right to run whatever Frontier is allowing us to run through their launcher, based on the option the launcher retrieves from our Frontier accounts

Now if you want to prove that you can run horizons 4.0, you can... but to me it looks as smart as the dude that stuck a beluga in the mail slot at Jameson to prove you can cheat in Elite
I'm sure some people in upper management love your corporate-friendly attitude, but I'm not a beggar, I'm a customer. I pre-ordered Odyssey on May 13th, 2021, based on what Frontier's @Bruce G communicated one day earlier:
After 19 May, if you as an Odyssey owner launch the Horizons version of the game, you (and everyone else playing Horizons) will see the original, pre-upgrade, version of planetary tech. Once Odyssey has launched on console, the Horizons version of the game will receive the graphical updates on all platforms, so it will look the same for everyone.

Between PC launch and console launch, you will not be able to instance with Horizons players if you are playing Odyssey. After console launch, you will be able to. Albeit, Horizons players will be limited to SRV travel on planet surfaces.
The fact that the console release was canceled is irrelevant, because the advertised product is now available on PC, and there is no reason to deny it to those who paid for it. In fact we should further demand that shared instances between EDH4 and EDO players be enabled as promised. It is obvious that Frontier is using the PEGI rating issue merely as a distraction, because in space, EDH4 and EDO look exactly the same.

I dont find it irrelevant at all. I started on XB, I prefer to play on XB.
But it's not anything i can do about it.
And since i still love ED, i have to chose between going along or playing something else.
Given the fact that i pre-ordered 2x EDO last year in april/may and i got EDO for my recently migrated account should say something about me liking Elite.

What is irrelevant to me is cross instancing between versions.
And i personally dont want to downgrade my experience to instance with someone else that is not able to play Odyssey.
It's their problem, not mine

So this issue with my friend that doesnt like Odyssey and will never buy it, but he plays horizons 4.0  - this does not affect me.

Here's the difference: Console players did not pre-order Odyssey, so they didn't lose anything when the console release was canceled. Otherwise you can bet they would have demanded a refund.

PC players did pre-order Odyssey. Frontier gladly took the money and then altered the deal. Apparently you're willing to accept whatever bone they throw you, but I'm not like that. And frankly, I don't even see why you are arguing here on Frontier's behalf.

Come on.
If you have Odyssey, that's the current version.
If you dont, 3.8 is the current version - at least according to FDev statements from last week 🤷‍♂️ (which may change starting from tomorrow)

That's just factually false. Odyssey is not the current version of Horizons, it's an optional DLC.

Horizons 3.8 could be the current version of Horizons, but it's not, since fdev decided to call the non-foot version of Odyssey Horizons 4.0 instead of Odyssey Lite (which it actually is - well, not quite, since it's not the least bit lighter, but that's another question).

The new "Horizons" isnt a Odyssey lite more of a "Fiasco" so it could be called "Horizons fiasco" ;)

After all its not going to get people to play it if you go from 60fps with VR with 15-30fps and no vr 🤔. Its got to be like for like and at present odyssey doesnt feel as complete as Horizons was

And i do wonder why they still call it Horizons instead of Odyssey light or whatever.

People that play Horizons (3.8) have a certain level of expectations
Getting Odyssey - at least it was a clear difference - other name, other client, other planets, other skybox
But Horizons 4.0 is a bit misleading since is a totally revamped client and experience

Im sorry but you are deluding yourself if you think the current version Horizons is 3.8 - everyone knows the current code base 4.0 and if you don't own Odyssey(lucky you) then your current version of Horizons is 4.0

I don't like Horizons 4.0. I'm one of those who purchased Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous: Horizons BEFORE they could be downloaded through Steam. The graphics may be better with Horizons 4.0, but my PC is a bit of dinosaur now and if I try to run it on the highest settings the game is a bit "jerky", if you know what I mean. To get the smoothness of graphics back to anything like they are in 3.8 I have to run the game on medium graphics settings, so it defeats the object. I can run 3.8 on the ultra graphics settings and everything's smooth. I've also noticed that with 4.0 the colours of my HUD are different, i.e. slightly off and a bit drab. I've tried adjusting them in the graphics configuration override, but I can't get them looking like they do in 3.8. I don't like the interface in 4.0. It's overly complicated and I seem to have to perform more key presses than in 3.8. I suppose it's down to practising how to find my way about the 4.0 interface, but I can't be bothered and so I stick to playing the 3.8 version. I don't own Odyssey because from what I've read there's no end game. So I'm sticking with 3.8 for now. I might change my mind if I upgrade or replace my PC, but for now I wouldn't recommend anyone installing 4.0 on an older PC, it's just not worth it in my humble and honest opinion.
