Newcomer / Intro Datamined Wake Exceptions

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how to get the DWEs please?

I've scanned numerous wakes but none have ever appeared.

I accept that it would be difficult. but not impossible!!

It's random, and they are rather rare. Scan more wakes, and you'll eventually get some.

Or do the log-off log-on dance at Jameson's crash site and trade down for what you need.

This is decent site for figuring out how to get most materials, for future reference. It has links to video guides as well.

Scan wakes when leaving busy stations, The station for the latest CG could well be worth a try, go there in solo would be safest.

If flying empty submit to interdictions, let them scan you and when they fly away in disgust scan their wake.

I use a C rated scanner with long range which gives a scanning range of 6.6Km for only a small power increase.

It is very random for most of us though one recent poster seems to be doomed to never find them.

If all else fails max out your storage for all the other wake stuff and encoded data then visit an encode materials trader and swap. Admittedly it takes a lot of low grade stuff to trade but the low grade bins usually fill up fast and it is so frustrating getting storage full messages.

The easiest way is to visit Jameson crash site, and then go to a material trader. Otherwise, look for high population systems in famine, distribution centers.

I've built a fast Iagle just for wake scanning at busy stations. The wakes can be up to 14km away and don't last very long, too short for a slower ship and many wakes.

This is why Distribution Centres are (were?) preferred location to farm wakes, the departing ships have no mass-lock to exit, just the MLF distance of the T9s.
I always engineer for long range and just sit at the centre in an Eagle, just rotating to point at the wakes.

Plus Distribution Centres get more wakes than starports as you get fresh ships constantly, stations are more random.

The frame shift wake scanner can be engineered to give 50-100% extra range. Makes a difference. I find I have to move very little.

I am currently in the Ra system outside Laconte Dock, which is in famine. Gathering

Datamined Wake Exceptions

for no good reason.

I just hang out at a busy navigation beacon (compromised ones seem better somehow, make sure you have no cargo) and use my fast eagle to zip between wakes, scanning each one. Doesn't take long to get a decent haul of DWEs.

Filled up with DWEs at the Ra system. Started with about 20, so added about 80 plus lots of other stuff.

The longer range scanner really helps. 7.6km is better than 4km.

I have found that some instances seem to drop DWE more than others. So if you're not getting anything, relog or move. And don't forget to trade up, once you've filled all those lower bins you might as well take advantage of them, you're just going to fill them up again if you keep scanning for DWE.

I'm still looking, I've found only one!!
Any time I need some I went go Mackenzie Relay in Cemiess and just scan all incoming and outgoing ships. There are three or four you get all the time at Mackenzie so scan and collect all and then when most are full and you still need Data Mined Wake Exceptions go to a trader and trade what you have for what you need.

Alas, I'm unable to visit the Jameson crash site as I suffer from motion sickness :(
A fair portion of the game is closed to me but I got it free on Epic.
I've recently purchased a second hand Saitek X56. It's seen better days but it works!

Thanks to all for the advice.

247 grade 1 materals from wake scanning and literally nothing else while in Colonua scanning wakes at Jacques station as I did passenger missions in a fast Orca.
I will no longer have wake scanners on my ships. I have collected exactly 1 DWE in the wild with a wake scanner ever. There are lots of ways to get grade 4 and 5 encoded materials without resorting to relogging at Janesons crash Cobra, although it is still the fastest way.
Trade other encoded mats for DWEs or be lucky like some others who mystically have success with a wake scanner.

1. Motion sickness need not bar you from Jameson's Cobra - you just drive a short way from your ship to a point within the wreckage that is midway between the 4 comm link thingies, stick on the handbrake, enter turret mode, scan each comm thing, then relog, repeat the scans, etc, etc... When you are full with 100 AEC and 150 AEA, drive the short distance to your ship and go trade.

2. Don't do it in open play.

3. Seriously, a Distribution Centre is hands-down the best way to farm DWE - I just went out this arvo to check and it was very productive.

4. If you can't drive about much in a SRV because of motion sickness then you might want to use Jameson's Cobra to get data to trade into MEF as the only sure way I know to get MEF is to drive around certain types of installations scanning the periscope data points. (I have always used lots of MEF in engineers.)

Modified Embedded Firmware is a very common mission reward for Robigo Mines passenger runs provided you are allied with the factions. I can fill my stocks of Exquisite Focus Crystals, Biotech Conductors and Modified Embedded Firmware in around 10 to 12 loops at Robigo.
