Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

After being harassed by some orange Sidewinders this morning, I'm gonna go out there to check if they damaged my FSD in any form...
Reporting back... FSD is unscathed, works just as intended. And as I have my route planner switched to fastest route instead of most efficient, I finally can make some distance if needed. Greetings from Tod McQuinn. 😁

Totally forgot: I had a toasty moment on that tour, right before the last jump...

I also like P-15 in conjunction with punching them in the face on covert missions.

And I came to prefer a TK Zenith at combat zones currently, to conveniently and quickly whisk away small remants of shields or health, at opportune moments, without another blast from the long guns

Anyway I haven't tried 'em all; but. those two are my most frequent hand guns

Wait ..that looks just like the trail I leave when I smack into a star, you copycat! :)

Water World haven today, I think I found12 today also another little moon with a really blue sky.

I found some really cool plants, bioluminescent, the veins on the trunk were pulsating with a bioluminescent fluid. I didn't take the time to locate one on the dark side, I'm sure it would have been a sight to see.

One of the other plants on this Argon atmosphere moon, looks to be a slightly different color than the usual.

We were talking about Viper MKIIIs a bit ago, and CMDRQuainMarln told me that I should swap out the Drag Drives experimental I had on mine, for the Drive Distributors one instead.

I didn't realize how much extra speed that would give me on this particular build.

So today I finally got around to swapping the experimentals. Mel Brandon was happy to do it for me, since I unlocked his access some time ago. I don't even remember doing it :)

Anyway, here's my build, traveling at a blistering 710m/s cruising speed, and boosting to 887. I could squeeze another m/s or two out of it by downsizing the FSD, but then it would be too hard to go anywhere in it. It only jumps 19LY as it is!

So this is officially my fastest ship, normal space wise. I plan to crash into stuff with it, by accident.

Thanks @CMDRQuainMarln for the suggestion, it worked out very well.

Woow, you get me itched to buy back the Viper MkIII .... how is the agility comparing to Vulture with Drag Drives???

Edit: Nah... no way to compare with my Vulture.

I've got to get me one of those. It's on my list of ships I still need to get along with the FDL.

It's always the Vulture that gives me the most trouble when I'm out bounty hunting. It's just so damn quick.
The Vulture isn’t a ship I was comfortable with mainly due to the low number of weapons and at the time the lack of available power*, engineering can fix the latter but won’t help with the former.

Actually the Vulture isn’t all that fast but it is extremely agile, which helps make it hard to hit.

*Yes it is years since I flew one.

Hehe. No, it's not for combat, not with that build. It's just about speed. If you put weapons (or anything at all) on it, it'll immediately go much slower. Gotta keep the weight down for speed reasons.

Fun, tho.

Honestly...

ITo change things up a little, was on a reccy for a nice tritium hotspot, when I got sidetracked.

Firstly, there was a planet with diverse life, of course, I had to down and see. Nothing too exciting and I certainly didn't try for all 8 but this one did catch my eye - a fungoida that actually vaguely resembled a mushroom:

I took off and carried on, then beheld this beauty:

Say hello to my little friend...

The latest addition to my arsenal. I have the Karma C-44, the TK Zenith and the Karma P-15 to go. I might do the C-44 but I can't see the value of the two pistols, in particular applying upgrades... the only pistol that seems worth the upgrading is/was the Tormentor - I could well be wrong.

Anyone actually use the P-15 or Zenith?
Aye Zenith is very nice, i like it. With my very simplistic approach all hand weapons are basically little versions Aphelion / AR-50 / Executioner, and the most true it's for Zenith. Aphelion is too nice not to have it equipped, but in case you still don't, you can have Zenith then. Good range, good damage and quite slow at eating ammo. I think also that 3 weapons are kind of too much for me at CZs, i tend to mostly use two, and at a point when i'm out of ammo for Aphelion and C-44 (or whatever i'm using), Zenith is still ok. Why to run for ammo if you can kill em with Zenith, so saves from some running too. And that all for an unmodded G4, guess it shines even more with mods. That being said i like more lasers and kinetics, while a bit underrating plasmas, due to me overusing em in the beginning maybe.

Well, so far, I have G5'd and modded all 4 slots on the following:

  • TK Aphelion
  • TK Eclipse
  • Manticore Tormentor
  • Karma AR-50
  • Manticore Oppressor
  • Karma L-6
  • Manticore Executioner
  • Manticore Intimidator

Should be OK for a while :D

I've just finished a quick 40 minutes of mining in a tritium hotspot. I got 35 tons :( But I also got 16 tons of alexandrite :) The spot I've found is quite close to the Colonia bubble so pirate evasion is called for. At the very least, I could sell what I mine. But, really, I just need to refuel and I'm in no hurry so it'll be a nice pace change when needed

I can also use this place as a base for exploration/exobiology so, really, I have all the bases covered.

Honey! I'm home!

I've since realised the best choice between Drive Distributors and Drag Drives is highly dependent on the mass of the specific build of the ship. So it does not always follow that an iCourier is best with drag or drive distributors. You need to check both options in Coriolis for the exact build to work it out.

I know the location of an untouched Tritium 2 hotspot (2 spots nearly on top of each other), if you are interested. I won't post it here cuz it's my secret, but it's about 1 carrier jump from Colonia. I have not been back to try it out since Odyssey, but I verified that it's still there.

Meanwhile, I was goofing around checking out some settlements in the Tenjin system, just to see the layouts and maybe identify a good place to download some data like culinary recipes.

I landed at the first place, no worries, got scanned, everything normal.

Went to the second place, disembarked as usual, got scanned, and the shooting started! My ship had decided to load a couple of eBreaches into my backpack for no apparent reason. I was not on a mission. The HUD icon that says "you have illegal stuffs" was On, as it should be, but I wasn't paying attention because...why would I have illegal stuff?

This annoyed me so I tested it a few times. My ship added eBreaches to my backpack...sometimes. But not all the time.

So now I gotta remember to check for that. I guess it's a bug.

The settlements I visited were on a pretty planet.

While I was walking around in one of the settlements I chanced upon an NPC who wanted me to take a delivery to another settlement. Threat 0. Sounded a little boring, but I haven't done any of these missions that you get direct from an NPC in a settlement, so I took the mission.

The item magically appeared in my backpack and I flew around to the other side of the planet to the target settlement. It took me a while to find the person I needed. There were multiple NPCs with icons, and none were the right person. Eventually I located them inside a public bar area. Gave them the stuff. Now I had to go back and tell the mission giver it was done, and get my paltry reward.

It was fun, but I wanted a bit more excitement. I found another NPC with a delivery, but this time it was "Contraband." Might be a tougher assignment, I figured, so I took it. Got the item immediately, and my HUD lit up with the "illegal stuffs" icon. I had to dodge the guards on the way back to my ship. That's more like it!

I got to the target settlement, and my ship added eBreaches to my backpack again. This time I was watching, and I put them back. The "Contraband" item I was delivering was oddly not illegal at this settlement, so I just waltzed in and handed it over. Got paid. So, only slightly more exciting than the first one after all.

I like doing these missions. I like flying to settlements and walking around in them. It makes me feel like I'm really there, somehow. Anyway, it's great.

I do think they should pay a bit better, though, because they take quite a while to complete.

That's a list, i only have a couple of G4s and rest store G3s. And mods wise i simply haven't yet decided what i want even. I was always more focusing on suits and making weapons only case by case when i had mats remaining (like suits you need em all the time and weapons only when you shot, which is not always).

I wouldn't mine Trit anywhere close to inhabited space due to a simple fact that if you have a carrier, you will likely explore with your carrier once, and if so, you will at some point have to mine Trit somewhere in the wilderness, but until then, purchase is the way. Even gathering sparse Colonia supplies could be faster than mining (ok, i'm not sure, i'm not sure i even mined Trit in fact, but Gal Avg for Trit is 50k, how to mine it). If you got not enough, i'd mine whatever else is around and then either put a purchase order on your carrier and hope that someone hauls at some point, either contribute to enrichment of one of those guys hauling Trit to Colonia on their carriers. Also Colonia Bridge carriers, but they're too famous i guess, stocks gone too fast...

Yeah, indeed it was a nice advice and since then i've applied Drive Distributors to a couple of my lighter ships. I don't have anything with a plain go fast meaning, but that doesn't change the fact that additional speed is always one of the best upgrades.
