Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Day 1 of the Planetary nebula NGC 6842 region exploration and core mining tour
Forget the biologicals, I'm searching for Codger's Rock. Nope, none hear.

Day 1 of the Planetary nebula NGC 6842 region exploration and core mining tour
Same here. Having a decent day so far - couple of water worlds, a few high metal worlds and some biologics.

I have never stopped to check out any geologic signals before, but this is odd:

Every single one of those except C4 has three geological signals on them. All right there in one spot. I'm going to check those out and see if one of them just might be the all elusive Selenium hot spot.

Honestly...

ITo change things up a little, was on a reccy for a nice tritium hotspot, when I got sidetracked.

Firstly, there was a planet with diverse life, of course, I had to down and see. Nothing too exciting and I certainly didn't try for all 8 but this one did catch my eye - a fungoida that actually vaguely resembled a mushroom:

I took off and carried on, then beheld this beauty:

That first pic looks like asparagus. Did you have a nice vinegrette and a poach egg in your backpack?

I know the location of an untouched Tritium 2 hotspot (2 spots nearly on top of each other), if you are interested. I won't post it here cuz it's my secret, but it's about 1 carrier jump from Colonia. I have not been back to try it out since Odyssey, but I verified that it's still there.

Meanwhile, I was goofing around checking out some settlements in the Tenjin system, just to see the layouts and maybe identify a good place to download some data like culinary recipes.

I landed at the first place, no worries, got scanned, everything normal.

Went to the second place, disembarked as usual, got scanned, and the shooting started! My ship had decided to load a couple of eBreaches into my backpack for no apparent reason. I was not on a mission. The HUD icon that says "you have illegal stuffs" was On, as it should be, but I wasn't paying attention because...why would I have illegal stuff?

This annoyed me so I tested it a few times. My ship added eBreaches to my backpack...sometimes. But not all the time.

So now I gotta remember to check for that. I guess it's a bug.

The settlements I visited were on a pretty planet.

While I was walking around in one of the settlements I chanced upon an NPC who wanted me to take a delivery to another settlement. Threat 0. Sounded a little boring, but I haven't done any of these missions that you get direct from an NPC in a settlement, so I took the mission.

The item magically appeared in my backpack and I flew around to the other side of the planet to the target settlement. It took me a while to find the person I needed. There were multiple NPCs with icons, and none were the right person. Eventually I located them inside a public bar area. Gave them the stuff. Now I had to go back and tell the mission giver it was done, and get my paltry reward.

It was fun, but I wanted a bit more excitement. I found another NPC with a delivery, but this time it was "Contraband." Might be a tougher assignment, I figured, so I took it. Got the item immediately, and my HUD lit up with the "illegal stuffs" icon. I had to dodge the guards on the way back to my ship. That's more like it!

I got to the target settlement, and my ship added eBreaches to my backpack again. This time I was watching, and I put them back. The "Contraband" item I was delivering was oddly not illegal at this settlement, so I just waltzed in and handed it over. Got paid. So, only slightly more exciting than the first one after all.

I like doing these missions. I like flying to settlements and walking around in them. It makes me feel like I'm really there, somehow. Anyway, it's great.

I do think they should pay a bit better, though, because they take quite a while to complete.
Thanks for the offer! I'd certainly like to try it out if you'll share the location but... I didn't think overlapping hotspots were a thing anymore. Are they?.It'd be interesting to see if they yield more than a single spot though...

(y)

Oh, and I have some spare culinary recipes now but I don't have a bar on my carrier. Do you? If so, if I sold them there, would you get them? I'm not sure if it works that way...

I don't think they are either. I've tried them multiple times and I've not seen one bit of difference between that and just a normal, all by it's lonesome hotspot.
The Parrots Head triple platinum hotspot collection rate is about 30% faster than any single hotspot I've been to - for me. I'm not a whiz at laser mining Only viable if you can sell to a carrier though. 980ly outside the bubble.

I'll message you.

Most overlaps don't matter much any more, because the effect was reduced for "balance" or some such. But a really tight overlap should still produce a bit better than a lone hotspot.

Like I say, I have not had the chance to test this out. I dropped by to see if it was still there, and kept the bookmark because it was.

Feel free to check it out and report your findings. I'm curious about it myself, I just haven't had time to go yet.

Well, I guess the answer is "YES".

EDIT: Spoke too soon. The first five were Selenium then it started to be other materials.
If you take long enough harvesting all the other geysers and fumaroles when you get back to the ones that had Selenium new crystals will have formed so you can get a second batch. Occasionally that will work 3 times sometimes it doesn’t work at all, of course when you log in again tomorrow you can do it again, or you can fly off and find another lot on the same planet.

The only time finding other stuff is a problem is when your bins are full.
