Retreat: BGS guide best current thinking

So does the check for a retreat happen after the influence is calculated? That is, if a faction is above 2.5% on the 5th tick but comes under significant assault, can they be forced out of the system?

no, that check happens pre-influence calculation. but with the influence penalty applying first ...

i'm actually not sure whether the check happens before or after the influence penalty for active expansion is deducted. never had a case where that would have played a role one way or the other.

So you don't know whether it applies before the retreat check and the fate of a system hinges on it. Bit of a tense wait then...

exactly.

if your faction is >4.5% there is chance of the state influence penalty being deducted before the tick ... i think it doesn't for mechanical reasons, but i actually don't even have an exampel from expansions ... so please report your outcome 👍

Retreat lasts 6 days once is active. Whatever influence the faction is at after the influence tick on the 6th day is what decides if the Retreat fails or happens the following tick. So if that faction is at 2.6% on the 6th day then no matter what you do that faction will not Retreat the following day.

nope.

retreat works with the influence at the 6th tick pre 6th tick influence calculation = influence after 5th tick influence calculation (eventually with influence malus of active retreat taking into account).

that's the case since states and state effects are processed before influence.

same as expansion going pending from a system over 75% the tick before.

edit: going pending, not active.

That is literally what I just said dude lol. 6th day of Retreat is the 5th tick of active Retreat. 6th tick ends the Retreat. So what I said 6th day of Retreat's influence is what decides the outcome is BGS law. Retreat's influence drain DOES NOT apply on the final 6th tick. The 6th tick just checks what the current influence is from the previous day and either yeets the faction or takes the Retreat state off. My PMF Retreated and prevented many retreats already so I know the mechanics.

This is not entirely true. Yes influence effects from states are processed on the state tick which could potentially cause other states to trigger. Yes economy & security bar drains are shown on the state tick. Now influence tick influence changes can cause states to pend like conflict states. Also the economy & security bar states aren't determined until the influence tick actions are added to them which can cause states to pend or decide if they end next tick.

What? This is false. Once a faction goes over 75% they PEND expansion the following tick then go active 4 days after. Which is essentially 5 days pending.

yeah ... probably in detail it looks like that:
1. tick A: pending states go active, cooldown end, conflicts end, expansion goes pending etc. (i refer to it as state tick)
2. tick B: influence effects of states are applied (i'm unsure whether A and B are separated... or if B happens pre A)
3. tick C influence calculation happens
4. tick D new states go pending from influence calculation (conflicts) (i have never seen C+D seperately, but i also have not seen states going pending and are revoked after influence calculation)

at least that's my believed structure since "states are resolved first"/FC update.

with the hours between first and last "tick"-changes seen we probably should stop calling it tick, but name it wave or roll-out ...

Another question - does the limit on Retreats when there's only 3 or less factions in the system still work in the same way as in the OP?

We've had a minor faction retreat out of a system, but we can't seem to figure out why.
In the crucial ticks the faction was above the 2.5% threshold, yet after Tick 6 are gone.
They were in civil unrest and famine, would these have had an effect?
