Exploration progress (rank) does not match with Codex Statistics

I'm not sure what you mean. All of the Elite+ ranks started with Odyssey. It was not possible to make progress toward them before they existed, and past accomplishments don't count. You start at zero for all Elite+ ranks when you start playing Odyssey. They have to be earned in Odyssey (and maybe Horizons 4.0, I have not checked there).
Well, I don't see me having racked up enough trade credit to get to EliteV playing Odyssey cos 1) I was out of the game for a lot of it; 2) I tended to just play Horizons when I did play 'cos of performance and 3) I have a couple of accounts and the one that is EliteV I didn't think got most use.

However, I did grind out for a F C but that was in Horizons I am sure.

I did. It's wrong. It can't work that way. Basic math prevents it.
I'm sorry, but basic math does not prevent it. It all depends on what the figures in the table actually represent

There are 2 ways:

1. The figure is the TOTAL amount needed to reach that Rank (which is what the column header says that it is)

Rank TOTAL EXTRA
Aimless...............................0........................................0
Mostly Aimless...........40,000...............................40,000
Scout........................270,000.............................230,000
Surveyor................1,140,000.............................870,000
Trailblazer.............4,200,000...........................3,060,000
Pathfinder...........10,000,000...........................5,800,000
Ranger...............35,000,000..........................25,000,000

or
2. The figure is the EXTRA amount needed on top of what was needed for the previous rank (which is what you are saying that it is)

Rank TOTAL EXTRA
Aimless..............................0........................................0
Mostly Aimless..........40,000...............................40,000
Scout.......................310,000............................270,000
Surveyor...............1,450,000.........................1,140,000
Trailblazer.............5,650,000.........................4,200,000
Pathfinder...........15,650,000.......................10,000,000
Ranger................50,650,000.......................35,000,000

So you can easily get the percentage up from the previous rank in either case.

Looking at my alt I can see that I am 97% through Pathfinder with 33 million and change in Exploration credits, which looks to tie up more closely with Option 1

How many Exploration credits do you have in total?

If the figure is actually TOTAL profit, then you only need about 5 billion profit to get to Elite V in Odyssey if you were Elite before Odyssey, rather than 20 billion if the figure is EXTRA profit.

Also, since the credits in Horizons and Odyssey are linked (ie the same) its possible that Odyssey sees credits earned in Horizons (since Odyssey release) as counting towards Elite1-5.

Well I don't know what to tell you. I don't like the design, but that's how they did it, nothing is retroactive. It's very much as though the designers of Odyssey didn't really think about existing players and their progress.

This applies to everything in Odyssey, not just Elite+ ranks.

When you get an invite for one of on-foot engineers, for example, the unlock requirements start from that point. Anything you did previously, any data you sold or missions you did or whatever, does not count.

Compare that to the Horizons way. When you get an engineer invite (like Palin for example) and you've already flown your 5000LY from start, you immediately unlock him. It's retroactive.

Odyssey just...isn't. It kinda sucks, honestly.

@OP: do you have NPC crewmembers? Codex exploration earnings is the total paid by Universal Cartographics, maybe the game counts only what goes to your credit balance. For example 12% crew wages would put that 697.6 million total way under 640 million.

That's a great point. I totally forgot about that.

About the prestige ranks ( Elite I-V) and Horizons:
it doesn't matter in which version of E: D you collect the data and sell it, as long as the sale happens after EDO release.

Do you know if you have to have EDO installed, or doesn't that make a difference?

Not sure, but if I recall my experience* right, it doesn't matter. Of course, the prestige ranks are not visible in EDH (at least not in 3.8).

*When EDO launched I was closing an exploration trip, but couldn't make it in time to sell data before EDO launch. I was afraid that EDO would botch up my data / tags, and sold it in EDH (was probably some time between patches 1 & 2), netting something between 1.2-1.6 billion Cr (had been Elite in exploration for years at that point). Then I installed EDO to see how I'd like it, and noticed accidentally that I'm Elite III :). Didn't like EDO maps, returned to EDH. Another similar trip later installed EDO again (had unistalled it when EDO update 4 refused to install, as an added bonus EDH as default option in the Launcher) to see if I'd made Elite IV - I was Elite V already :D. Then removed EDO (so far for good) from my PC.

Are you sure 'cos I am Elite5 in trade and I have done no trading (generally) in Odyssey.
Same here. Shot up from Elite to Elite IV on trade with my one account as soon as I switched to Odyssey. My other (original) account, I'm still only at Elite despite also having enough trade profits to hit Elite V, but all in Horizons.

That is incorrect and you did not get that from Fandom.

Here is Fandom's page on Exploration Ranks.

It states very clearly that Elite is 320,000,000. It then goes on to show that to go beyond Elite at all requires Odyssey. If you're not playing Odyssey you can not advance beyond regular Elite status.

However, if you are playing Odyssey, the ranks progress as follows:

640,000,000 Elite I
960,000,000 Elite II
1.28 billion Elite III
1.6 billion Elite IV
1.92 billion Elite V
Well I have over 3.5 billion in exploration profits and I am still Elite 3 shrugs...so this is borked too.

You can see your progression to the next rank in the right hand panel on the first page, how far does it say you are to getting E IV? This is an old thread so the details may not be exactly correct, but I suspect your total there is your overall cumulative total whereas the actual progression from EIII to EIV requires you to earn an EXTRA 1.6b, on top of what you have already earned, not a cumulative total of 1.6b.

Now I won't swear to that because I have been an EV for a long time and never checked when I got each rank, if I am wrong someone will correct I am sure.
