Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

2 months back, I found a nice Platinum hotspot (in an inner metallic ring) about 6500 LY out from Sol. I worked it for about a 3 to 4 weeks

In my T9 laser miner, I could fill up (576 tons) of Platinum, Osmium, Gold, Palladium and Monazite (from highest concentration to lowest) in about 2 to 2.5 hours. I did that until I had over 4000 platinum in the carrier (about 9 or 10 mining trips total switching off with exploration and exobiology after every two or three mining trips) and then went back to the bubble to sell it.

The platinum alone was worth about 1.4 Bil. I ended up giving a combined 750 tons of Platinum and Palladium to a friend just to get it off my carrier...by that time I was sick of hauling...I also paid him 200% of galactic average to fill my Tritium buy order, threw another billion into the carrier account and kept almost a billion to have on hand in my personal account, which is about where it was before I started selling stuff.
Good deal.

As a matter of fact, I have set course to regroup with my Carrier which is half way to such a spot, I'll reconfigure my cutter for laser mining and I'll see.

It's just to cut the monotony, I'd do some bounty hunting with my Corvette normally but I'm running out of material for Synthesis reload...

Thanks. Doctor switched me from Advil to Aleve and I've actually made progress in last two weeks. Hopefully I'll be using the joystick again by the time U14 comes out...

My new mantra is "Aleve, Ice, Rest"...rinse and repeat...
You got an RSI injury?
I found any meds to be useless and it was rest and sport injury massage including ultrasonic treatment that releived it. Takes a long time to get ride of bad RSI - more than a year or two.

Yeah, I've dealt with this one before, as well as my left arm and both feet...it takes forever but the world doesn't stop turning and things don't magically no longer need doing...unfortunately. But one day I'll be able to hold the joystick again without pain...one day...

This fit should do. I normally use this ship for trading but I mined a couple of time with it before, I still need to get better at managing Limpets and finding good spots.
Jacques Cartier Mining fit.

I got the tip on the Platinium spot from this video, I hope it is still valid.

Might still be valid. Not really a fan of Hawkes or "get rich quick in [insert game name here]" videos either... IMO, they're more like "how to ruin the game for you in the least amount of time" than anything else...

That said, the spot will probably still be good, unless it was nerfed (I have no idea). I went and found my own spot and took some advice from Marvin and Tyres here regarding lasers and limpets.

My build is still not optimal (IE: faster), but I'd have to give up 64 tons of cargo space (> 10%) at this point to bring the speed up (by adding 2 more collector limpets; I already have 8)...Ideally, a cutter is probably better suited, but I haven't unlocked any of the Imperial ships yet...

I had to "discover" the whole system, got jumped by a pirate who flew when I returned fire.

The thing about this built, is that the shield is real strong and weapons are on part too, even in this configuration (no seeker missiles and 4 autocannons missing), it is generally enough to get a kill on a pirate...

Going to mine now, I have 320 limpets to start with...

I don't like that mining Cutter build at all. Not that much cargo space, and not just heavy E rated sensors and life support, but they've been engineered too! At least switch them to D rated. And Prismatic shields are heavy and overkill for PvE trading and mining.
If you need a fuel scoop, fit a 6A instead of the 64t cargo rack to this.

Out in the black there are no pirates...my miner neither has, nor needs any offensive weapons...

Sorry, what I meant to say is that I would need another "collector limpet controller" so I could have 10 active collector limpets instead of the 8 I now have, which would speed up the collection process.

I don't intend to spend hours in the field, that's why I have a limited cargo space, I like to take breaks and returning to the carrier is the best way when I mine.

The shields saved my butt every single time I got interdicted, so your assumption on how overkilled they are is not accurate from my PoV, I'm not doing trade or mining for the stake of trading H.P with pirates I have my Corvette for that and then again the shield are very strong with it too, in all cases it's them or me, and thanks to those shields it's them.

I don't use a fuel scoop on this ship, for trading, I fit a 16tons extra fuel tank which is enough to get to the trading station from the carrier and do the loops.

I can launch 10 Collector limpets, with 1 prospector.

5A = 3. Universal Multi Limpet Controller = 8.

Collector Limpet Controller

Universal Multi Limpet Controller

He probably just didn't have a bounty in that system. That's why you always carry a Kill Warrant Scanner - when you scan him with that, you'll get paid any bounties he has in other systems within range.

Just because he's a pirate doesn't mean he's wanted in the system you see him in at that given moment. Without the scanner, the system that wants him will never know you killed him, hence no bounty paid.
There is a danger with that, if the pirate isn‘t wanted in the current jurisdiction and you attack first then you are likely to be the one wanted by the law as from their point of view you have just attacked an innocent bystander.

Hope to be back in the bubble by 17:00 in game time Monday 31st. It will either be Teveri or where there is a good price for Monazite. I seem to have about a billion credits worth of Monazite in the carrier cargo hold for some reason... 😜
Small change turns up in the most unlikely places, behind the cushions of a sofa, in the pockets of something you haven’t worn in years and obscure corners of a Fleet Carrier.

Yeah, if you ignored the initial injury for too long, they will come back and haunt you every once in a while...
