SRV art

I've been doing little doodles using SRV tyre tracks (no - not just the obvious one!) for quite a while.

Recently I found myself in a location not at all spooky (and in a pink SRV) but wanting to do something for the spooktober #stellarscreamshots competition, so I came up with this.

That then gave me a great idea and thus was my #srvart series of videos born.

Here's the first three, more to follow soon hopefully!

Have you determined if the tracks were disappearing after 'time' or track length?
Fun to watch, admittedly!
Pretty sure it's length, the tracks are like that snake game, undrawing from the back end of the tracks as you add to the front end. As I said to someone else today, I can imagine a literal fixed length array of points that the game uses to store the path of the tracks.

Something I will have to keep in mind when I manage to go out there and draw something...

Do they drive with external camera? This looks better than I can actually draw, lol.
Yup, as seen in footage - position camera in top-down view above SRV, making sure that camera won't move when the SRV reaches the outer edges of the drawing (which has ruined numerous attempts), position SRV where I want the drawing to start, re-log to clear any existing tracks, re-position camera again, switch camera back to SRV control, start drawing. I've also dabbled with multiple ship dismiss/recalls to predict where it will land (shown to best effect in the "inconceivable" drawing). There is one slight confession/trick which I should admit to tho' which I think I'll air on tomorrow's Lave Radio (hint - I'm no artist, just a good SRV driver).

You drew on some film, stuck it to the screen, and joined the dots?

Basically - but a bit more hi-tec. I'm using a free program called PureRef which lets me position and scale an image that I want to trace on my screen, make it semi-transparent and then pin it to stay on top of other windows like Elite, which I run in borderless mode. Still takes a lot of care and patience to get it right and when you make a mistake (or the game crashes) you have to start all over again. Does make for some amusing bug reports tho!
