Bugged Odyssey: hand yourself in broken

I had to commit crime killing researchers in the settlement. I managed to complete my mission and get a reward. Then someting interesting happend...

I handed myself in to pay my crimes while being on foot in the outpost. So far so good - I payed 40000Cr and appeared at the detention center. But instead of the prison cell I appeared in my ship docked at the detention center - that's the first issue. Ok I though, unexpected but not critical - I thought to use Apex to save time goind back, disembarked from my ship to appear... in prison cell. Ok strange but ok. I went to the Apex and ordered long range travel to the original system. By bad coincidence there was no shipyards in the system. So I could not go to my carrier there. Find, next travel to the neighbouring system. Went to the InterAstra contact and... it let me order ship transfer, but no transfer happening - the ships I try to move not shown any progress. I know I have notoriety and stuff, but why I can access all the InterAstra UI and nothing happens. Looks very much like a bug.

Anyone had same?

By the way I managed to order another ship transfer. But that ship which I was originally put into got stuck at detention center. There is no way to Apex back. And I am affraid of getting another ship stucked there if I hand in myself again. Any ideas how to recover it?

I had some similar weirdness happen. Handed myself in (on foot), appeared in my ship, took off, had a sync error when I tried to jump out of the system, ended up back in prison.

Don't hand yourself in when on foot, it's bugged. If you arrived at a station while wanted, you can still disembark and hand in missions, then return to your ship before handing yourself in.

Yeah, that's the way to workaround Odyssey bug. This time I wanted my ship not to be moved to prison as it has bad jump range - so I wanted to save time using Apex. My bad. But now my ship is "locked" in prison so I need to figure out a way to get there without another ship (probably). Should I commit crime on-foot and let guards kill me?
FWIW, you can hand in on foot missions directly from the ship without disembarking.
Unless it is a mission from mission provider/NPC in the concourse (which it was in my case).

Have you tried turning it off then back on again? 😂

It may sound like a meme, but seriously, restarting the game client sometimes helps to sort out clearing ghost bounties in Odyssey (like for example going to jail apparently not clearing your bounties)

If you commit crimes and you have your ship with you, your ship is impounded too...
I have not tested it, but if you're arriving in an apex to a station and turn yourself in (with your ship in a different station), then the ship should not get impounded.

Yes, this is a known issue and its been in the game for AGES, since EDO released IIRC.

You have to log in to Horizons, get your ship to a big starport with Shipyard, relog to Odyssey, and then it will allow you to pay the ship related fine at Inter Astra.

It's an absolute PITB.

I confirm - the issue was related to impounding of the ship. Going back to the prison and paying impound cost freed my ship. So it not critical but rather very confusing bug - the button to trasfer ship in InterAstra should be disabled. And also disembarking from impounded ship should not move you to prison cell. And the ship should be impounded in the original station where you handed yourself in while being on-foot.

i'm not even sure it's a bug as much is the usual undocumented change to C&P which also has some obscure developments due to the fact that in Odyssey the players can be separated from their ship while Horizons had it fairly simple by going player=ship and ship=player.

Pretty much like the inability to pay bounties if the issuing faction is present in the system.
In Horizons you can, in Odyssey not anymore. People assume it's a bug and relog to Horizons 😒

Nothing is that simple in Elite. :p

Even in Horizons ship is not player. They actively changed that in a C&P overhaul so that it's no longer the player who gets fined, but the ship. I don't think anybody ever really saw the huge benefit of that.

The bug is that you are not able to transfer your ship to a shipyard, so you can pay the fine. Or that fine payment is not available as an option if the ship is not at that shipyard. Which it can't be, as the transfer is broken.
