Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Well here I am, almost back at base at the end of my long discovery trip and here I've found not only some kind of anemone that I've not found before, but also a "cordycep growth." And all in the same crater... :alien:

Why bother to go all the way to the Hawking's Gap Region when I can find ammonia worlds and all this other interesting stuff pretty much on my own doorstep eh?

Today I sold the Monazite and Platinum mined mostly by Marvin while out on October's expedition to the NGC planetary nebula. My margin on the minerals plus my exploration data sales have covered tritium and carrier maintenance costs for the month.
Now I'm back in my Odyssey ground mission ship, the Viper MKIV. I love the cockpit and the sounds this thing makes on thrusters. I also love it's not max engineered so I can tune it some more if I feel like it.
My mission is to get the mats to put night vision of my grade 3 Maverick suit. I bought some circuit boards from a carrier, now I running missions to get surveillance logs. I'm trying to do it in character avoid illegal acts, or at least being able to morally justify my actions. I might be off to an Anarchy system tomorrow ...

I decided to take a break from refilling my coffers and go sightseeing myself.

I went out to see one of the Stargoids.

The Stargoid was unimpressed with the cool skulls on my dashboard. No taste, at all.

It was pretty tiny in the sky. If I hadn't known it was there I probably wouldn't have noticed it at all. But now I can say I saw one with my own eyes. I'm part of Elite history!

Here's a bigger pic:

Years from now I can tell the story. "I was THERE. I saw them coming, and I DID NOTHING!!"

It'll be great.

I got hyperdicted by three interceptors again tonight - in the distance I saw a 'goid jump form and something went through it - looked like a swarm but it was so far away that it couldn't have been. Maybe it was a stargoid en-route and the hyperdiction was them keeping me out of the way. Dunno - it was neat though, just the three holding position with me.

BTW - I was en route to the bug killer to test out that "in Oddy, scaving a cargo rack gives seven" info from further up the another thread. Answer - nope, not at the Bug Killer - those three racks are damaged and only shooting them produces anything - the scav cutter does not function. The ground there in Oddy is HORRIBLE - deffo needs Horizons for your sanity.

Garay Terminal, Deciat - there's no place like home. (y)

Even though I only got as far as Hawking's Gap Region, in a ship with only a 48 LY jump range it feels like I've been to the other side of the galaxy and back. Anyway I'll change ships here and take the Asp X over to Felicity's place to flog all this exploration data there. I've no doubt my reputation will be restored and she'll love me again so much that not only will she give me max welly jump range on all my ships, but will invite me to dinner at the The Restaurant at the End of the Universe and give me an intergalactic hyperdrive to get there.

Not. :ROFLMAO:

So, what the heck are they and why are they taking so long to get here? Any thoughts, ideas or rumors?

Oh man, you didn't get any screen shots? Too bad, I've never been hyperdicted.

I am puzzled how do you know how much you don’t know?
Its not so much as I "know" per se, its more an assumption that I know much much much less than I don't know, simply for the point, again I assume, you were intending to make: Its nigh impossible to quantify how much one doesn't know...although there are some people in life who, one is sure, know much less than one does...

Please, feel free to assume that I am that person...I most likely am...

They are plot devices and, like wizards, will arrive exactly when they mean to...

Try it some time, lots of fun...when a Stargoid leaves a system, if you then jump out of said system, the hyperdiction will also be instantly hostile...apparently...

I don’t know about that.

I would say that it is an educated guess.

What you saw in the distance was the fourth that should have scanned you, missing the point of entry by a significant margin. And thus somehow unable to find you, leaving his escort in a state of confusion (Where is our wing leader? Does any of us have a scanner installed? What now? - Along those lines).

I have noticed a different approach from the pirates in asteroid belt clusters / planetary rings...
They seem to come in wings, these days, one being the obvious leader that does the talking/scanning/raiding action and two or three that just bring their guns to dissuade any form of resistance. And thes do not leave after the initial scan of your empty cargo hold , they patrol the area around you. I do not know if they would pounce once you start collecting stuff from mining, as I have the automated crime report system active which prompted some system authority vessels to pay a visit and drive off the pirates.
