Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

On a roll. Two more systems very similar. Up to 30 million for the day already and I'm only about 40 minutes in.
Ah, the RNG has turned. Enjoy it :)

Meanwhile, I decided to do an on-foot assassination mission. My target turned out to be a guard on a lonely rooftop all by himself.

He came over to scan me, and was a bit surprised at my response :)

Requesting permission to boom the tower.
Grats with your carrier, somehow i missed it. Looks nice.

For Guardian sites i did never care of sites maps, due to the fact that i find it better to clear the site before activating pylons anyway. So you wander it for a while to activate and disable sentinels and gather things, and you're kind of meeting a couple of pylons on your way. And then it's just a simplle logic - 1-2-3 near orb, if one was left, one can be right too, then checking center and bottom (and sometmes these outskirts, some settlements have little separated area(s) at their sides, sometimes a pylon can bee there too i think). I do remember myself searching for longer time that i could usually expect, but never so long that i felt i need to look for a map.

You seem to have figured out how to enter (and presumably exit) the FSS, and how to move targeting around.
Now you need to bind ZOOM IN TO TARGET, ZOOM OUT and TUNING.
Tuning is the one that lets you zoom in to target (= scan it).
Here are a couple of short videos showing just that, with no explanations:

Thanks I think I got one of those wrong...

I'll try next system, still on my way for Preia Phio LC-C d3 just at the border of the Arcadian Stream now...

Found a microscopic water moon, 345 kilometers diameter, 0.02 G's with six bio-signs and tons of mats.

All the forms of life would glow bright neon colors from a distance, once close they would pop into their normal colors.

Crossed the border into the Arcadian Stream, still struggling with the FSS tuning, can't get this needle to move but I managed about 5 million+ pay off from my onboard Universal Cartographic Agent, I knew it would come handy, now it's gonna be interesting.
I wonder if I can push to the Emphyrean Straights, I can't believe I've been there with the Anaconda already...

Today I got some time to play at my local compromised nav beacon with the fixed huge cannons short range engineered with a high yield and a thermal cascade effect on my Corvette. A theoretical 157.7 DPS. While I getter better hit rate with fixed compared the gimballed cannons I tried, gimballed huge multi cannons are still more effective on average.
But, it's nice to have something to shoot with that's immune to chaff, and it's hilarious when you do catch a hit on a smaller ship with 50% hull and it just goes boom!
As always, the sound designers have out done themselves with the noise two huge cannons make when they go off 😜
The next major goal for me is to get the next 56% of rank to get promoted from dangerous in combat. I plan to do it with a variety of weapons and ships and update 14 might bring some AX combat into the mix.
I expect to be doing more engineering in the process.
Only when I have achieved this will I head out into the black once without the carrier, and then again with it, to get the next Elite III in exploration and another exobiogy rank.
That's the plan, but player faction support and Xeno invasions might mean plans change. We'll see.

What are you using for controls? While in game, if you tap "esc" or escape it should let you go to settings, controls. In there you can find how their bound and even change them if you like.
That's what I do, I did my HOTAS and Throttle binding this way but I am unable to get this Tuning option to work, using the throttle or stick buttons, it won't move.

I'll keep trying different options..

The problem with the fixed weapons on the corvette is that it is not maneuverable enough to keep on target vs a light fighter on even some mediums to be a viable option, so you're right, in average, the gimballed give you a better DPS, their advantage is to be able to give you a degree of off-axis capabiolities. You can keep hitting the target for much longer.

Here's my setup for tuning:

That "joy RZ-axis" is my T16000M FCS throttle rocker switch, "mouze z-axis" is the mouse wheel (for fine tuning) and "joy U-axis" is the wheel of same throttle.
Absolute tuning means that the slider moves with axis position, the position staying same over sessions if you don't touch that axis in the meantime.

Here is mine. I tried POV Right/Left with no positive results... Right now I try to use the yaw axis of the throttle but will revert to the POV hat.

Gimballed huge cannons are hopeless because the gimbal 'wobble' means you don't score a hit often. A gimalled multi cannon puts enough shot out to get hits. The Covette is agile enough to get hits with a fixed cannon enough of the time when ships approach at the right angled. It is impossible to hit a fast eagle or viper if the are not heading straight for you. But the 3 gimballed beams kill them quick enough.

In the end the size and lack of speed and agility of the Corvette have me thinking about different Chieftain loadouts again. Must try burst lasers with intertial impact sometime.

Try putting something else entirely to the tuning left & tuning right parts, like keyboard keys or some stick buttons, but leave the tuning part alone.
Now it's working, I reverted to POV then back to Throttle yaw axis.

Binding is a bit FUB@R in this game... Thanks for your help.

Multi-cannons is what I use, not huge cannons.

The Corvette has a too slow pitch rate to follow a fast moving target, when it comes close, what gimballed allows you to do is to keep the piper on target longer, I got the hang of it by now, I scored perhaps 90% of my 23953 bounties, 1669 Combat bounds and 256 assassination with it.

It is the most efficient combat ship of all but has its limitations, getting it into a turning fight at speeds is not what it likes, instead, slow and even backward works a lot better for it, especially vs ships like the Vulture Fer-de-Lance and Mamba, the rest of them it pretty much make small milk of them, especially the Anaconda when you sub-target the power plant.

The other advantage I enjoy is my pilot, she is now Elite and equiped with an XG9 Lance, she can easily take down a light fighter and is very efficient at assisting taking down shields, in a multi-target situation she will struggle because she'll get focused fired until there are only two or only one ship, but otherwise, she is a clear advantage.

One thing I do when bounty hunting vs fast targets when I can, I stay in the proximity of rocks in the asteroid field, this takes the fast movers advantages because they have much less room to maneuver in, while I am near stationary using boost and vertical thruster in pitch and yaw. Rolls is good enough so I don't need to use boost.
