Winter DLC Speculation

  • Are a great species in mixed species enclosures (the vast majority of echidnas I've seen in zoos have been kept alongside a variety of other species).
What are they typically paired with? I’ve only been to one zoo that has them. Apparently they had them in two enclosures, one to themselves and one shared with kookaburras, but I didn’t notice them with the kookaburras or even find out they’re kept there until afterward.

what animal/s u think the next dlc will down from the most requested animals in the meta wishlist?
I could see maybe or sloth or the tassie or wolverine (Unfortunately I'm not sure if the ACP will arrive in the next dlc I can only hope so!)

At the zoos I’ve visited I’ve seen them kept with bilbies, bandicoots, bettongs, hare-wallabies, frogmouths, potoroos, koalas and with a big variety of Australian rainforest birds (including lyrebirds) in a walkthrough aviary. I’ve also heard of them being kept with large wallabies and reptiles like shinglebacks and bluetongues, and I’m sure there’s many other animals they’ve successfully been kept with. They’re small, slow and unaggressive so they get along with most species.

I think that mountain pack have quite a good chance this time around. I like to mix cold climate mountain species with thise from warmer regions:

Wolverine
Golden takin
Markhor
Hamadryas baboon
Caracal
Spectacled bear
Somali wild donkey or Striped hyena
Ex: Griffon vulture

Wow, just found out those are also kept a lot in Europe. I really like Kookaburras. Hope they'll someday make it into the Game. Wish Lyrebirds would also be kept outside of Australia. 🥳 Brush Turkeys are also kept outside of Australia. Probably makes those more likely to appear in a future DLC

😂 I'm going to make a mixed Enclosure with those and Ants.
Nice to read that they can be kept together with so many Species. Echidna together with a Tree Kangaroo would be nice

I don’t know what zoos you’re going to but at all of the ones I’ve been to most birds are kept in aviaries considerably smaller than the new walk-through. Most birds are kept in aviaries not much bigger, or even smaller, than the old exhibits which are, after all, 4x4 m, which is the size of a large room (or 4 king sized beds).
About 90% of all the zoos that I visited have larger aviaries for everything that is bigger than canaries.......maybe a few older or very small zoos have tiny ones for bigger birds. But the majority has bigger ones (up to really big walk through aviaries for several different species)

Oceania is a very beautiful place to think about, and more now with the recently added common wombat. So, if Oceania gets more representations, this animals can be wonderful or even must choices:

-Tasmanian Devil. I don´t need to give explications of why this incredible animal should came to the game.
-Emu. Another bird representation and a must in almost every zoo.
-Goodfellow´s Tree Kangaroo. There are other species of tree kangaroos, but this one is my favourite. Very unique addition to tropical zones.
-North Island Brown Kiwi. The cutest terrestrial bird and a must have for New Zeland sections.
-Bennet/Yellow-Footed Rock Wallabies. I can´t have a choice between this 2. They are so representative for Oceania.
-Echidna. I don´t care for the species, with an echidna i can be happy. Such a unique species and the last monotreme for the game collection.
-Little Blue Penguin. Penguins are so cool, and have this species can be so cool.
-Tuataras. A very unique and prehistoric reptile. Very nice if they come to the game.

Oceania is behind South America my favorite region, and we need more representations of such a place
Why does everyone always seem to forget that the most poisonous snake lives in Australia🤔🤔🤔

If it's anything taiga or mountain related, it should definitely be the wolverine. If only for the fact it's the only animal in the entire top 10 that fits in those biomes. If it's just temperate I believe that would cover the Tasmanian Devil as well, but may be wrong.

If it's Island related Tasmanian Devil has got to be a sure bet.

So...one of the two I'd think. Granted Frontier can make a pack with anything and sell it, but given it's likely to be a December release those two animals make the most sense. Unless of course, it's birds.

Australia has no poisonous snakes. Venomous snakes on the other hand, we have plenty ;)

The inland taipan is actually one of my most wanted exhibit animals despite being a bit of a "clone" of the eastern brown (which is the 2nd most venomous). However, there's quite a few Oceanian reptiles that take priority to it (tuatara, frilled lizard, thorny devil, green tree python etc).

1 month to the first Tuesday of December. While I don't expect it to fall that early, we are likely at a maximum of 1½ months away from the next DLC. That is pretty wild.
Not that I particularly want to guess, but considering the short distance between releases I'm thinking the 20th of December for the next one.

I know i shouldn´t make hype on me, but i will do like a full idea of the steam notices from Planet zoo for the possible "Mountains animal Pack". I Don´t know why, but i like so much doing that :D

I think a great way to get some South American representation as well as have a Winter theming (which is very likely knowing Frontier), I think an Ice Age Animal Pack might be a great idea.
Now, I am by no means advocating for Pleistocene species in game. This hypothetical pack would give us animals that are close relatives of extinct Pleistocene animals with the mind to educate players on extinction as well as evolution. A lineup could look something like this:

Ice Age Animal Pack
-Muskox (Bootherium)
-Sumatran Rhinoceros (Wooly Rhino)
-Dromedary Camel (High Arctic Camel)
-Spectacled Bear (Short Faced Bear)
-Short Beaked Echidna (Giant Echidna)
-Six Banded Armadillo (Glyptodon)
-European Bison (Steppe Bison)
-Linnaeus’ Two Toed Sloth (WE) (Megatherium)

This way, we get some highly requested animals, South American and Oceania representation and still align well with a Winter theme.

Let's brainstorm. Frontier tends to surprise us with unexpected themes. So mountains and aviaries asude, what are some out of left field themes they could use?

I love the idea, but they called the nocturnal pack "twilight pack" because ut's more palateable with general audiences.

You think they'd actually take a theme that requires pretty advanced zoological and paleontological knowledge to get?

I think so long as they market it that the animals are descendants of Ice Age animals, and not the actual animals themselves, it should be fine! It all depends on how well they market it via socials, but I think Frontier could definitely pull it off.
San Diego Zoo’s ‘Elephant Odyssey’ exhibit could be great inspiration for how they advertise it. General zoo goers seem to understand what that exhibit manages to do, so I’m sure that audiences of this game could grasp the concept of a pack focused on extinction and evolution. I hope so anyway!
