Guys debating hardware in DCS forum are like "Eh, let's fit a couple of JATO rockets on our Chevy SS 454, it will fly for sure"...

250-300mph? Seems a little low but I'm no expert, however I've seen top-fuel dragsters do 300mph on the quarter mile...

I think this story was meant as a joke, although I'm not sure, I read it first time in Flight International when it went out.

There are several variants of the JATOs, one develops at least 1,000 pounds of thrust for 15 seconds, the 1967 Cevy Impala weight on 3836 lbs, that's a pretty low TWR for getting this car to fly, but I can't stop laughing every time I read the story.

Anyway I was refering to the way people think that they can stick an hyper fast RAM to their PC and expect it to run faster because the number on the packaging is higher than what they hace at home...
I mean you pop in the shop ask for a Cl 16 3600 MHz 4 sticks RAM kit, the seller is not going to ask you what CPU you're running but it is what makes the difference, if your CPU can handle it or not. In most case, the answer is NOT.

So I've been in the FDL for the last two hours. I took on these missions:

All total, I had to kill 104 pirates. They were all threat level 8 missions, all zones level 4 with nothing less than Deadly ranked fighters.

I just finished.

I'm at 72% of the way through Master right now before I cash everything in.

All of that for 4%. That's it. 4 freaking percent.

It's just stupid in the extreme. And these are the hardest missions available to me.

Today I dusted off the Silver Dragon, my Anaconda, for a science experiment.
I needed decent jump range and armour strength.
Hypothesis: Carrying an Unclassified Relic in your cargo hold protects your ship's Guardian technology from degradation by the Proteus Wave in HIP 22460.
I could find no reference with a Google search to anyone trying this.
With 4 x large Guardian Shard Cannons and a class 5 Guardian FSD booster on board I set off.
After the inevitable hyperdiction on the last jump into HIP 22460, I was there.

Experiment Result: Guardian modules still degrade as before.

Modules repaired with the AFMU I had fitted, I called in at stations to collect the components to get a corrosion resistant cargo rack on the way back. Got interdicted by a Mamba that quickly exploded due to the 4 large Guardian Shard Cannons.
Almost back at my carrier with the goodies. I'll get the corrosion resistant cargo rack another day.

Best way and fastest I've been told are the Combat zones...

Assassinations are slow toi carry over and doesn't bring much in term of ranking progresses, second best I'd say find a good extraction Site (Hazardous) and clean it as many times as possible.
 
I did a bit more fighting in the T10, and then decided to check out the local station to see what kind of on-foot missions they might have.

It's the first time I've disembarked from the T10.

I don't think I will try to land it at any settlements :)

The CPU is only one limiting factor, but not exactly the most important one in this equasion. First off, the mainboard must have the means to handle the RAM, if you have one of these, you most likely have the CPU to go with it. You still might run into a snag if your CPU is on the lower end of the specs, though...
Another question would be if the RAM sticks would even fit in the slots of the mainboard, as these seem to change every once in a while with a new RAM spec.

Kinda feels like these guys are stuck in the olden days of the X86 processors and according hardware...
 
Gaining Combat rank is by far the slowest of all the ranks, no question.
Yeah, it took me for ever, plus the strength of the target have to increase as you progress when you do bounty hunting...

There are multiple reasons why a PC can be slow but CPU controllers limits are the graal when it comes to CPU bottleneck, unless you fit ram that is not supported by your motherboard it shouldn't be an issue but people don't really know what they're doing and at the end of the day it is the issue.

High intensity combat zones give a steady supply of dangerous to elite ships to shoot for the time it takes you to win them - about 20 to 35 minutes for me in the Vette.
A compromised nav beacon gives an unending supply of similar rank ships.
If there is a war on for my player faction I'd rather di combat zones as it feels like there is a purposes beyond grinding combat rank to it. But the local compromised nav beacon is where I go for some mindless shooting or to test a new ship or weapon. It helps that a member of my faction keeps his fleet carrier parked there for quick rearming and getting back to the beacon.
 
I've refitted my 'Vette for more cargo space. I dropped the 7A Primsmatic to a 6A and the 5A Collectors to 3A. Currently got 496T cargo space.
I'd got tired of the 720T CargoBus Cutter, what with boosting out of interdictions and the hopeless docking computer.
Now I don't run from a fight and I've got decent profit in the hold.

I took the Imperial Eagle out for a Data cruise. Got some thugs sent after me. Tried my luck with a Vulture.
I did some damage, but had to bail out because real life interfered and I ran out of skill.
I think a more skilled pilot than me could have given that Vulture a serious run for their money.

The Cutter can take out any no good pirate. Anaconda's and the rare Corvette are easy - reverski manoeuvre. You can fly backwards fast enough to keep them 3km or more away and then take them out with long ranger lasers and multi cannons. It's not the most exciting form of combat, but there really is no pirate interdicting you, you can't destroy.
You do kind of need to take over from the docking computer often...

I haven’t heard that story or it’s more believable variant involving some track and a mine in the desert for ages, maybe not even this century.
