Latest CG, the clearest example of P2W in ED to date?

I can't believe you of all people is using arguments that SC backers make to claim selling ships in SC isn't P2W..

SC is NOT P2W tho. After all there is no winning in Star Citizen. You’re paying to support the idea of the game.

All of the ships are available in game for free.

untill they do a wipe and they take all the credit bought ships out of peoples accounts and only give back the cash bought ships for free......... ships which are bought for in cash having free replacement in game........(Frontier would never do that :D ) to be honest i doubt i will be playing SC until they stop that nonsense despite having my backer copy of it.

But according to some in this thread, that is STILL not pay to win becuase you could just re earn those ships again in game. ;)
It's only time spent after all not money, right? Chris Roberts had the gall to call it "Pay to Laze"

To many arguing on behalf of FDEV in here, P2W is a super simple definition... Is there a "win state" in ED? No. Well then there can be no Pay 2 Win. Simples.
To others, P2W is more nuanced. Someone early said P2A (advantage) which is an odd turn of phrase, but I know what they mean.
It's a case of how much time do you lose if you don't pay?
Cosmetics are clearly NOT P2W by any measure what soever.

But the fact that one can fly one's pocket mandalay to a port 500 Ly away from Minerva, despawn it, spawn an pocket Panther, with >1000T cargo, fill it with CMM at a station further away from the fray, fly back to the station and despawn it and respawn their mandalay...

That's a pretty powerful mechanism that will NEVER be available to someone who doesn't pay even if the ships aren't engineered...

which brings me back to the original tenet:

Is there a "win state" in ED? No. Well then there can be no Pay 2 Win. Simples. Right? Right?

hmm... it's definitely a grey area.

it is what it is and this is probably not the place to moan about that game..... maybe i am naive but i am still hoping this is all pre release drama and once it launches (and i hope it does 1 day) a lot of this nonsense will be sorted. Hope dies last after all.

I plan to retire in 10 years so fingers crossed it will be ready by then......... PC2 should be earnable with credits in this game by then as well! ;)

Hyperbole.
Really?
My build - is this hyperbolic?
Fact is that the Panther has so much power available that it needs to be packed with 6 overcharged plasmas, 4 railguns, a reinforced class 8 prismatic shield, 6 shield boosters and a size 7 shield cell bank to finally run out of power.
And you mentioned Hyperbole! 🤣
The comment about nothing better than a Sidewinder is just asinine and unworthy of you.
I didn't cast the first stone...

:D

Still love my CM4, its my go-to ship for ground missions.
I play a second commander called Rick Sanchez 3L-173... He's a tightwad sunovabich and only flies small ships+ the Type 7 flying coffin... (keelback for SLF action is also permitted)

The Mk 4 is his favourite ship for pretty much everything. It's slow as molasses but it's really nicely fitted bested only by its namesake successor.

What stone was first cast then? Because the person you are replying to made no statement which would warrant that response.
Interpretation, obviously, I make a comment you dislike it is asinine and unworthy.
Another poster makes ridiculous claims and it is fact...

It runs on an armoured plant with thermal spread and still powers everything without requiring any kind of power management. There's still the whole range of overcharging the plant, so you could fit much much more still.
It wasn't me who shouted hyperbole... (so you think every ship should be forced to have to use power management too?)

Depends on the loadout obviously. Meanwhile the Beluga sits at the other end of the spectrum, this is a modest build, but absolutely requires a G5 OC plant and power management to run, on a ship that's already notoriously hot.

Wouldn't do them much good. The reason I can blow up CZ ships in 2-3 salvos in my Corsair after dropping the shield is more to do with the 6 balls of plasma going through the power plant than anything I'm doing to the hull.

If FDev actually wanted NPCs to be more of a challenge because of increased DPS of the new ships, they need to either make NPCs smarter or up their damage. Two changes I'd welcome anyway based on how my thermal resist biweave build iClipper and FAS stand up against spec ops FdLs.
fair point but just keep in mind not everyone has specialised builds to surivive such encounters.

my FGS gets melted very quickly against spec ops... and bare in mind this isnt some E rated pile of junk, it is a mostly A rated, partly engineered ship.
unless the solution is we all fly metabuilds then i fear a ship to make you sweat would be insta death for other ships.

It happened, didn't it?
And the outrage here was epic! MoM had to tone them down to toothless to placate the masses and make them 'fair' to the baseline player, rather than the average.
the issue is FD massively increased the gap of the metabuild from the A rated vanilla ship.

A rated........ hell E rated even is meant to be viable equipment in game. Also standard off the shelf lasers are meant to be viable.

i could not believe the different in damage output i noticed going from level 3 legacy engineered rapid fire pulse lasers to modern level 5 beam lasers. it was night and day different (its fresh in my mind as it happens as i only did it in the last CG in the combat zones).

combine that with the potential massive hull HP inflation and FD have an impossible task making that lot playable but challenging for everyone.

That's more a problem of engineered vs not engineered. Engineering V1 was already powerful, and then FDEV worsened it with V2, by making the upper end of V1 god rolls the baseline that's always guaranteed at G5. In that scenario there is no way to win anymore. Make the NPCs too good, and new players with no engineering yet will be slaughtered. So we have what we have. Fully engineered ships wipe the floor with NPCs. A prime example why balance matters and how FDEV botched it in this case.

You can't make an argument on the basis of a bad build. That's like adding a class 8A fuel scoop to a T-9 and complaining about the power requirements.
The point is, on the Panther you can get away with pretty much any bad build. I'm not necessarily asking for a Panther nerf. But the Beluga is the most extreme case of an older ship needing a buff to bring it more in line with modern offerings.
