1.1 Beta - You're not missing anything

Thanks OP for the beta update; I'm a beta player but I haven't bothered with 1.1 because the new feature list was underwhelming. Being shepherded about by the DbAdmin is not my idea of gameplay. If grinding is not wanted by many players I'm not sure why FD thinks organised grinding is somehow better.

Its crazy when you put it like that actually.

It seems like they heard about the occassional organised attempts at influencing politics and system control and decided that must be what everyone loves to do for months on end, and the whole space thing is just a method of transportation to us.

Eh? I bought the game a month ago. That's when it was released. What do you expect to see within 1 month?
I have had it for a week, and for a jazzed up version of the original game it is excellent. I got what I was expecting to be honest, pretty much the same game much better graphics. Not a great fan of multiplayer games, on paper they sound great, but they are always full of moany gits, griefers and hackers (present company excepted).

As the months and years pass, if this games lasts that long, I look forward to seeing what they do to improve it. If it dies, I hope that there will be an off line version released.

Exactly, the 1.1 patch is basically a HUGE bug fix patch. Almost zero content. Giant bug fix patches and sweeping changes happen at the end of Beta phase or when an expansion is released when things get re-balanced or new systems are added.

This game NEEDS content more then anything right now. This patch doesn't address the biggest underlying issues the game has. City lights, HUD lighting etc could have been added at ANY point in a small update and it wouldn't matter because it doesn't change gameplay or improve it in ANY WAY.

The community goals as described by the OP is exactly what I feared they would be: Boring and pointles just like everything else at the moment. Instead of making something compelling to play, they applied the same level of thought and quality to it as every other mission and objective in the game: bare minimum to say "it works". 20k Cr and discount on metals? Really? thats it? I can go blow up a wanted ship and make more in 5 mins then bothering to do even MORE space trucking to see a % bar move.

This patch = 1.1 Le Sigh.

This ain't a BIG update, especially about co-op. The big update is WINGS and it is coming next month.

This is a BETA, you sound like you were expecting everything to work? My advice, take a break from the game, then come back in a month.

I have to admit I find the attitude to the 1.1 Beta to be pretty depressing.
While I've not been able to participate as yet (my internet is rubbish), even if the changes are absolutely tiny is it not a good thing that FD are running a Beta to make sure things work? Surely that is vastly better than the opposite..
Each update has been pretty small and incremental and in updating it with a live player base they need to be careful, it is easy to trip up and this has happened in the past.
So really, cut them some slack.
We can have a huge argument about whether more should have been there at release or how people feel things should be balanced differently or what should be expanded upon but, now that we do have a live game that people are playing, they have to be cautious.
I think it is also worth noting that testing a system works is not the same as saying the way it is presented in the Beta is the way it will finally and exclusively be used. Perhaps it is, but checking the infrastructure works is important and each building block they get in place helps in the long run.

Yes and no on some of this. Many of these bug fixes surely could have been rolled out as small hot fixes, evaluated to be working and then move onto the next one. Instead, we have a huge amount of bug fixes introduced at the same time, and now we are seeing bugs that had previously been fixed reintroduced, things that were supposedly fixed still not working correctly, things that previously worked fine, no longer working, and the new content is very thin.

It feels more like running this massive patch as a beta with beta testing is a gimick.

nicely put

If you can get away with charging people to do Q&A work for you, it'd be silly not to. The more often you can give them something to test, the more money you make.

Wait, you mean they marketed this game as a $60.00 beta??? Who would have thought.

I agree with you, this game is in Beta state. Actually content wise, it's in Alpha. Usually Beta means feature complete and massive bug fixing and tweaking.

I have to agree, it feels gimmicky to me also. In the newly made beta 1.1 forum section there are a few dev posts here and there scattered around but the huge majority dont touch on the subjects we are bringing up for them. this was the same with Alpha, Beta and Gamma i found. The standard response is "ticket" - which of course we do but get no reply on for months on end or ever in many cases. The same bugs keep coming up over and over again. The current beta still has the stuttering planet thing for instance that has been around since early "beta" nearly a year ago.

Then you have massively unrealistic expectations.

It's far quicker to think up features than to actually code and test them, and what's being added in 1.1 is quite frankly a huge amount of work for just a month or so.

All these armchair developers know not what they are talking about half the time, one change in the code basically makes it a new program. That said, it may have been released a bit early when you compare the promises to the product.

I was not sure about the game to start with but I now like it, particularly that many aspects have been 'nerfed' the game has been out less that two months and players are amassing thousands of millions, running muti-million credit ships, and complaining about it. Clearly the glitches have been spoiling them.

For me it was that exactly. Once I had the ships I wanted and I could play without grinding for credits I had nothing left to do. And I quit.

I have Beta access, but after reading the forum I have not bothered and tbh am dreading 1.1 release.

From what I have read from the forums.

1. Missile Nerfs
2. Python Nerfs

But they are totally changing the lasers, they now generate heat and if you run beam lasers, expect to overheat and damage your hull. Great let us mess with something that works un announced when there are many other broken things.

3. Light on planets and dashboard
4. Horrid community play additions not worth getting at all excited about
5. Landing pads STILL broken
6. Massive and worse frame rates and instances of DK2 being destroyed.

Just read the forums and you will see the comments and main parts.

I reckon the forums will be a troll fest when it goes live.

My concern is that anything that gets added to the game thats actually worth doing is going to cost extra £££. Another game that has done this is The Sims 4, although i guess some might disagree. They release a barebones game that lacks any real content then release expansion packs for extra £££. I find the game lacking in any real content and tbh the thought of having to spend extra £££ on top of the £40 i already paid just to make the game interesting is a joke. I hope they dont go down this route.

I only logged on to the beta briefly to take a look. THE single thing I saw that looks like a worthwhile change is the load speed and route planning on the Galaxy map. OK, that seems to be a HUGE improvement. Question is, "if it's working so well in the beta now, why not get it to the live game now"?

I agree with many of the comments in the thread and don't intend to participate in the beta for reasons I've already stated. The ED devs need some real leadership and vision management or this game will go downhill fast. Virtually no interesting missions currently doesn't need a programming team to fix, just some creative writers. Buy a Lakon 9 and see how many missions are there for you to do.

To top it off, there will be tons of changes to weapons and shields, etc. that everyone will have to relearn once 1.1 goes live. I'm just going to grind credts in the current release and then cash in my chips when 1.1 goes live and start again with cheap ships that won't cost a fortune to lose.

Make sure you aim ahead with a lot of lead. ED is a moving target that you have to stay way ahead of.

Really cool platform

Tried the beta, and well changes are there but in my opinion, i believe we still got missing promised features ! D: not sure i like how FD is handling things right now, all the "updates and new content". I cant wrap my head around why they feel as if they were "stuck" in some sort of limbo :(

Perhaps BETA 1.1 is a way to get founders, Alpha, Beta, Gamma people to slow down their progression towards the 10K prize. I am sure there are a few founders out there that are close to the prize. FD is having them jump over to Beta to slow down their progression while they save up the prize money.

Eh? I bought the game a month ago. That's when it was released. What do you expect to see within 1 month?

Yes, you did.

But alot of us have been here for the past year where the game has passed several development phases and the closer to release we got, the more some of us started worrying about the features and parts of ED still lacking.

The general response to this worry was that "its coming, were seeing the barebones, just wait for (insert) and you will see".
It was said during beta to wait for gamma, during gamma to wait for release, after release to wait for first update.

If anything, they should be working (and communicating) progress on the multiplayer/coop part of ED and put on hold the continous stream of graphical/audio work...The game looks and sounds great already, leave these things til later.
No one will quit playing because cities doesnt light up at nighttime...
Not being able to team up and experience the game co-op will.

OP is just trolling though, the 1.1 was pretty much laid out some time before its beta release so what is and isnt in it cant be much of a surprise to anyone. 1.1 is pretty much exactly what I expected, but not what I had hoped for.

1.2 is the one to keep an eye on though.

I must say that until now, I have had fun doing all sorts of stuff, fair and square ! However , I am slowly getting a bit annoyed by all the small things : buliitin boards that does not scale missions, the lack of variety in missions, no long distance missions, predictable occurrences, a trading market that is stale, no sense of real interaction with the things around you, Gal net news is as relevant as last months newspaper and jus as dynamic. You can to a certain degree try "not to see this" but that is getting harder.

Having read the 1.1 release notes it is nice to see the fix list, but very disappointing to see the feature list, very disappointing indeed. I think it is all gimmicky fluff and no substance. There has been so many threads on the forums requesting that the game become deeper, right from release...so city lights ??????

I am not going to Beta, I will just spend the next week in my Python, Bounty hunt (got blown out of the sky yesterday) :( , trade a bit , find some rares mess a little around while chatting on TS , yes no ingame chat either + ridiculous coms, at leas TS works.
And then we will see how long before I probably allso will become a whiner :D , Well BF 4 took 5 months before you catually could play it sooo.....
But yes I agree , 1.1 seems undewhelming.

Cheers Cmdr's
