1080 setup question(s)

Daft question, but how do you see what FPS you are getting while wearing the Oculus?

Cntrl+F and FPS are displayed on the 2d window. Either look through the nose gap of the rift or record that screen with OBS or maybe shadowplay(?)
another option is to use the Oculus debug tool. It will show you all kinds of information inside the Rift...

3570k@4.4ghz, 16gb ram, EVGA ACX SC 1080 here. Im basically resigned to always being in 45fps/ASW mode. The only time I see a consistent 90fps is in super cruise and frankly who cares about super cruise? I want 90 on planets, 90 in RES, I want 90 in CZs and thats just not gonna happen. Even if I use VR low preset I still get 45fps/ASW in a RES/CZ so I might as well crank up settings for visual fidelity. Im on my MacBook Pro so I can't remember what settings I use, but I know its .85 SS and 1.5 HMD, HMD quality being the most important factor. I will not use anything less than 1.5.

That can't be right. I have an i5 2500k at 4.4ghz. 16gb Ram and an AMD Fury which is somewhat worse then your 1080. I only get ASW in stations and on planets, and then not all the time. Something else must be going on there.

why 4? Everything I ever read about VR and pre rendererd frames was to set it to 1...
YOU ARE RIGHT! it will bottleneck on the cpu side, it works well on my rig as I have 16 cpu's with rather large buffers....never mind.
