15.02 Update Notes

"Upload the malware to insert random data port here" doesn't work reliably either.

I just uploaded the malware to the required port (yes, I triple checked it) and nothing happened. Well, some things happened - I lost the malware, got a bounty and it seems I have to abandon the mission and get a reputation hit. Not. Fun.
This is already the 3rd mission type that simply does not work as it should.

Could we perhaps get an update to ED where all (and I mean ALL) focus would be on making the missions work?

It really is not fun having to suffer reputation hits because of bugged missions when you are trying to gain as much influence for the faction as possible.
I am sure we could.

But like previous bug fix only updates it will be unpopular with a vocal minority on the forums after all not everyone bothers with missions and influence.

That is not to say it shouldn’t be done after all any update is unpopular with some minority of forumites or other.

I get what you are trying to say and it really seems to be that way.
This one however, might not be that unpopular since missions are the very heart of gameplay in ED.
And soooo many mission types are broken that it's almost impossible to play the game for 15 minutes without having to relog, restart, pray to god or abandon missions.

I really hope CMs are indeed monitoring this thread (as they said they would) so this can be fixed to some extent.
It's really not that unreasonable of a request wanting to have working missions in a video game.

Not unreasonable at all.

I will add a counter point, I have been playing since 2016 and have rarely done any mission unless it was needed for an unlock or to rank up. My reasons for not doing them is nothing to do with how bugged or not they were but the feeling in the early days that they were potential traps and an ongoing dislike of being told exactly what to do.

Just gonna write that I too have been experiencing broken Reactivation missions. Took 2 reactivation missions in a recovery system a couple days ago and both settlements were powered on when I got there.

Yup, me too. So far I've only attempted two and both were already powered on. I put a ticket in the other day.

What the development team has done with Elite Dangerous is amateurish. First they breached the terms and conditions of console users, which they promised and made them buy a DLC, which later stopped working and was removed. They breached the Terms and Conditions of PC users, which said that, with certain requirements, they would be able to play the base game with live horizon and other players. They found out that this is not the case, and now with the base game and those requirements they only have to settle for playing in legacy. They have been lied to. Now, they made the DLC, a base game, with a later version, even of the same game engine, and that modifies the live version of the base. So now there are 2 base games because of a DLC, and that leaves out the players of the base game from the live one? It is really beginners, it absolutely violates the terms and conditions of the game in which it was stated that with the base game you could play live with other users, nowhere does it say that they would only be able to play in legacy. They can block me, delete the comment, or do whatever they want. What they can't delete is that they have chosen the wrong path in the development of the game. I am sorry to be so crude with the commentary, but so many comings and goings have already tired the users, who no longer know which is the base game, which is the complement and which way they want to go. The only thing they have achieved with all the fuss, is to expel users even from the base game and what they promised at the beginning.

One of the worst video game developments I have ever seen, I do not recommend buying this game. The base game Elite Dangerous was offered with the feature: "To be able to play online in a live galaxy with other players, with specific PC requirements". These terms were fulfilled in the base game Elite Dangerous.
Subsequently, the "DLC" Horizon was created, with the same characteristics: "Being able to play online in a live galaxy with other players, with specific PC requirements that were the same as in the base game". With the difference that now you were going to be able to descend to planets. Up to this point it was fine.
They had the worst idea to make the DLC, a base game and merge both versions into one, with the 3.0 video game engine, although this merger was not so serious, as it was still respecting the terms and conditions of allowing users to continue playing a live galaxy with other players and with the same requirements. Player actions were still interacting with the live one.
However, there was already a mistake by the development team to make a DLC, the base game, which could not be disabled and did modify the base game preferences. An evidence that the Elite Dangerous development team does not understand that it is a DLC, which, if deactivated, should not modify the features of the base game, nor change its gameplay rules, nor its gameplay. The base game and the Horizon DLC were offered with the promise that: "Players would be able to play in a live galaxy with other players also on Consoles under the same requirements". However, they already started to not meet the requirements, because due to bugs, it was not playable with the presented features.
They had the lousy idea to present the Odyssey DLC and the 4.0 engine, which in no way can be called an "Update" to the base game. They lied to console players that they were also going to be able to play the Odyssey DLC in a live galaxy with other players, etc.
This crap they created, which cannot be called DLC, since it is not a complement to the base game and a mod or addon to the game engine, but a new engine that leaves out and restricts features of the base game Elite Dangerous, and even with its Horizon DLC, interfering with its normal operation, left without the feature of "Playing a live galaxy with other players and with the same requirements". Instead, they did not have the best idea at this stage to create a Legacy version excluding the game engine and the other versions from the feature of being able to play in a live galaxy with other players and that their actions could have influences on the live one, thus failing to comply with their main terms and conditions.
THE WORST OF ALL, WITH THIS DLC, IS THAT THEY DIRECTLY CANCELED IT ON CONSOLES, RIPPING OFF THOUSANDS OF USERS AND LEAVING THE DEAD LEGACY VERSION, BOTH WITHOUT UPDATES, BOTH FOR THE BASE GAME AND HORIZON, AND ABSOLUTELY BREAKING THEIR TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
Apparently these people do not understand or do not know how to distinguish what is a DLC, from a base game, from a full game with new engine and mix everything in the same concept that ends up making them pay the users in disgrace. Since no DLC can modify if deactivated or not, the main features of the base game, i.e. Elite Dangerous and Horizon, nor deactivate it, can modify the features of your other DLC. But, however, the Oddysey DLC does and throws the others overboard.
Of course, the deception that FDev do is to offer you a version of Horizon with the new graphic engine, but that leaves out for its high requirements all the other users of the previous versions, who can no longer play even with the main features of the game, this being a real scam, since it is only a DLC, supposedly a DLC, although it acts as if it were not and in reality is presented as a new game, with a new graphics engine that limits the features of the base game and the other DLC.
For that reason, they have not only annihilated with the console players and have insulted them in the face, they also annihilated with the DLC, although you can not call this crap DLC, with the players of the previous versions, that is, they killed the players of the base game, also of the Horizon DLC, they annihilated their own terms and conditions and want to force them to have to buy a better PC to play what is supposedly a DLC. Sure, if they want to continue playing with the features they were previously promised they were going to be able to play and now find that they are not.
I will not expose the egregious errors that the game and its graphics engine has, that instead of being fixed, with this new graphics engine and DLC, which does not act as DLC, but as a new game with a new graphics engine, which limits with the previous one. Because they are really many and very long to expose, as a lousy transition from one galaxy to another that seem two different and discordant animations, the atrocious when entering the planets that seems that the ship was paused and floating in the nothingness, kinetic bullets that go faster than the bullets of an energy sniper rifle, being that energy is equal to the speed of light, a sniper rifle that only have a zoom, like a common rifle, etc...
The misfortunes in this game is absolutely complete and worst of all, is that you do not know which way the Fdev team wants to go, finding every month with an unplanned whim of the Frontier team that evidently does not know which way they want to go. They have totally lost focus and no longer know how to distinguish what is a DLC, from a base game, from a full game, they have mixed it all up and created a salad full of errors and contrariness, which only serves to lose users on each platform that is offered, instead of adding them. The worst of all is that they don't care about the mistakes, nor do they care about fixing the atrocious path they have taken, they only care about a story.

@sallymorganmoore

Update 15 broke a fix from Update 4.
Update 4 Fix List

From Update 4 this fix has been reversed in the system map.
"MapUI - POIs are now sorted alphabetically."

Please get this bug reversed.

So I surfed the thread trying to find out if the correctional fix actually fixed the 'Cutter autodock drift' problem of the computer using only half of the available thrust strength and found mixed results. Has anyone gotten concrete info on this?

Nah, nothing is wrong with your install.

ahhh so steam shows the install as the full game size even if it only needs to run a quick CRC check or something? in which case i should have let it run then.
Thanks.

Steam was showing Elite in my download list but with no download size mentioned (I don't think I've ever seen a game do that before). I hit the button to start it, and found that it wants to validate 51.1 GB, but there is still no download size mentioned. I had failed to properly read the link mentioned above but I now guess that the Legacy version is about to be wiped...

Good grief. It completed the validation, wiped a crapton of files, decided that it had insufficient space to continue and then aborted. Having restarted it (because it does have enough space to continue), I'm now looking at a 47 GB download to repopulate the stuff that was wiped. (I've not yet found any option to install Legacy so I can only assume that the download is restoring Live back to a working state!?!?)
As far as I can see this behaviour does not remotely match what is described at the news article.
