2.1 generated very little interest on Steam. Player numbers still in the dirt.

Maybe you love the direction this game is going, but you are a small minority I think.

http://steamcharts.com/app/359320

3431 players playing elite on steam is a lot for a game like elite that is not suited for the genral audiance.
On top of that this number does not count :
Mac players
PC players who dont use steam
Xbox players

If elite pandered to the lowest common denominator then it would just become a dull instant gratification dumbed down game aimed at those who like the more casual games like NMS and COD

Ummm. Setting the graph to 1 month does show an uptick on the 28th OP. But I take your point - the numbers have quickly settled back to pre-horizons level, even with the price drop. :/

You certainly can't use steam to judge how many people are playing in absolute numbers, but I would be surprised if the fluctuations in the steam numbers don't match those from the rest of the players. From the more long term charts you can see that 2.1 spiked a bit of interest, which has now died down again to much the same as it was before release (roughly a week ago). It is also at around 30% of what the numbers where in September 2015. Make of that what you will :)

What purpose does this discussion have? "Hey devs, by the way, you're product allegedly ain't doing so well, thought you should know"

And just to throw it out there, ED is on page 5 of the top sellers list on steam. You know steam, the largest digital distribution platform on the planet? Yeah, that.

Everyone needs to take a couple of steps to the left.... The sky is falling.

Many of us, especially since the Alpha and closed Beta aren't on Steam.
So those numbers aren't totally accurate.
This may be prime time in the UK, but check again in five or six hours when prime time starts on this side of the world.

It may not effect it all that much, who knows.

Do you have numbers from Pre 2.1 to compare?
Just curious...

Those would be about the only numbers that mattered because it would tell us if the players who play on steam are playing more or less than they were, and it would still be dodgy, steam thinks I'm playing Elite when the launcher is running and it doesn't think I'm playing elite if I open the game independently.

Damn I'm not hip any more. Have to leave ED for good. Farewell fellow CMDRs.
Just kidding, I am only leaving for food :D

oh and btw, no ED running on steam here

True.
I wonder if FD will ever declare the player count at a given time. They have the real numbers.

It does not matter how much an individual may love this game, FD has a 10 year plan, to maintain that plan you have maintain backer confidence, if the numbers look bad, the backer confidence falls, in the end, it matters not how passionate an individual is about the game, if the numbers are not there, development eventually discontinues, don't know about anyone else, but I'd definitely want to be paid if I was a developer, can't pay out what you don't have.
