2.1 generated very little interest on Steam. Player numbers still in the dirt.

Plus to play Horizons on Steam you had to run your launcher from a shortcut rather than through Steam. Many people, including myself, still access the game that way which skews the numbers as Steam is unaware you are running it.

How is that? Genuine question. I can't seem to open Elite outside of Steam???

I do find it funny with STeam though - when it was announced it was going to steam the community was up in arms wants codes to transfer it across to steam

Pages and pages of threads , comments from FD Heirarchy, promises in newsloetters to placate the whingers

Wonder how many still use steam and how many are back to standalone

Steam DB has a lot more data than concurrent players. While the OP seems right about 2.1 not bringing more people, the game is still hovering at around 70-80k players per month. Also those are only the Steam stats.

It seems acceptable, but yeah, only FD has the real numbers. Still better than Evolve at least.

BOOOOOO! terrible post OP. Jumping to wild conclusions on a tiny amount of evidence that really says nothing about the current state of the game.

Don't take this the wrong way, but that means nothing, it's not in the game sales figures, that's what backers and future purchaser will be looking at, and if folk don't purchase the game, they obviously won't be doing micro-transaction either.
Maybe , but if they alienate there fanbase then that would just not work very well for them.
I trust FD wont ruin the game the pander to an audiance who does not care.

Because if they dumb the game down even more I am out , and I say this as a borderline fanatic of the franchise

I say that while it is not enough to jump to big conclusion, it can give a broad idea of the player base. Concurrent players is not really a good metric anyway since it can change depending if the players are spread a lot over different timezones. On Steam DB you go the Unique players metric which gives a better idea, and it has been stable at 70k-80k for a while now.

Maybe you love the direction this game is going, but you are a small minority I think.

Bigger Problem is.
The Engineers Update was Fairly Hyped.

So alot of these Additional Players come to Test out the Game and will flow out again.
And the Increase of Players being this low Means that alot of People are not giving it much testing before dropping it again.
So the Backlash Drop in the Numbers will be Horrible.

Hi everyone, I'm disgruntled.

Rather than express my opinion constructive with changes to the current state to make it more flexible, I'm going to avoid all that and the risk of being faced with the possibility my opinion is not universally absolute as the most significant opinion. That has now transcended being a opinion and become the fundamental law on the planet of what is good and needs to happen for perfection.

As such here are some random associations I'm going to throw around to illustrate not only my complete and utter ignorance of things beyond my own anus but also present to provide ill-refutable proof that I speak for what will make your game really successful for everyone, and not doing what I say and keeping me happy with kill your game.

Don't try to disagree, I have a much higher competency in ignorantly using things I don't understand the practical significance of in ways to just fit in with whatever I dictate.

The reality is, where they get the best profit, individual opinion, mine or your opinion is not important when it comes to business, it's about making a profit to keep going.

P.S I know FD will probably say individuals are important, but they'll still be 2nd priority to making a profit. also please note, this is not an attack on FD, business is business, you go where the money is.

You know, in the old days, when this "internet" thingy still was just some silly place for nerds and other morons, I had played a cool cyberpunk MUD (= Multi User Dungeon, something that was pretty much text based and was running on a server of a university nearby) and was posting in the usenet and was using MiRC for chat. This MUD had been played by around 50 people max at the same time - and boy, was this a cool place to be at that time. Imagine that - lots of crazy nerds at one place, all of them pretty full of crap and egos beyond of that what "ego" means today. And about those chat channels ... I just don't start to tell you about it.

But then came AOL, then the "big boom", then Facebook, than the iPhone, then CoD, then ... it all went to hell. The internet had become a common place for brainless trolls, cry babies, superficial relationships and suckers. And a few people who are (still) really cool. (I'm one of the brainless trolls, that's for sure). I'm happy every time for every cool guy/gal that appears, I want to hug him/her, offer him/her a beer and to pat him/her. They're still there and they give me hope.

Yes, I know that a few of you guys were already there before me. And I treated you like legends back then. I did, and I did it with conviction. Giants, I say, and I was standing on your shoulders. These were the times when being a SYS-OP still really meant something.

So ... what has this melancholic whiny crap to do with ED today? I don't know, I just like the idea that it's being played by people who care, who are fine persons with ideas, who have some social skills, who don't try to look cool by posting some incredible stupid bullcrap you can read on a gazillion other sites too. Under 10.000 players? So be it! But I think FD has some numbers that are more precise and I don't know, I think they're having a great time as long they can pay the bills. I try to be part of it for some unknown reason or because of a permanent brain damage. Life is so difficult sometimes.

:)

Not to mention if you use something like EDFX and got into the habit of launching the game via the EDFX launcher instead just so it's easier to make changes without having to open it up later anyway it completely bypasses Steam.

I dont think they would do that.
There goal is profit but elite is also a pasion project , a game that was kickstarted.
I think that they would sooner let the project die than ruin it for a mass audiance

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I know you really like the game and all but I would be extremely surprised if they decided to pull the plug over the chance of making more money out of it. In the end, profit is the goal.

These threads are pointless can we stop please!

Steam charts aren't a good indicator because a lot of players won't play through Steam as they take 10% of each transaction from Frontier. A lot of us are old skool veterans of Elite and Frontier II etc so we support Frontier Developments. The company is making money, the games being updated what do we need to worry about. If you want it to fail get lost we don't need negative attitudes effecting a project as big as this game. It's not finished either come back later or play World of Warcraft or pray for Scam Citizen.

I'd rather sit and enjoy the game than focus on who else is or isn't playing it. Elite is a hard as nails game it's not like others people will hate it that's their opinion and they are free to have it stop filling our forums with moans and groans.
