2.1 generated very little interest on Steam. Player numbers still in the dirt.

Not a huge amount of people playing/watching the game on Twitch either. However, I'm afraid the people on these forums won't really listen/don't really care.

The game has never really been popular on twitch, so I'm not sure there's a comparison. I bought the game on steam but then bought Horizons from the Frontier store and haven't used steam for it since. I'm sure numbers are down, but quite how you measure them I have no clue, but certainly not from Steam alone.

It does not matter how much an individual may love this game, FD has a 10 year plan, to maintain that plan you have maintain backer confidence, if the numbers look bad, the backer confidence falls, in the end, it matters not how passionate an individual is about the game, if the numbers are not there, development eventually discontinues, don't know about anyone else, but I'd definitely want to be paid if I was a developer, can't pay out what you don't have.
Those who love the game like me , and I think there are many of us will buy all sorts of stuff from the store.
I have nearly all the paintjobs and will get all the ship kits and clothing options when they are present. I belive that the optional cosmetic payments serve as a good incom solution (I do wish however that the paintjobs could be of higher quality)

Looks like a gain in players to me, (in green) but as many here have said, this is only a fraction of players, as many do not use steam, plus lots on xbox ect.
Steam charts are always dismissed as useless on this forum.

Maybe you love the direction this game is going, but you are a small minority I think.

They are a minority, but even a very vocal minority can drown out all opposition.

"I don't use steam, therefore steam numbers are irrelevant and not an indicator at all of player count"

lol

just let them sit in there echo chamber and just sit back and watch this game burn to the ground.

Well, many people I think buy ED thinking it is like X Beyond the Frontier or similar game, obviously they have no idea what ED is, otherwise there would not be that many negative reviews, Steam is not exactly the place where ED can fully be appreciated, many there like arcadish games or adventures with a story line , ED has no storyline or a path to follow, it can be confusing to Steam users who wants the Game to guide them and tell them what to do, people are not used to games where you do what you like without any restriction, also X Beyond the Frontier sucks so those coming from it are avoid ED thinking it's similar to it when it's not, also many ED reviews on Steam point out the chances you are interdicted while trading are too high which is not correct in my opinion, interdictions are just right, players just have to find a better strategy to avoid them, I have already learned tricks to avoid them, many people just can't adapt and go to forums and post negative reviews...

However I'm not worried about negative reviews on Steam, It says overall reviews are Mixed so there are a lot of positive reviews as well, there are games that are full negative or Mixed even from bigger companies, still they sell like crazy on Steam, I'm not worried about sales either, the number of players playing ED on Steam are still high and if you look at the graph, it just ends on a declining number of players but if you look at the graph of the last 3 months or 6 months you notice it's still on average level and maybe will increase later on...

I don't understand this kind of post, you are just spreading negativity without offering a solution.

I don't have a single friend that bought the game through steam that actually plays it through steam. Find an overall player count and then we can talk

And it doesn't matter what the majority or the minority thinks. This isn't our game, its frontiers game.

Looking at my sites google analytics the numbers are about the same as from before 2.1 hit. Averaging out at about 25K unique users a month which is down a lot from release when it was 1.2 million but with so many alternative sites for trade data now and general player burn out that's to be expected. There's been a bit of a spike now with the xbox release so this next months figures should be informative.

Don't take this the wrong way, but that means nothing, it's not in the game sales figures, that's what backers and future purchaser will be looking at, and if folk don't purchase the game, they obviously won't be doing micro-transaction either.

The steam release was late to the party, I suspect most who wanted Elite Dangerous, bought it well before steam was an option.

Also, the thing with Elite is.. that sometimes.. you just want to take a break, since its a never ending game. I'm only recently back from a loooong break myself, reinvigorated ;)

Edit: Also, I have it installed via steam, but launch it standalone, so as far as steam is concerned, I'm not playing.

But if there are many who don't use the steam client to log in then those many people are not registered on said steam client meaning that the steam numbers are misleading .....

. steam.

The majority on this forum dont care about Steam Charts. :)
Plus to play Horizons on Steam you had to run your launcher from a shortcut rather than through Steam. Many people, including myself, still access the game that way which skews the numbers as Steam is unaware you are running it.

Steam playe rnumbers doubled and a bit since engineers... I came back from hybernation so did 7 of my friends... you are disillusional if you think the minority of crybabies on Forums represent more than 5% of the actual Population that never Posts cause they are busy having fun!

Game is going in the right direction and the dev Team is doing a great Job!
