Rubbish your point is irreverent one player can only select any option once so the fact remains only 24% pressed -It should be instant- introducing a feature with only 24% support is inept at best. Instant was a popularity grab that lacks one vital ingredient it is not popular.
There is no upside to this for Frontier in any way, shape or form.

As far as the lore aspect is concerned i would only say this, if I wanted to play a fantasy game I would have bought one, Frontier have an obligation to keep Elite as simulation like as possible/practical otherwise i feel they have taken my money under false pretenses.[sour]

No no no no no no no. I'm actually sorry about this but unfortunately this is incorrect. Frontier isn't obligated to do anything. They can shut down the server tomorrow, refuse to release the code and have you completely out of a game. This is the sort of thinking that gets you into this upset state that many of you are in to begin with. You may feel that giving them money obligates them, but it is simply not correct. The consumer only consumes, not dictates. Everything about their product is ultimately up to them, even if it causes their demise.

Once again Shar, we are only the vocal minority and only <insert percentage> of that vocal minority pulled from this specific website support what it is you support.

The most recent 'minor deception' in my opinion was in one of his Games Con interviews.
He mentioned that they added lots of dust to the galaxy to make it scientifically accurate..... Yes, they did, no reason to doubt it.
Then he says that you can see that dust in the game....No, that is not why we have space dust moving past us in space, never was that reason. It was originally for seeing movement.

hold on, are you sure he meant the stuff that lets us gauge movement? Sounds to me he means how you can see the dust when jumping system to system or viewing the galaxy map.

In a pure sence you are correct, but it does not work like that in the real world but don't take my word for it wait for the Announcement.

No point us arguing about it, the debate has been had, the points all made, lets now chill out and watch the fallout.

Is there an echo were you are or is the N and O keys on your keyboard sticking.

Can't say I'm overly happy with the decision as I feel it may cheapen the whole elite experience. We'll just have to see how it actually plays out in beta though.

Wait N' see I guess.

Not hyperbole

I roleplay this game, when major changes, and yes this will be a major change, it messes with my "reality".
Yes Frontier have been bi-polar on many aspects of the game regarding in-game lore, 3d-printed drones is a stretch as well as things like galaxy wide Galnet news, RNG Engineers etc.
Most of these can be hand waved because although they are a stretch they still fit within the framework of the game.

So if teleportation is a thing, why not just teleport ourselves around the bubble and galaxy, why not teleport cargo?

It's a game and convenient because the lead designer says so.

In the end I'll have to deal with it in this way.
"I reject your reality and substitute my own."

There has been plenty of panic and hyperbole. If you understand what those terms mean and do not apply to you, then by all means don't apply them to yourself. If our bodies can repair from debilitating infectious disease, why can they not regenerate lost limbs? There are a not of why nots, but ifs, if thens, and because I saids, if you begin to question all of them you will find yourself with no time to live, let alone play a video game.

See, I like that you've expressed your distaste but yet allow yourself to continue the experience.

Don't confuse hyperbole with the ability to project forward a set of circumstances to a predicted result and being disturbed by said result. The same way you do not go out on to the street and walk in front of a bus.

What do you mean it doesn't work like that in the real world? I wouldn't have brought it up if it didn't. There is a reason why terms of service, end user license agreements, etc exist. To protect the service provider from anything you may feel that they are obligated to provide. By buying and playing Elite Dangerous, you subscribe to a service that they reserve the right to change or terminate at their leisure. As a consumer, you reserve the right to unsubscribe from that service and nothing more unless you can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they have committed fraud or otherwise dubious actions. This does not include adding a feature that you do not approve of.

There was a little bit of an echo, as I live in my parents basement, which happens to be a cavern that is full of interesting mushrooms and goblins that insist on taking anything that resembles a golden trinket.

I don't believe in fortune telling. I control my destiny. [hehe]

You make more sense to me now, i don't blame you, i understand it's not your fault.

I just put someone on ignore. That is a first for me.

This thread reads a lot better now.

Night All. I'll sleep better now.

Hey, it's your prerogative to assume my intelligence based on my opinion compared to yours, but I will say that you do miss out on interesting people and information if you close your mind to different ideas and ways of thinking.

He is young in a basement with mushrooms, we should encourage him it's the right thing too do.

Stop stressing your opinions are as valid as everyone else and as far as i,m concerned just as valid just don't expect me to agree with them.

Peace.

I will as soon as the rest of you do the same. I've spent the last 2 years of my forum life here being told "my opinion is valid and yours isn't". This is just how forums work at the end of the day, at least these days. It can't always end with "I don't agree but I appreciate what you said" can it?

Perspective can be as unique as humans themselves, it is always easy to categorize people, but this is a failing. so for my part sorry.

I understand your opinion but i do not agree. :)

If someone handed you a gun and said, you have 2 options, shoot yourself or put the gun down and walk away. What would you do? The gun was there, you were given an option to use it or not. Argue it's not a relevant argument, but this is how you are acting.

Actually a closer analogy would be.... you are entering a race at the Olympics. All anti drug laws have been removed. You do not have to use them but everyone else will be. You feel using them will cheapen the experience . You have 3 options use them, don't use them or just walk away.

Those who do not care about competing in the bgs or who do not play in open will be less affected but still .. if in a group 4 meet up 3 using magic to get together the 4th kind of has to. A bit like 10 people going to a pub 5 are smokers so everyone goes to the smoking pub

For Frontier there's a clear upside. Instant is much easier because you are still in the same screen. You can just code it down and ready. The timer concept needs some more thinking
and making it an Asynchroneous transaction. Because you are to be able to do something different in the mean time. Instant can be realized by client code only. Timed transport will
involve servers and save games. From this I can understand FD to try the cheap way.
I strongly believe they are surprised by the force of resistance against this plan and take the consequences.

Regards,
Miklos

Just a small note regards Braben apparently riding in to solve the situation?

Good cop, bad cop. Sandro has to wear the flack for delivering the game, and often has to cop it on the chin; I don't always agree with why he does what he does; but ultimately it's his butt on the line, not mine. Guy has developed a thick skin and I can see why. Braben is the good cop. The guy with the ideals and grand vision.

Ultimately? They are a small game studio selling a game and the only way they can continue is to ensure the grand ideals don't get in the way of the deliverables. It's not as black and white as it seems. It's never been that way. To presume one does not really know what the other is doing, is to miss the point. Braben's name is on this too.

This is what the entire company has decided to deliver; it's not just one person.

So we get instant travel and I shall use the heck out of it because why not; they want me to. So I will. And I'll remind myself this isn't a simulator, it's a space adventure, with only the depth that that requires.
