Ah the inevitable megathread. The trash bin of the forum. Where all useful thoughts, suggestions and feedback are buried under pages and pages of noise just so the mods have an excuse to keep the main page of Dangerously Deranged Discussions "tidy".

My big concern is the idea that I could be helping somone out by flying their fighter, but if they die I end up helping reimburse the loss. It means small ship pilots like myself have less incentive to take part in this feature because we dont have the 48 billion plus credits for rebuy that the sort of ships that will benefit from this update the most require you to have as a reserve.

* Do not explain the instant-drop-in-drop-out multi-crew in the lore. Not "telepresence" or anything else. Just let it be. It is for convenience and beyond the 4th wall, some things are better off ignored entirely by the lore (like the cut in a movie that skips ahead).

..edit...

^^ Strongly agree with this. There is no reason to try and make multicrew squeeze into lore, just let it rest in the same category as the "instant teleportation on death" mechanic.

No explanation is needed, let people headcannon it as unseen shuttle travel or telepresence if they wish.

Issue with one particular instance of griefing, such as UA bombing, BGS manipulation or PG infiltration where all the OP's are saying the singing off the same hymn sheet? Totally allowed.
Multiple threads discussing different facets of a big update, mostly in a negative light? Put it all in that one thread and hope no-one notices a bit of people regarding the devs concepts in a negative light.

I'm also curious about this myself. That said, it may discourage griefing if implemented correctly. One might be less likely to grief and shoot the station if it costs them 32 million credits.

That's a different story, and something we will have to wait and see on.

As long as pips don't increase the maximum number of pips,I don't see any problem. It only means you won't need to take everything off one susbsystem to max out another and leave the third on average or above.

Seriously Repped.

I'm a dirty casual lone wolf, and while I understand the reasoning for implementing the insta-join, it still leaves a strange taste in my mouth, it tastes like "dumbing-down".
It's a taste I first encountered when FD made the decision to have the 3 majors reputation rise/lower when players are offline.

For the insta teleportation, they can actually generate a mission in a way that everytime matchmaking is finished the game may guide all players to a single station in a single system to be able to initiate the multi-crew which will restore immersion and also can create a new sense of challenge so that usage of multi-crew function is something to be worked for.

What's your opinion on the magic pips created when someone joins your crew?
From what we know so far it looks like a bad idea waiting to happen especially in combination with the proposed 360° turret view mode which allows for missiles to lock on and fire from every angle of the crewed ship.

Very interested to see how/if this will make it past beta.

This^^

Cease pandering to the casuals FD, you're dumping on Elite's legacy here. CEASE!

Tis a bit telling of the type of commandments that were handed out from the leadership isn't it?

Yes, it exposes them to instant travel exploration.

And I still contend they weren't likely to make the trip previously. I've watched twitch live streams of people going places like Sag A*, which is arguably similar to multicrew exploring, and I still went on my own because I wanted to make the trip. Yet another person may see it and say "I don't get why you flew hours and hours just to see this, boring as f".

A few have commented that multicrew has little to offer traders or explorers, so I wanted to suggest a couple of possible uses for the gunner role. As described by the devs, this will give the cmdr using it more or less a 360 degree view outside, that can be used to target ships outside with turrets or missiles. This 360 degree view could also be useful for traders and explorers if different, non-offensive modes were added to it:

1. Focused shielding: the cmdr at the gunner's station controls the position of a shield "sweet spot" that is much stronger than the rest of the shield but is only about 10 degrees wide. The idea is that a trader or explorer can use that to more effectively deflect incoming fire like a warrior deflecting arrows. It would also benefit smaller ships that aren't as likely to use turrets but could use some extra defense.

2. Telescope: the commander at the gunner's station can zoom in the view (or a small part of it) to help when looking for interesting things in space or on the ground. It is important that this zooming be something that can be changed so that the observer can switch between scanning a wide area and a small one.

What's stopping me from buying 2 more copies of elite and playing on low settings on my other computers in my house and get a buff to my ship?

Here's another q:
Let's say I'm in combat, losing. I decide to join another CMDR on his/her ship (worked out beforehand with other CMDR).
Guess I'm *poof* gone from battle?

I like it, it keeps all the whinging in one place. Forum then stays useable and we don't have thread after thread of the same old. [up]
