That's really what should be taken away from it. The inconsistencies are adding up though. I'm not ultimately going to let it bother me too much, but there will always be a bit of a question mark on many things and I will certainly understand why people might be bothered.

That's a fair enough response. If I'm going to be completely honest here I don't think this really has to do with immersion, or at least it doesn't have to do with that term. Immersion is being able to put yourself into the game and feel like you're actually there, which even with the telepresence explanation this game could do. It has to do more so with understanding of how that technology works in the universe.

For instance if I were to hand my grandfather my phone and show him it can control his house by speaking to it it would be like magic to him. He has never had internet or anything techy really; but him not understanding how the technology works doesn't make it not real to him because I gave him a basic explanation; when you talk to the phone it understands, sends a signal to the correct device depending on what you told it to do, and then that device does what you said. He can understand that, despite not knowing the exact details of how it works, he just knows what it does and that doesn't shatter his reality.

What people here want is more so an in-depth explanation as to how and why it'll work in the ED universe and to be honest not everyone is told how everything works. I doubt any of us have an in-depth understanding of how the internet works or sends signals or how they are carried and what they can and cant do, but we have a basic understanding and that works for us.

I feel like the basic understanding is what people are going to have to settle with here until FDev really want to promote their lore and delve into the science behind it and the tech that makes it all possible, and not just with telepresence, but everything. That day, if it'll even happen, is most likely incredibly far off though.

No, you may want to take a use of those legs. Can't? Weeel, I guess they aren't legs, then.

No, "You" are your ship.

It's not an FPS with spaceships like Star Citizen. You are your ship. And if you didn't want to fly it, then don't play the game. Simples.

I'm really looking forward to walking around when ' Space Legs' is introduced. Being a space pilot is awesome!

The inconsistencies are adding up though.
Inconsistencies? We still deliver fish to gain military ranks for pity's sake... I wish they's sort these fundamental issues out as a priority.
Make military missions a headline feature for a 2.x release.

No, no. We are sitting in the SRV! But we don't get out of the seat and into the turret. :) We control the turret through telepresence.

The SRV turret uses telepresence. Not the SRV itself...

But we are not sitting in the srv. We are in our ships, safely (unless our ship gets destroyed and then we are stuck in the srv but if the srv gets destroyed we are back on our ship). Hmmm, perhaps it's both. Very odd. The argument of the avatar doesn't work though. You will notice that if you take an SLF out for a spin, your avatar is then in the SLF and no longer in the captains seat at the mothership. In fact, even with your hired NPC manning the helm, there is no one sitting there.

And this is my issue as well. The continued inconsistencies. Why can't I telepresence to any of my parked ships and fly them, why can't I dismiss the mothership while in a SLF if telepresence doesn't have a range limit. And that is just the beginning. Things like instant rebirth, cargo, restock etc and the rest is a convenience fo gameplay reasons.

So if winging up for Multicrew you have telepresence for convenience, when I wing up a ship with another ship, why can't I have my ship teleported over their for convenience. Otherwise I am just wasting my time flying the ship their myself.

When does it end. Why cant I transport from station to station, because its more convenient and it slows down my credit making if I have to fly.

I know, that those examples are not going to happen, but for me, they are just as valid.

Are you agreeing me or trying to argue something opposite of what I was saying? Seems like you are pointing out something I was referring to...

While you may not be able to get up yet, you are definitely the avatar in your ship. This is why the avatar follows your commands closely in order to control the ship. This is why when you look around, you do so from within the cockpit.

Not entirely sure where you're going with all this. I didn't say it was pointless and that they shouldn't try merely that im disappointed they didn't do anything more creative than adding a third person shooter element.
Also I fail to see how giving a ship the ability to increase resistance in the direction enemy fire is coming from is a cheap gimmick. Or allowing the pilot to not have to worry about repairing modules and just keep focusing on flying.

And I never said any of that about you. I said about what you said is:

"All you've described, though, is cheap gimmick."

So I don't know what you're reading, but you're not reading what I wrote if your accusation is indicative of it. All I'm saying is that you gave a cheap gimmick as an option. 60 pges of rage against a cheap gimmick of instaport to engage in Multi-crew. It's fairly clear that your advice was entirely pointless to an apparently massive (or at least loud) segment of the people playing the game.

Therefore for your point to be of any use whatsoever, you need something more than what even you admit is a cheap gimmick. FDev can't do anything with your suggestion. And if you complain that you're not listened to, that would be your problem for giving only cheap gimmicks that have already proven unpopular on this thread.

So would I. However, as SC are finding out with their current state of game, except for the FPS alpha release sub-game, walking around gets boring real quick.

But SC have made their game about "you", and you sit in a cockpit to fly a ship, or walk on the floor to march around stations (to invade) or spacewalk to nick stuff from a wreckage. The game was designed that way.

Elite is designed around the ship. Not the pilot flying it. "You" to the game is the ship.

And even with space legs, that design will remain.

It's a little like a wargame strategy sim with cavalry. When the horse dies, the cavalryman isn't there any more. The man IS his horse. He's not even infantry.

Because the game isn't set that way.

Still.

Any more than that and you're, just like before, able to come up with a reason. Or take mine. I would repeat them, but if you still don't remember them, you weren't willing to, so it'd be rather pointless.

If the game is giving you grief because it's not making sense to you, I would suggest not getting so worked up by a work of fiction, and take a chill pill.

Seriously, all of you, why so stressed about "How does this happen???" in a game. By so obsessing, you can only destroy any credibility you have for any points made elsewhere.

Until they explain what happens to the eliminatory waste and how you feed yourself (and when you sleep), how will you be able to play the game again?!?!?

When does it end.

At the "winging up for Multicrew " step.

sorry I posted a bit quickly and the 2nd half of the post meant to add that they need to sort the fundamental issues/inconsistencies out too. (like military ranks but still no military missions)

You don't.

In Elite, "You" are your ship. SC has "You" as the one sitting in the ship. In X, you don't even see "You", because you are an empire spanning many sectors and just happen to be sitting all of the time in a ship.

No. If you don't want to fly your ship, you should not have bougth a game where you fly your ship. You can go buy a new ship and remote sell the old one if you want a different ship where you are.

Every single person who voted AGAINST immediate ship transfer should have ALL OF the following added irrevocably to their game:

-30 Second wait time for docking clearance
-20 second Full stop in space for ship scan, PRIOR to entering a station.
-2 minute wait time for refuel, plus/minus RNG seconds per ton of fuel, to immersion/realism
-5 minute delay to offload cargo
-5 minute delay to load cargo
-5 minute delay to take on/debark passengers
-30 second wait time for departure clearance
-10 second wait time for coupling/decoupling at docks
-Mandatory pre-flight check before EVERY SINGLE TAKEOFF, ever.

You wanted your immersion. Fine. Have it. ALL OF IT.

Why. That stops from playing the game. You can still play the game and do stuff while your ship is in transit. Two totally different scenarios, so please get over it.

So gameplay trumps reality, then. Instant fuel? Sure, I mean, it's not as if it's non immersive, right? Loading your ship with 32 tons, with a press of a button. Maybe they are telepresent. Not immersive, though, so gameplay! Fitting new engines? Hah! Of course they just wheel in and need no fitting. Heck, it's just a couplea hits with a spanner, I'm sure!

But if there's no reason to have people TP onto fixed crewmember seats in Multi-play, then, well, ALL the bets are just OFF, THIS IS A MOCKERY!!!

That was sarcasm.

You missed his point.

Quite badly.

Well said! Second Life in space, all you need to add to that list is toilet mechanics and a drink mixing minigame.

Rember when docking clamp release waits and station lift speeds were all arbitrarily long and frustrating?

Remember when station drop out distances were needlessly long and took you quite a while to cover the distance in normal flight?

Frontier have been streamlining all this stuff for two years, and here's a very small contingent asking for regression.

Is this you neither confirming or denying genital size slider?

[big grin]

I remember that being a feature of character creators, since as far back as at least 'Saints Row 3', if not perhaps earlier. It's typically a 'sex appeal' slider which dictates crotch or cleavage size, depending on the gender.

So, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see it here, either.

Frontier used the word telepresence before the SLF came along. It's was used to explain how we control the SRV turret and get the first person perspective from it.

Seriously? Sounds like they were over-complicating it! I just assumed it was a periscope (or as they're now termed, 'optical mast') in front of the pilot.

No. I wont just get over it.

If you want immersion, fine. Have it. But dont pick and choose. Either lets Immersion, or not.

Its funny. Everyone is all for immersion, when it keeps players with limited free time from participating in things to the degree that those who live in Elite are able to do. But when its convenient even for those who already use Elite as a second life, then hey, forget immersion. Lets go with convenience.

Funny how that works...

Exactly. I just wish these people were forced into a Full Immersion variant. You asked for it, you got it. Maybe then they would understand how inconvenient and frankly unfun they make the game for those with limited play time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ship transfer was voted to have timed stransfer to avoid folks flying in Asps around and summon their FDLs on demand circumventing the very idea that some ships have been designed to have low jumprange.
It has nothing to do with immersion, only practical gameplay.
