News 2.3 Dev Update

Well hang on a mo, you're making the claim "I feel sorry for the solo in open players your galaxy is about to become very unfair."

But how?? I can't see it.

I mean you play only in solo but you are saying open is going to become a pretty unpleasant place for a lone CMDR?

But I can't see how, I mean how is that going to happen? You don't even play in open, how are you even in a position to judge?

Or is it just the standard melodrama, trying to conjure up imaginary issues out of nothing?

Yes, well i'll put it to you this way, i dont like the taste of onions should i have to explain why. It's my opinion formed by me your not supposed to feel the same way. there are no facts here just my impression of what up. so stop trying to figure it out just take it as it is.

It's the three psycho griefers in each (of three) corvettes that I'm worried about! lol

Thats true, but now they can beam in extra phycos from the other side of the galaxy. at least with 3 corvettes you knew were you stood. But seriously enjoy the new update am sure it will be interesting just not my cup of tea if i,m allowed to have a cup of tea or an opinion Mr bitstorm.

Beta is soon where things can be assessed and tweaks made if required :

- Perhaps a player is made aware if they are facing multiple players in a ship
- So what if the ship you are facing suddenly gets an extra pip? (open will become a very unfair place??)
- You are facing two griefers, how is two griefers in a single ship not better than two in two ships?
- Perhaps you can't swap in/out mid combat anyway?

It's just it's all the usual sky is falling doom and gloom - no-one's even tried it yet.

Besides the debate between "don't (want to?) have time for a game in a vast universe" and "immersion first". What about the option to let other people take over the helm?

Would you let your stoner friend drive your new expensive car without insurance?
In my opinion everybody who can afford to re-buy the ship should be able to fly it. You have to make a security deposit in advance and wait for the permission of the ships owner to take over. If you ram the ship in a station for the lulz your security deposit is gone and next time your friends will think twice before letting you take over the helm again. The owner should always be able re-take the helm.

Regarding rewards, tripling bounty rewards and vouchers is well imbalanced. Pay three time the money for the same work. Because the three people earning it have less to do?
Rewards should be split by the captain (ships owner) or shared equally among the crew.

There is another issue with the suggested reward system. As i understand it will be possible to park my ship in a station, zap into a multi-crew session, earn some vouchers, zap back to my ship, sell the vouchers, zap back into action ...?
Finally another time sink gone. To bad for all the helmsman who have to fly back to sell vouchers. But i am hoping for ship teleportation back to the last station without loosing vouchers.

It's going to get hairy, that (IS) for sure. AKA. .. I definitely do, take your point. I think the beaming side of it won't really affect if you're on the receiving end though, as it's still a Corvette from the outside and I don't think Corvettes can carry but now imagine, 2 fighters, each griefer. Holy Monkey!

I'm not of the opinion personally that sidewinder versus federal gunship etc., is EVER going to be a 'balanced' exchange as such but it's certainly going to up the stakes danger-wise. I think that's for the good actually (on the Klingon Credo; Make my enemy strong such that I gain honour) and I'm not going hard on the telepresence mechanic either, Bell's Theorem (quantum tangles) is pretty interesting reading.

Yes, because as we all know, once it goes Live the Devs will do everything in their power to change, fix or remove a feature that Players dont like.
Happens all the time /eyeroll

Making doom and gloom out of my measured opinion is a bit of an exageration. I would say IF this feature is to your liking i,m very happy for you. I am also happy that it will have no effect on my solo play. so it's a win-win or to be more scientific its a non zero sum game. now does that sound like doom and gloom.

I think I am what you would call a solo player in open. I do meet up with friends once a week for fighter club but for the rest of the time I'm off on my own doing my own thing, in open, in a non engineered ship and in popular systems. I can't say it causes me any problems. I'm not worried about multi crew. Infact I'm looking forward to it. I will get to give it a go once a week or so :)

Well a least with this one it will only be the open community involved so things should go smoother maybe. Will be interesting to see how fracturous the open community is with the Soloists staying out of it.

As a Solo in Solo only player i'm not too fussed with 2.3, i hope the character creater is high quality and it would be really nice if we can a least get our NPC fighter pilot sitting in the cockpit and maybe some bugfixers would be nice.

If the second pilot can't handle the navigation for me then this whole "multi crew" feature is useless for me as an explorer...
Waste of development time....

Well it helps if people can justify their dislike with something solid doesn't it.

This and the update prior seems to do nothing but make larger ships more powerful. Those of us using smaller ships have seen nothing new lately and have been put at a drastic disadvantage. Unless you aspire to have a huge ship, there is no longer anything here for you. I deleted ED a few weeks ago, just wanted to say my piece.

There's no such thing as the "open community", were all a just a bunch of independent people with our own views.

It's like talking about the "people who leave the house" community, or the "people who work outdoors" community.... there's no such thing.

This happens to be true but wouldn't think for a minute it's why 2.3 will be multiplayer (and why 2.2 was engineers). Engineers added floating stats to modules. Could develop into a cascading damage model (for eg.) and multiplayer starts to separate the player avatar from the ship. At the moment you are the ship, more or less.

I still enjoy bombing my imperial eagle around (knobbling vipers, cobras etc.) while these huge and deadly ships present a constant and ever present danger. Each to their own I suppose but iEagle has never been much of a match for Anaconda, so imo makes no difference if Anaconda is 'more dangerous' .. already dangerous!!?

I think there's a fundamental misunderstanding with this.

You think in terms of ships rather than players.

Sure yes I agree that an Anaconda you meet will have a bump in power if crewed.

But if that ship is crewed by 3 people then comparing 1 Conda with 3 crew is not a "right" comparison against 1 Conda with 1 crew.

You are facing 3 people and those 3 people can engage you in a number of ways.

And from what weve seen, I think 3 players in 3 separate ships would completely outclass 3 players in one ship.

Or to put it another way, facing a player in a Conda, their ship has had no increase in power at all.

However if you are facing two players, multicrewing against you would likely be the worst choice from the point of view of outgunning you.

Whether or not three PC ships are more powerful than one PC ship with three crew, the fact remains that one ship shouldn't get extra power (increase in overall pips) through multi-crew. Nor should the game compound the error it made with Engineers, and make the disparity between big and small ships even worse.

Having said that Shar's probably right - we probably shouldn't worry about being out-classed multi-crewed ships - there's no way the instancing is going to keep crew together for any period of time. :D "Gunner! Fire for effect! ... ... Gunner? ... ... Gunner? ... Where the Hell did he go", Meanwhile in an 'alternate' reality, the gunner can still see the pilot, but can't actually inter... Error! Could not communicate with the Transaction Server.

*Edit* Hang on!?! That post just made me 'Elite' on the forums. Damn. Now I wish I'd been more positive, or said something inspirational. :(

But why?

The ONLY reason a small ship being less powerful than a large ship is an issue is because it means one player is subsequently superior to another because of the ship they are in. Because an Eagle CMDR can't do Jack against a Corvette CMDR, THAT's the imbalance, and that's the root issue behind ship imbalance.

A ship imbalance in itself is irrelevant without taking the crew count into account because that crew have a more powerful option anyway, that being fly as a standard wing.

Complaining a big ship is now more powerful with 2 players feels a bit like not being able to see the wood for the trees to me.

I don't understand this thought of "hey let's be friends and play this game together but be on the opposite side of the galaxy from eachother."
If people are playing the game, forming wings, wouldn't they already be nearby? There shouldn't be a need for the teleporting.

In the case of forming up with strangers, certainly there are popular hubs around the galaxy people gather around where potential crew can be found.

Frankly, reading the roadmap and how realistic, deep, and nuanced the game is I'm disappointed that they're going this route.

There are plenty of people out exploring, or at Sothis, or Draconis, or deep in the territory of another power, these people have friends too.

There is no reason to expect people would stay near their friends all the time.

In a game where you can travel literally across the galaxy I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest one of your friends might be 5 hours away, or even just 30 mins away.
