News 2.3 Dev Update

This dev update really shows why FD should have gone for 'space legs' before implementing multicrew.
With walking around we could have had things like damage control or ship boarding.

I hoped we would have gotten things like directional shields, so that one player could switch shield strenght to different parts of the ship.
Outside of combat it would have been nice to see a role of navigator, with access to the galaxy map and the ability to set destinations.

It's all combat and ease of access I read. I didn't back this game for ease of access. I backed it for space exploration and adventure.
So much potential.

Yet another question .. (sorry if it's been addressed already) with the 360 view for turret operators, does this mean that underside turrets will be able to fire through the ship?

As in, will this mean that no matter where the turret is placed it can fire anywhere?

Oh god yes this! I spend my time hiding on the turret-free side of bigger ships.

I really hate to be "that person", but this Headline Feature is completely underwhelming to me. The Multi-crew roles feel horribly limited, the level of handwavium involved in the process of "crewing up" is too much, & the lack of ongoing consequences for criminal acts (as I understand it) further undermines the already lacklustre C&P system in this game. Maybe when multi crew is more meaningful-both in & out of combat-& when we can hire NPC's to fill hose roles, then I will be interested. For now it just sounds like something for the CQC/Arena crowd.

Now if they gave us achievement badges and decals for say Playing every slot, and being crew on at least 10 ships...oh, and a button to share our achievements on social media...

"Multicrew is about having fun with friends, so we want to make sure there are as few barriers to enjoying this feature as possible"

So can a horizon player invite a none horizon player as a crew member?

I would really like that helm could swap also just like all the other roles.
When doing mining with friends and one trip takes several hours, it would be nice change if you could take turns who is doing the most work (piloting the ship). Maybe that would do in other activities also ? Ship owner should have possibility to force swap role back to helm at any time.

Oh and any change outfitting SLFs ? Would like to equip one with prospector limpets..

How does the credits divide between crew members when selling commodities or doing missions ?

Its looking really great update, looking forward !

That's a good point, is this Horizon's only content?

No , because multicrew is a horizon feature.

You cant invite a friend to the cinema if he/she has not paid or you did not for them

Well Frontier made the decision to make an online only multiplayer game with the addition of a solitary PvE only mode. They gotta do what they gotta do to make that work, I don't begrudge them that. It's the game I chose to buy after all.

I just dislike how updates like Engineers and now Multi-Crew come along and totally obliterate combat balance and then we spend half a year sorting through the mess that makes when much of the impact could be mitigated by simply not adding such extremes in updates. Like this outline of multi-crew basically makes a joke out of everything to do with combat in the game - God mode enabled immortality boats basically making everything else obsolete. Go multi crew every time you log on or go home.

I didn't buy this game to be a deck swab. I bought it to be the pilot of my own ship, which with multi-crew now means I am going to get eaten for breakfast by all player crewed single ships. Wow... At least against a wing it makes sense why I wouldn't be able to win but now because the ship I'm facing might have God mode enabled... jeez.

Welcome to Solo mode :)

+1 because it seems people lost in translation that commander of the ship will still own that crime in hard way. Players will have option to bow out if they think they were tricked into situation - but will lose all "progress" - effectively cancelling their MC session.

See, I'm not sure that the crime or credits will apply only to crew members...doesn't make much sense to apply only to one, but not the other...if the purpose is to make people want to crew without risk, surely they want to encourage people to take on crew without risk as well?

They got ship launched fighters and passenger missions.

The only horizons only content is landing on planets, engineers and the beluga.

Don't hold your breath... Considering non Horizons players have the additional seats in their ships, taunting them since the 2014 release, I'd consider it a bit of a male genitalia move to not let them crew up. But Frontiers agenda will unsurprisingly be to sell Horizons.

I sincerely hope this doesn't mean that we'll be getting 3rd person combat... that could be game breaking.

Doesn't sound like combat usage to me. Considering how much emphasis ED puts on radar I doubt that.

Multicrew is and always have been Horizons feature.

When joining a crew, a Commander will log out of their current vessel and transfer to the multicrew vessel, regardless of distance. They can also leave at any time (or be evicted by the ship’s owner) at which point they can return to where their ship was last, making the whole affair a very friendly, drop in – drop out procedure.

Glad to see that this approach has been taken - I sort of expected it (as a compromise between utility and lore). :)

Very much looking forward to the Beta - a Type 9 with manually targeted turrets, an SLF and 8 pips to play with should be "interesting"! :D

So basically there's no difference between this and Wings and you are outraged again exactly?
Wings isn't instant handwavium God mode and I get to pilot my own ship while in a wing with friends. There's a difference.

Losing to a wing: hey they outnumbered me.

Losing to a single ship granted uber mode simply for putting butts on seats: not cool.

Fighters are Horizons only feature. Passengers are for everyone.

But multicrew has always been touted as Horizons only. Expecting otherwise is a bit stupid.
