News 2.3 Dev Update

We didn't even make it past the first reply before the "mah immurshun" crowd was already complaining.

I'm glad that they've decided to put gameplay first this time (though there is still plenty of time for them to cave like they did with ship transfers) and not cater to the crowd that would rather we need to schedule multi-crew gameplay weeks in advance just to make it work.

Oh yeah, how *dare* we want something that isn't just an arcade game!!! You're just salty 'cause we won the ship transfer debate.

The more I look at how this has been described the more I'm wondering why this is a main game feature?

If you just want to provide fun arcadey combat action for friends to play together why isn't Arena getting fixed up with all ships and loadouts available so people cna just meet up and have fun and not worry about rebuys?

Is it only possible to have PvP fun where there are unwilling participants?

Submit, boost, 4 pips to systems, high wake out. It's not hard.

Nobody argues it's hard - the question is IS IT FUN for the majority of players?

Its just semantics, call it the major feature of the release if you want. It's the same really.

I will explain powereleveling. One guy does all the work in stacked CZ missions while his buddies are afk getting zillions of credits.

I hope I'm totally wrong on everything, though. I really do.

It is not semantics, list of changes are way bigger than we know at this point.

And as I said most likely it will be easily detectable if commander contributes to kills or not, same as with wings. If not, no bounties = no credits.

Hmm this sounds good, but what happened to the talked about engineering role? One feature a lot of people assumed and wanted was the ability to divert shield power to different areas and also to repair the ship. Looks like this has been replaced with fighter con.. That functionality is already there so seems like an easy way out unfortunately.

Thanks FDEV!!!

This is looking like some pretty awesome stuff that you will be able to expand on in the future if desired.

I think everyone that's unhappy with it should either:

A) Wait for the beta and actual change-log before losing their noodles... or
B) Get into game development and make a new game just they way they want if it's so easy to do.

Keep up the good work!

Truth is it doesn't seem to be presented that way, as it stands (or seems) - if you are on a friends ship you get 100% of the income a pilot gets.

Think something like this external view:

But with the ability to move the external camera around and aim your turret that way.

Thanks for the reply but OMG an external view of the whole ship I certainly hope not! I'm not usually one of the immersion>gameplay crowd but here I think Elite should remain first person always. Otherwise I think just this one aspect is going to be a real let-down for me (I like most of the rest of the implementation so far). I just hope it has a decent UI to go with it.

I sincerely hope this doesn't mean that we'll be getting 3rd person combat... that could be game breaking.

+1

Considering how people flock to all kind of "multiple people commanding one ship" games I think it being a main game feature, also what potential role it might play to future of ED (space legs), I think FD attention is justified.

As for PvP context I really doubt FD sees it that way. But I understand your point. Said that...I will have to see how challenging is play together with others on deck before making any conclusions.

Greats stuff. Have been have some fun with a pet project for multi crew and slf for casula players looking for adventures. It's bee a success in its alpha phase and I had a feeling now was teh time to reboot just before teh beta. Take a look here if you are interested. Most importantly this is for nice folk, casual player, old times, new players and folk who can leave ego in the happy box.

Multi crew is looking like it could be really good fun and bring players together and build a stronger ED community.

All smiles.

Yeah maybe if the less skilled pilots get to see the better pilots in action, then the skill cap will increase and the NPCs will finally be upgraded to a Yellow Alert threat level?

I have to say, I don't think I've ever been this disappointed with update news before.

Practically everything I've dreamed of doing with multicrew—long range group expeditions, stranded SRV rescues, basically anything with any substance whatsoever—none of it is possible with this.

They're doing exactly what I feared they would: shallow, instant transport for nothing more than a quick little boost in combat.

Sad.

Yep. Feels short.

Which is IMHO a good idea. At least, I will be able to help my friends, who bought ED recently. Show them how to do certain things and help them to better ships. Maybe I will buy a second game account and will help myself to decent ship back in Bubble quite fast. It is OK on my side.

''schedule multi-crew gameplay weeks in advance just to make it work.''

That sounds awesome to me. makes the game feel alive , dynamic and real.

FD need to add a new gameplay option ''open-without magic'' its a mode that has no magic in it , maybe even make it pay per month , because I would pay hundreds of euros a month for a more immersive game

Surely if a bunch of untrained folks can't do it, that means a videogame company can't do either...

On topic, I relly do hope we see more things being added in future betas but that's not the kind of optmistic scenario we're used to.

How about some sort of scaling to prevent gold sellers? A harmless CMDR multicrewed with an Elite one and getting paid the same seems wrong to me.

No, it says if you take part you get 100%. I was saying about contributing to kills.

But we will see.

Nope it says..

All bounties and vouchers that the helmsman (ship owner) receives are duplicated for each crewmember,

Now, to take it away from a combat only feature, what are the odds that this is changed to "All profits"?

I'm with you on this one.
