2.3 The Commanders

In ED lore condas and such cannot be flown solo at all. Having someone move shields around would already do a lot. Energy for turreted tracking can go to damage with manual tracking. Etc.

Sounds fun!
Right now I would love to set up my ASP X with two scarabs take on a irl friend as a navigator to check the map for scoopable stars while I could concentrate on scooping and jumping. Upon arriving on the new systems expected to have alien ruins we would race across the surface in the scarabs (I know I know, its not the most effective way to search, but i'm playing for fun!).

All the while we could have fun talking about life, telling jokes (and maybe drinking beer).

I'm not sure how, but I'm sure we'll have fun whatever FP adds to the game.

This.

What about a new hardpoint type? For example non-automated turrets with separate power distributor (and increased power draw in relation to conventional turrets)? You have to outfit them and need a crew member to operate them - but if you do so, your ship is definitely buffed in combat! No "magic" percental increase neccessary, no nerf of the existing turrets.

Really, there are so many possibilities to make things work! I am puzzeled by the very unusual lack of imagination in the forum in respect to this topic ...

Why would that screw you?

Do you feel screwed over by the use of wings?

This right here, it's one of the first replies but really is the point here.
This really just adds another element to wings, I don't get the problem.

If you don't like it or want to play alone... don't do it...

I really hope that 2.3 will include also simple FPP movement at bridge, just in order to switch roles... It will be really easy to implement, basic controls, few animation, a bit of synchronization and it will be very immersive.

I wouldn't get your hopes up there. I imagine any ambulation would be held back to be sold as the key to a season. Far too many people will pay to walk around their beloved space-ships for FD to give it away for free.

I can't see the appeal? I know some people will use it, but I think that will be a tiny minority. Not to fly your own ship? That's crazy - this is Elite. Maybe it's how I play - are there enough players who always stick together in a wing, and who would want to be in someone else's ship to justify this? If you're out to kill, a coordinated group of ships seems the way to go.

Can you imagine exploring multicrew? Who gets to honk, and who presses J?

The needs of the PVP minority seems to trump everything else at the moment.

HAHAHAHAHA!

What makes you think this is going to be even remotely useful for PvP?

You won't see a single PvP group advocating multicrew for anything but shenanigans and fun. 4 ships always trumps 1, because the enemy is split into 4 targets.

What's the point of it then?

I hope we get to see if the ship we are fighting is multi crewed or not if it is balanced against wings.

I do feel screwed over buy wings as i have no friends and the ones i have are rarly online with me. But i can see if its a wing and just run and i want to be able to do the same if its a 4 in one ship. I guess its a wait and see as we basiclay know nothing right now

It would be, but on the other hand if it keeps with the idea of no artificial gravity control in the Elite universe the moment someone accelerates and you're out of your seat, you're going to be a small patch of blood on the wall.
Magnet boots would be even worse, your shins would snap off.

Back in the 80's, when video games were just pioneering many of the innovations we now take for granted, some enterprising individuals discovered that just because you have two or more people interacting with the game doesn't mean they necessarily need to compete directly with each other.

Through ingenious coding and careful Q&A testing they devised Co-operative play, in which 2 or more players could work together to achieve a common goal.

As strange as it may seem to you, Co-operative Play games remain wildly popular to this day and highly enjoyable to experience with friends.

Wings are pretty useless when you only play in solo, too - although, of course, you're still put up against NPC wings. I expect it'll be the same with multicrew.

I'd be highly disappointed if it weren't the same. NPC's need all the help they can get.

Can't wait to see what a 4-crew Corvette is capable of.

You should make instruction manuals.

You should make instruction manuals.

I'd prefer to just work PR for a Politician, maybe write some speeches. With the amount of time they spend convincing the general public that mundane, everyday routines and occurrences are monumental, Earth-shaking revolutions that should blow their mind while simultaneously inducing the hallucination of a golden halo descending upon the speaker's form as they stand before the groveling, unworthy masses?

I'd never run out of work. Talk about a Boom Economy.

Yeah, true. As I moved abroad for work I dont get to have RL beers with my old mates. With one of them ED has become our chat-interface. :p We just bumble around, without great focus or anything. Roving over mountains, racing through canyons while drinking and talking random stuff. Looking very much forward to MC. :D

I play games always coop with my friends. If the game has no coop we don't play it.

Thats the problem with ED, the game is oversimplified, you just can play with very little mechanics and it gets boring very fast. If FD want to do a nice multicrew experience they NEED to add much more mechanics so everyone in the ship is important and have fun playing with their role.

For instance if the multicrew will consist on maning turrets then it will be a big fail.

I've said it plenty of times, sometimes I just don't feel like being the pilot but wanna spend time gaming with friends, I'd love to play engineer and navigation during those periods.
