Patch Notes Update 2.4 The Return - Patch Notes

The first mission I caught sight of was a simple courier job for an Exquisite Focus Crystal.
I hastily accepted it with a satisfied grin on my face... which suddenly went away as soon as I opened the galaxy map: the destination was some 22,000 Ly away, somewhere in goddamn Colonia.

I was like " guys, 1 (one) single piece of EFC for a 22 kLy trip? Are you serious? I would never go that far, not even for a hundred wretched EFCs."

I abandoned the mission within a second, for which I was punished with an adjudication server error.
:-D

I'm having network issues, I'd already been playing flawlessly before the update, now keeps getting disconnected, I tried solo in case of bandwidth issues, no joy, any help would be appreciated.

Dont port forward/VPN and turn on the UPnP.
Use direct lan connection.
Don't have grimey crap running in your systray.Dump antivirus program, windows security is enough
Tell your sis to stop watching kardashian videos upstairs

Got back into the game after 10 minutes. Spawned me 47,000Ls from the Neutron Star I was trying to jump to and planned to FSD supercharge from. Also have a message notification light with no unread messages.

Thargoid wrong number

I am sorry for those of you having connection errors, some of the people in my friends list are too, but the majority are not. The team are still working away and hopefully they can settle them down for you all.

I think some planets have always had them. I remember I took a picture of the canyons on Ariel around 2.1 and that has a layer of mist/fog over them. There was certainly some over the Thargoid bases in 2.3 too.

Same, especially on icy bodies or in nebulae. Get some really nice shots with those as well. Maybe they just upped the number of planet types that have them?

Just finished downloading the 6.6 GB ( 'twas 2 hours. Thankfully I had X factor pre recorded [yesnod] )

And then ...... Steam started on a 7.5 GB download ..... Has something gone wrong here, or is this suppose to happen ?? ( BTY another 2 and a half hours now, with no X factor to watch :O )

Take the blue pill.

Truly impressive set of patch notes and i really look forward to the stuff you're not telling us about:)!

Couple of dissapointments:
The Galaxy Map still isn't fixed for wide screens - the tag doesn't anchor to the system and it's hard to work out where to put your cursor.
That said - I can click on commander markers on the galmap whilst zoomed out and it zooms me in to them again! GREAT WORK FDEV! Why didn't you put this in the patch notes? :)!

Life support synthesis - Nuclear submarines use power from their reactor to hydrolyse water and produce oxygen and hydrogen (which would be a useful byproduct in the ED universe). CO2 is scrubbed out using a fluid, this is soon(ish) to be replaced by a powder in the USN that can be reconstituted just by heating - potentially leading to virtually limitless life support with enough power and water. You would have to humidifiy the air anyway to avoid the crew becoming crispy and crew need water to sustain life as well.

So why isn't it just water (ice) that is required to replenish life support - it would give us a reason to go to those snow ball planets/icy rings when exploring as well!

Thanks again, just 2 thoughts and looking forward to all the good stuff!

6.6GB here which downloaded in 30 minutes and that was it.

I wondered this, electrolysis is something they do on the ISS today, they get oxygen from water and vent the hydrogen.

Had my first aggressive Thargoid Encounter in the Pleiades Sector OI-T C3-7 A 6 , in Orbit above the Barnacles.....
That thing first scanned me and then launched it Drones..... was a close one but i escaped in one piece...

Update 2.4 The BIG BUG FIX

So... These release notes read more like a massive, long overdue bug-fix integration... and less about QOL changes or design overhauls & gameplay additions. I understood from the start that outside of Thargoids, 2.4 would be light on content and heavy on QOL, but I'm not really seeing a lot of new stuff. So unless the "Mysterious and Exciting Things" are:

-Overhauled smuggling & exploration career paradigms
-Making %98 of the galaxy not look beige anymore
-Amazing stellar phenomenon we have never seen before,
-Making smuggling actually dangerous and lucrative (avoiding scans is a joke)
-The new Search & Rescue career is amazing
-Engineers aren't such Kucks and we can actually find materials without abandoning our families for weeks at a time
-Not get rolls at tier 5 which are worse then an awesome roll at Tier 4 (Don't even get me started on that one...)
-add new gameplay that goes beyond "scoop that thing", "shoot that thing", "scan that thing"...

Also... No Type 10 Defender?

I realize we all play Elite in very different ways and this list obviously reflects the things I would most like to see.
For many the Thargoids will herald a huge infusion of combat excitement and new gameplay, but for a lot of us... it seems we may have to yet wait a lot longer.

Sorry just had to vent... *passionate and grumpy CMDR is passionate and grumpy" [sulk]

First 20 minutes kept getting CONNECTION ERROR. Then jumps took far too long. But all right now for the last ¾ of an hour.

Message list on Comms Panel buggy. Reading nested messages is awkward. I've read all my messages but still have an unread message flag.

Neutron route planner doesn't give priority to neutron star systems unless they're on a direct line to your destination.

EDDiscovery doesn't seem to work properly now. I expect whoever's responsible for it will fix it to work with 2.4.

Otherwise absolutely no difference to before update as far as I can yet tell.

I think you misunderstood. 2.4 is a continual release of content, the heavy QoL things you are talking about have always been slated for after 2.4 (whatever that may be) in 3304 and we will find out more about them at the expo in under 2 weeks.

Exploration mechanics need to be top of the list of improvements! :)

  • "If you're still reading this we're definitely not telling you about the mysterious things, you'll have to wait and find out......"

This quote perfectly illustrates a major reason why this game is outstanding. The devs love this game so much they aren't afraid to troll the crap out of their own player base :D

Thank you for all of your hard work and another great update to improve gameplay

Please dont make the type 10 fly like a school bus with little agility, type 9 is shocking to fly.

All part of the mystique of the game and the suspense.

Missions
  • Multiple Planetary Scan missions will no longer complete after a single scan
  • We now include the faction and station name in chain mission inbox messages
I'm very frustrated & annoyed that Planetary missions are apparently still not fixed (i.e. not being issued, except very rarely, other than deliveries). That makes 2 major releases (2.3 & 2.4), that I cannot play ED because the content I'm interested in is missing (i.e. Horizon mission content). Starting to regret ever backing the ED Kickstarter now. Bad enough if promised stuff isn't added, but to loose major content that WAS added, for 6+ months, is just ridiculous.

ED was just starting to become a good single-player space game (and live up to it's Kickstarter promises) with 2.2, and then you go and undo that with 2.3+. I had been expecting to finally be able to recommend ED to some friends with 2.3, but now it seems I'm never going to be able to recommend ED to anyone :(
