Your linked post pretty much contradicts what you said. FDev made the colours more accurately match the composition of Earth. Not the actual planet that you are seeing, which has different conditions to earth.

I didn't notice any difference in the Beta. But yes they also don't mention everything in the patch notes, so something may have been done, but I doubt it.

I didn't read it as a contradiction, just that they are based on what we see on Earth, do we know that the colour of minerals are different on these airless worlds?

I'm not sure about the colours in Beta as I didn't do much investigation on it myself, but I'll certainly be looking out once it drops and have my fingers crossed for a bit more variety coming back.

As a player who has fractured his fair share of laws-& killed more than his fair share of innocent NPC civilians-I really, *REALLY* hope you guys consider extending these penalties to PvE crimes of the same magnitude, in the not too distant future.

I completely agree with this and have asked it a few times. Sandro did actually comment on it in the lore stream he was on recently, I can't remember exactly the answer but I'm sure he said they haven't stopped work on the C&P system and it would be investigated as part of that.

Now I've heard that the galaxy is looking less beige in the 2.4 beta, maybe the work on the flexible material system has begun. Just because it's not in the patch notes doesn't mean it's not there, ongoing work on something doesn't mean that it's complete enough to put in the patch notes.

What? Where? When? Who? Direct me to this wonderful "the galaxy is less beige" news so I can bask in the glory (sorry Arissa) of high hopes :D

*chuckles*

A better one than some make :D Welcome to the forums!

Actually I never said this game has clans/guilds. This game does have player factions, whether you choose to accept that or not is entirely up to you.

Given how little else in the game is realistic (automatic slowing down when in supercruise, FTL travel, inability to enter orbit, lasers etc) and rightfully so, why listen to a small fraction of the audience for one thing (beigeness) but not all the other things (CQC, exploration improvements, setting waypoints for POI landings blah blah blah)??

its a fair point and i think is due to a change in direction from FD at some point in development. (and in my view its a shame)

when the game KSed and launched, it was fairly hard sci fi. ok sure, FTL travel was in there and stuff like loading and ships desctruction times was hand waved away.... but each ship was designed with a purpose, with logical sizes, and thought around structure. There is good science behind the galaxy generation and stuff for the most part made sense. The flight model whilst not full neutonian for design and technology reasons, is a "nod" to it, and also is written into the lore how it works and you can see your engines firing off to make the ship fly how it does.

however since then more and more updates have been pure fantasy. engineers, CQC, and for me the biggest faux pas the remote avatars in ships crew.

so we get the perfect storm of the "sci fi" players colliding with the "space fantasy" players.

I can live quite happily with holograms / CQC etc but it requires consistent lore to glue it together. Its possible, but it can't be done retroactively.

I don't know. I have never been to them, but by looking at our own solar system, they are varied in colour or have large variartions of colour on the sruface. The moons/planets in ED are a blanket single colour of beige, which is just wrong and very boring.

That rings of lots of graphic/audio content surely?

Suspect we might see people looking through the game files tonight to speculate on content...?

I don't have access to my gaming PC for the next few weeks (meep!) but if 2.4 Live is anything like 2.4 Betas, it'll be harder to infer anything from the game-files - which is probably a good thing!

In 2.3, the folder names & structures were revealing, whereas in 2.4 Betas they were more obfuscated; so you'd only learn anything by digging into the files or hacking into the game in memory in some fashion.

I'm half way back from Sagittarius A... so I do like 20ly routes planning will be useful.

Wonder if the Thargoids HW will be 10+k ly away...

Thanks Frontier's FDEV for getting 2.4 this far already. Seriously well done. I just hope when I wake up tomorrow morning the new and shiny game Launcher can download the files it needs in a smooth fashion rather than slow, mega slow and stop! Just sayin!
