When will this hit Live Servers?
Before the end of March.
When will this hit Live Servers?
You have a 700t cargo ship full of goods.
You then jump to your other cargo ship and fill that with goods.
You jump to another cargo ship.. and another.. and another.
I never said you said anything about hording commodities; but that's exactly what it would be used for; I was explaining (one possible reason) why we don't have it.
8<snip>8
You're way off the mark BECAUSE like most on these forums , its repeat what the last person said , or repeat what 'you' think will happen, BECAUSE that's what you 'might' try to do.
8<snip>8
What's the worst possible action to happen if the ability to swap ships without having the cargo follow? Because that's EXACTLY what's gonna happen, given human nature.
Read first. but that's EXACTLY not going to happen., is it ?
[snip]
I'm actually precisely on the mark. It doesn't matter what the request for storage is about, it doesn't matter why you want it - great as it is (in case you missed it, I'm in favour of keeping cargo in your ship so you can jump to different ships (with limitations)); the end result would be a consequence Frontier don't seem keen on allowing; otherwise they'd have likely already implemented it, or something akin to it, already.
How on earth would it impossible to hoard? You fill a ship. You transfer to a different ship. You're now stockpiling. You then repeat that action for as many ships as you can buy and fill up, and now you're hoarding. Even if it's just one ship.. you're still hoarding. What happens if we get 1,000t haulers, or 2,000?
Ship transfer without taking cargo with you will impact so much more than you think it will.
Transferring to a different ship without taking your cargo with you is a form of cargo storage; and given the ability to do so, many (probably most) players WILL (fact) begin to stockpile commodities for various reasons, the least of which would could be that they just want to go have some combat before going back to their trading, or some might use it as an insurance policy; they run out of money, they die .. oh nice, they still have a 700t cargo ship bursting at the seams with Palladium.
I don't see anything wrong with this, of course - but it's a reality that people will use it in similar ways.
What about Wings that spend their days influencing the BGS? Or trying to control or affect systems?
Example 1:
Wing A and Wing B are fighting for control of systems around their area of space. Wing B doesn't use stockpiling because they can't afford to, but Wing A can and does. Both Wings have 1000 Cmdrs. Wing B begins taking System X, then at least half of Wing A's Cmdrs with several 700t cargo ships stuffed with stockpiled commods a piece launch from Station Y, dock at Station X and sell their cargo. There are numerous things wrong here.
Example 2:
What about a Wing that wants to influence the markets? 100 Cmdrs each have 30 x 700t cargo vessels, that's 21,000t PER Cmdr; or 2,100,000t of cargo in limbo. What happens to the markets? Dump that cargo back into the markets at the right time? Again, what happens to the markets? Can the BGS handle that?
And that's just ONE Wing.
Example 3:
Community Goals.
A Player Faction wants to get their own Space Station.
In order to do so, 1000 members of this faction decide they're going stockpile hundreds of thousands of tons of a certain commodity (e.g.: explosives) (not to mention the hundreds of Cmdrs who may have done similar things after being told by their Player Faction friends to stockpile on explosives).
The CG is approved and launched.
Those 1000 members then dump all their stockpiled explosives into the CG.. completing, or almost completing, it in little to no time and only the members of the faction truly benefit from it. They're in the top percentile, they make a large profit, and they get their station.
Fair?
Even if your rule of only one ship with cargo is applied, the effect still be the same only to a slightly lesser degree.
A 1,000 Cmdr strong Wing will have 700,000t (1,000 x 700t) of stockpiled goods that can be used to influence systems, crash markets, unfairly benefit Cmdr's in CG's etc.
To reclarify, I'm not against cargo storage, I'd love to be able to buy up storage space at stations and stuff it full modules, or goods or whatever ... it's Frontier who are seemingly against it; with the examples above as possible reasons why.
Then please feel free to ask to have your forum account deleted and move on with your life... I have ED uninstalled ..
Can somebody say to Braben to remove the material requirements during the besta testing? It is just a waist of time to look for the materials in beta server...
Braben's not the one conducting the beta test personally, so that won't do much at all.
They also reduced the requirements to 1 iron and are giving everybody 100 iron in the beta on Feb 6th for Beta 3 of 3.0.

It says more about you than you think if you're still here, having a whinge about a game that doesn't suit your preferences.
Anyone whom has spent some serious time involved with the trucking industry could attest that if it's possible. One will do it.
Where as trucking companies only needed one trailer to do the majority of hauling, some figured, by having two it would be easier, because one could leave an empty and while it being filled, deliver the other. Which gave way to a company now needing mulitple trailers. one to be filled at each shipper establish ment and one at each receivers establishment. And if one can supply enough trailers, one can get an exclusive haul with various shippers and receivers. Thus the shippers and receivers have grown accostom to placing their ware on free trailers parked in their lots and no longer require the use of haveing to utilize a wharehouse. Which is fine for them, but sucked for anyone in the wharehouse industry.
Think about it, though most would never do it, there are those that will. One has the maxed number of ships available, and loads the entire highest products leaving absolutely none for the next guy, and simply leaves them in the station till whenever. What would that do to a station economy. I mean, if a few bad guys running around wreaking havoc by killing people and robbing a few cargo carriers can effect a system economy, so can the absence of having no products.
Just ask Prime, Inc in Springfield MO, or J.B. Hunt.
