Engineers 3 Hours of mining gone in gone in 30 SECONDS

I almost lost my Multi-Purpose Python to a Deadly Viper MkIV. Even though the Python has a higher maneuverability rating I had a hard time staying on target and it kept chaffing. It was a battle of a attrition and I needed to run. I'm in a FAS now. There's a couple reasons I lost that fight, the AI is indeed more skilled with better loadouts, the Python is a glacier and its a problem I've had with it for a while, I wasn't equipped properly to deal with the new AI. Turrets would have helped, if I could have afforded them at the time, but then again, it was constantly chaffing, so maybe not.

I for one, appreciate how the new AI flies, it does take adapting though. It sucks that you lost that much mining, but it does look like you made a couple mistakes. Whenever I was mining in a Python, I didn't even stick around to fire one shot, it was instant retreat (HazRes, usually wings would pop in and scan me). In time, you will get it all figured out and it will be back to "easy AI" posts. Don't you worry. Just being in a FAS has brought them back into more than manageable levels. This leads me to believe that I'm just not adept at flying slower non-combat/multi-purpose ships. I've always flown combat ships for combat, so it's always an adjustment. The ships handle surprisingly different, even with the same or less maneuverability.

Three hours of mining in my Python on Jura 7 Pristine Metallic ring gone in 15 seconds by a Federal Drop Ship NPC. "There you are and your nice load". I drop out of SC to try to evade. Then he drops out right behind me and in 15 seconds, my shields are down and in another 15 seconds my hull is gone. I was on my way to Jura 2 to sell my 3 hours of mining - Painite 18 tons, plus 110 other pristine metals and some I haven't even heard of before, GONE!!!

I'm not happy, no sir. FIX THIS FDEV. I PAID FOR THE WHOLE RIDE, $180 FOR EVERY EXPANSION AND EVERY SEASON AND I AM NOT HAPPY IN THE LEAST. I am an explorer and a miner, not looking for a shoot'em up.
Ha-ha! You deserved it.

On my way to pick up my Python and run some tests, from what I'm hearing maybe the ship is bugged, plan is to take it out and see what the reality is.

Anyway, 3 jumps from Diagunadri and I get interdicted by an Elite FAS bounty hunter. My T9 is unmodified, just 7A's and some boosters.

I think for a balanced discussion people need to start posting video's. Simply saying 'The AI is OP!' it really isn't enough to get an accurate picture, we need to see what people are actually doing when under attack.

All I'm seeing with the AI is you need to be highly aggressive, literally take a baseball bat to them, they end up running away. It doesn't have to be skillful or pretty, just batter them.

Really the only problem I have with the Python is the maneuverability. In my case, it was likely just a loadout issue. You're at least required to think differently about how you fit your ships in this iteration. You have a great strategy there though, Driver. Haul ass at the target and use that mass for a nice shield breaking ram and follow it up with a bunch of missiles. Then again, I've known you as someone to be a vocal and experienced T9 pilot. This is what leads me to believe that people were just used to mostly passive AI or weren't used to being out maneuvered. I've always had issues with Python maneuverability, but the new patch just compounded it enough that I ditched the ship for now. It did not seem like there was anything changed with the Pyton, it's just that the AI is better and makes the flaws more apparent.

The python instakills may have just been coincidence/small sample size/more people using it. From some videos posted it looks as if the problem is related to a glitched rate of fire on some NPC's enhanced weapons. Someone posted one of a railgun that was firing so rapidly it looked like a blue beam laser, doing leagues more damage than the other ships firing and shredding a clipper in something like 2 seconds. Then there was the mysterious "plasma volley" from an NPC python in another video.

Hold on a minute..

18t of Painite after 3hrs? You're mining in the wrong place, you should get 50t++ in that time. Stick to "pristine metallic".

Sorry to hear that. I usually goto Jura for mining but today instead I went to HR 4720, it was a bit closer for my Conda to get to plus its High security. Even then on the way back I was interdicted by an Elite Dropship but was able to jump back into Hyperspace before he could lay a glove on me.

Did you accept any mining mission before you left the station? If so this may have increased the chances of you being interdicted. Usually I go mining and then accept any available missions afterwards.

6E Thrusters

Way too slow to escape. Buy 6A when you can afford it.

7C Power Dist

Class 7 - too much mass - too slow. Buy 6A.

My Python has good weaponry and reinforced amour with 2 x 3D hull reinforcement packs, and yet still does the max (unmodded) 267 m/s with 348 m/s boost, because I used 6A modules for power plant and power distributor. The class 7 ones really slow you down and reduce your jump range as well.

Before the 2.1 patch, I spent a thrilling 40 minutes refreshing the missions with "mode switching" (which often didn't even work...) to get a single Osmium mission. I had 12 Osmium to sell and ended up only selling 2 via missions, because it's just not practical to take the missions after mining, unless you're willing to sit on the resources for days or the "mode switching" thing actually works for you in a timely fashion.

That said, you're right that you get interdicted more if you have missions.

I've read some of those posts and even seen a video. But I stopped reading. They scare me.
Don't be scared, most of them are just fear mongering by people who couldn't fight their way out of a paper box in their A rated whatevers. I have watched some of those videos and they all have the same thing in common:
1. 0 pip management, they put pips in a state at the beginning of the fight, and when they die they are the same.
2. 0/1 pips in shields, aka you weaken you shields enourmously, before you could get away with it since the AI didn't actually shoot back, they do now (well the higher ranked ones anyway).
3. Ignoring the ability to go backwards, aka trying to do loop di loops against more agile opponents in a slow ship (anaconda, python, etc).

In other words they so called geniouses who think they are buck rogers, are flying like uncle rogers instead. I shield tanked in an unmodified corvette. 1 Elite corvette, 1 dangerous asp (shooting rails). and some eagle. I killed the corvette but they managed to get my shield down (that elite corvette threw out an impressive amount of fire) so I had to bug out. Finally something that shoots back.

the NPC rank is crap there are elite NPC's fighting like total noobs and lower rank fighting like ultimate AI machines

I got my ass handed to me by single master NPC conda, me flying mining build corvette. I just couldnt get on his tail... Lost 22mil insurance and cargo worth of 1.5 hours of mining.
Another encounter, when elite fer de lance attacked me I thought, thats it I am going to be shred to pieces again... but I didnt had any problems with that encounter and killed the ferdie easily. I also found out that my corvette build pre engineers is not appropriate in engineers so i refitted my ship

A human pirate would immediately give clear terms. eg:-
"Come to a halt!"
"Hand over X tons of Y immediately."

A human ganker would open fire immediately

Why (with the improve AI) are NPC pirates (still) more like gankers than pirates? Would it not make more sense for them to give clear terms/conditions? Can they not, like a human pirate, resort to trying hatch breakers? Or does blowing up all the very cargo they're after make more sense?

I don't understand why core game basics like this are not being done? Surely a more intelligent/varied approach by NPC pirates would result in a more immersive and +ve gaming experience?

eg: Why give station traffic control voices (for just immersion), when instead giving them to NPC pirates, for logical demands, "Come to a halt now commander or I will open fire," would be both immersive and constructive?

Such is life .. Get over it.

Can't recall exactly but my mostly B rated Python got shredded by an Adder the other day - took my hull down to 9% Shortly afterwards a Clipper took my repaired Python down to 23% ( because I ran sooner, if an Adder takes me to 9... EEEK! ) Thats with FAoff, chaff, etc. etc.

I'll add my voice to the "I die in a Python" thread. Mine got it's shields dropped fairly quick by a dangerous FdL, and when I tried to high wake out, he destroyed my drives. Had to sit there and wait while he dismantled the rest of my ship. Lost 6 mil worth of ship and cargo.

I love my Python, but I'm not taking her out again until I can get at least tier 3 dirty drives. I absolutely need speed as she currently cannot run with her topped off 330 m/s or so boost speed.

The cargo for sure would have catalyzed the explosion...

It should have been a beatiful explosion!!

Unfortunatly I missed it...

Joking of course: things like this happen in the new universe.

Just had vaporized my Asp, landed on a planet, while i was dining :)

Out of interesting... What was you opinion of how the NPC pirate communicated with you?

Did he - once you were disabled/damaged - then try to hatch breaker you?

Or did you get the impression he just wanted to blow you up full stop?
