Well I'm not after me making money on their assets, but would rather get them to sell it.
Not sure if you've heard about Kerbal Space Program?
A few years ago I reached out to KSP and asked them if they are interested in 3D printing their "kerbals".
https://www.shapeways.com/shops/kerbalspaceprogram
I explained them how the process works, users (anyone!) can set up a shop on Shapeways and sell their 3D models.
Shapeways will do the printing and shipping to customers.
On top of the production costs (that go to Shapeways) the shopowner (Kerbal Space Program in this example) can add markup which Shapeways will pay to the ShopOwner.
So if something costs $5 to print and the owner wants to get $10, the customer will have to pay $15 to Shapeways, which will then be split and the shopowner receives his share ($10).
KSP was enthusiastic about it and opened a shop, getting them some more revenue.
Hopefully Frontier would make that step in the future too

It's a nice way to sell some 3D printed merchandise without having to do anything (except for uploading the 3D files and add markup to the products)
