[3D VISION FIX] Elite Dangerous + EDTracker + 3D Vision = AWESOME!!!

Try this...

https://s3.amazonaws.com/andysonofbob/Elite+Dangerous+Fix+V11+64bit+UNTESTED.rar

Completely untested. Obviously the planet surfaces won't have been looked at...

Many thanks for the link. Just checked it. Unfortunately, the suns disappear (see the system map below):

no_suns.jpg

When the map is first activated, the suns flash on for a split second, before disappearing! I assume that they disappear in space as well.

Press "/"
.
Believe it or not, it's a feature I added. Press "/" when in the system map. Did you say the suns disappear in space too? That shouldn't happen. So the 64bit sort of works? It doesn't crash and apart from what you mentioned it all looks OK?
.
In vanilla the stars and planets look too small so I adjusted their depth which makes them look bigger but it causes them to vanish in the system map. I compensated by leaving the planet atmospheres alone so you could see them in the system map. I was never happy with the 'fix' because the atmosphere looked off and the planets lacked detail in the system map.
.
Pressing "/" toggles the depth adjust on and off and should be used when in system map.
.
ALSO:
.
SEEKING OPINIONS
.
Pressing "/" will toggle planet/star 3D depth:
  1. Keep the planet fix requiring toggle
  2. Keep the star fix requiring toggle
  3. Keep both requiring toggle
  4. Remove the fix no need for toggle
  5. Revert back to old method (atmosphere and some planet types untouched making them look small and system map planets lacking detail but) no need for toggle
.
.
@TheFourteenthDoctor
Apart the above (using the "/" toggle when in system map) that does it work in 64bit? I have no idea...
.
I will upload a 64bit version of the last version of the fix when I get back whatever happens!

Version 11a

Right!

I have uploaded a couple of new versions:

A 32bit version of 11a found here
and an untested 64bit version of 11a found here

I have also uploaded an untested 64 bit version of 10 found here
and a rollback to version 10 for vanilla 32bit users found here

[CHANGELOG]
It's a version 11a because all I have done is take out the planetary and solar textures and put them in their own folders making it more modular. The default version leaves the system map looking completely cool BUT the planets and in-system stars 'might' appear slightly small to some people. You have the following three options (four including doing nothing):

  1. If you want to make the planets look deeper copy and paste the 5 files from within the \ShaderFixes\Planet Textures folder into the ShaderFixes with the other shaders. You will need to use "/" to toggle depths to view the planets in the system map.
  2. If you want to make the suns look deeper copy and paste the 6 files from within the \ShaderFixes\Star Textures folder into the ShaderFixes with the other shaders. You will need to use "/" to toggle depths to view the stars in the system map.
  3. If you want to make both the suns AND the planets look deeper, copy and paste the 6 files from within the \ShaderFixes\Star Textures folder AND the 5 files from \ShaderFixes\Planet Textures folder into the ShaderFixes with the other shaders. You will need to use "/" to toggle depths to view the stars and planets in the system map.

I prefer #1. :)

Remember "/" will switch on the planets and stars etc. in the system map. You will need to press it again to fix the depths of the planet/suns when out of the system map.

I hope it is not that hassle. :/ The toggle is instantaneous.

All the best!

Sorry I missed the / toggle described in an earlier post, this works fine in the system map and the suns are indeed present in space (I jumped to an incorrect conclusion there when I didn't immediately see a sun!). I had to abandon the testing last night as the servers went down for the Horizons release. Today Elite 32 bit had to be upgraded and Elite 64 bit and Horizons 64 bit had to be re-installed. This is taking an age, as the stream keeps dropping out!

Also, the 64 bit 11a link did not allow a download, so I've so far had to use v11. Will post again as soon as I have had chance to test all three of the new versions. :)

The v11a download link now works, thank you, but it may be the wrong file, as the 11a download files do not contain, or generate, a PlanetTextures and/or StarTextures folder. So unfortunately I still cannot test the planet/star depth issues easily.

OK, here is what I have found so far:

Elite 32 bit:
Will not now start, so cannot test! (Nothing to do with the 3D, of course!)

Elite 64 bit and Horizons 64 bit (using v11a):
/ toggle works fine in the System Map, but seems to have no effect in normal space, and I cannot detect any "pushing back" or other effects. (As I am not sure exactly what I am missing, this doesn't worry me, and makes me wonder about setting the toggle so that the default on boot is set to on for the system map. What do you think?)

The inside of space stations, both below and above launch pad, are rather dark, with some features not discernible. Also, the green and red exit lights shine too far in front of their location, as do the red lights of what I will call the three Rama horns at the rear of a station, and the red/orange lights outside a station. This latter is particularly noticeable.

In space, the stars are too close, and very obviously in a "plane" (in front of the milky way and nebula). I do not recall this being an issue with the 32 bit version, but cannot now check as the upgraded version will not boot! I will try using the nebula tweak to adjust this.

Everything else seems fine in the 64 bit version :)

Hope this helps. Keep up the good work!

Will keep trying and post updates as I use and learn more.

Hi, I amanting to try the new fix but I can not find the FORC-FDEV-D-1010 folder. I am unsure what to do know?? I am using the NON Steam version on a PC..

New 64bit version

Right I have found a starfield. I am in the area near Sol. There will be more. I am really pleased to report planet surfaces look good! I only needed to remove a dodgy radar texture that didn't seem to do anything useful.
I am happy to jump around in my Asp Ex to find the starfields in the hub but I might contact FD to see if they can let me log in as a test user so I can quickly go to galactic centre to find the three starfields there.

[Changelog]
Located and fixed 1 starfield - there will be more
Tweaked settings of in system planets so they sync better with the distant but properly rendered counterpart
Removed a planet rover radar texture (it looked hashed) which was showing different in each eye

@The_Nephilim
The new folder is located C:\[SOMEWHERE]\EDLaunch\Products\elite-dangerous-64\ so it is no longer FORC-FDEV-D-1010.

EDIT
Updated to V2 which allows the toggle - default is off. "/" to toggle planet depths. :)

Release of V3

Hi

I have found another couple of shaders. I still need to hunt down a starfield, if anyone'a starfield is too shallow, let me know where you are please?

I have also added another shortcut option:

  • "." Now toggles star's bloom. Default Bloom OFF. This helps with the doubling of objects. But you loose the bloom. I think the stars now looks like how they were represented in Mass Effect 2! I just pretend my cockpit glass has anti-glare. But if you want the bloom back. Hit "."
    .
  • "/" Toggles the planets depths. Default standard planet depths. If you think planets look to small when you are in high orbit "/" will push them back. YOU WILL NEED TO TOGGLE WHEN USING SYSTEM MAP

[CHANGE LOG]
Removed texture which was occluding planets.
Added toggle for star's bloom to help reduce texture doubling.
Pushed back deep space planets AGAIN

Hi everyone
Before anything, I would just like to thank you andysonofbod for his excellent work and commitment to the 3D Vision integration in ED.
Now to the subject at hand. I'be been testing ED with the x64 v2 release, and I've noticed issues in which some of them are a deal breaker to me:
- Stations are dark as hell. Not sure if it's expect ed due to shadows being off, but only emissive surfaces are shown. Even in outfitting panel things are the same.
- Outside of stations (at least), light's Bloom (the glare thingy, not sure if is the right naming) are shown despite being off in options, and they are shown in wrong position, and partially (left/right eye only)
- Looking into ships with a sun behing, a shadow apears 100% opaque black.

Could this be x64 version issues?

Kind regards

:)

You must be really fussy my man! :O I have seen 3D Vision 'Excellent' rated games looking worse than this!

but sorry to hear this is a deal breaker for you :(

The dark station thingy is a weird one. It seems to be related to the local time of day: when it is night on the planet, under the station is dark, dusk == darker, day == light etc. I have also found that as soon as I move, the station activates the lights! It is almost like economy mode! Do you find the same?

Remaining bloom, parts of which showing slightly different in each eye: I thought these were so minor I ignored because even though they look a bit weird they are quite useful! They are only situational; if they annoy you, turn slightly!

I wasn't sure what you meant by the looking into ship with a sun behind? Do you mean the top of cockpit/object doubling when between you and stars / certain planets? If so, I'm really sorry but that is beyond my ken to fix. :/ Like above it is only situational, just look somewhere else. Also I have added a toggle (press "." ) in the most recent fix, which removes the glow/haze around the stars, which helps reduce the effect, particularly when fighting around nav beacons! It makes it look like the ship's cockpit glass has anti-glare!

I've made available an image and 3D screen image for you to see.
The reason is kind of a deal breaker is mostly because going stations for me is a pain: that light bloom, although I agree is minor, ends up stressing my eyes as they are always in sight when docking (the red/green lights when entering stations for example), and also stations are practically black, which prevents me from enjoying their beauty.
It's like there is no light being fed onto the surfaces at all.

Stations inside. All black..
Untitled.jpg

Of course, apart 3D looks awesome. Just minor depth adjustments like HUD targeting having greater depth than stars for example. IMO it should be at the cockpit depth.

Thank you in advance.

@EngineerX

Your convergence is REALLY high! Probably contributing to your eye fatigue! Also the starfield will be far too shallow and won't line up with the nebula! Try lowering the convergence. Do this:
  • Go outside to where you can see the nebula and starfield;
  • Put this view to the center of the screen;
  • hold down your lower convergence button until the nebula is a teeny tiny bit behind the starfield when looking directly in the middle;
  • Save the convergence setting ALT (might be CTRL) + F7

I will find those light bloom things for you later tonight. It shouldn't take long. All you will need to do is put them in the ShaderFixes folder.

That inside station screenie: when you launch, do the lights turn on? BTW the screenies I posted above, were originally 3D. I just changed the .jps to .jpg to upload them onto this forum as the forum only allowed .jpg, you just need to change the .jpg to .jps.

I have some more screenies. The are from the final training mission. Will you compare your screenshots with mine please?
https://s3.amazonaws.com/andysonofbob/Elite+Training+Mission.zip

Will you take a screenie of the docking training mission, outside the station looking at the nebula please?

@andysonofbob

I applied your file and I'll see how it behaves, thank you.
Your inside station screens are like mine... Looks like a dark, abandoned spaceport :)
So I guess it's a side effect? I was able to see a bit more light when a sun's light Normal was targeting a starport's entrance. For "point light"'s, however, it seems it isn't doing anything.

Oh, and my ship's lights don't work in 3D by the way :p As if nothing is projected, so one more clue to my "point lights" theory.
Also, don't know why but my keys for convergence aren't doing anything. Depth, however, are ok, which I changed a bit.

In the meantime I was gathering some improvements along with some 3d screens that I can deliver:
- HUD Targeting/markers should be at the same depth as the elements they are marking.
- Target marker is currently between the stars depth and nebula depth.
- Hyperspace depth is below stars depth

I was also able to take a screen with the ship "shadows" issue. I'll upload images asap.
I still haven't investigated how this shader integration works, but if you want I can lend a helping hand.

Thanks again

new here, I got a set of these for Christmas and I'm trying to get it to work but I'm have an issue where the colors are separating everwhere. I have it fixed in the menu but in the ship itself it is breaking apart. I'm also having an issue where it just flash black screens. I can't get the 3D vision controls to work either.

@EngineerX

With respect, please read the instructions. :) Also, please will you test using the Training missions, either the docking one or the travel mission, so we are like for like?
The darker stations (not all of them) and slightly dodgy light shafts are an issue. (I might have also missed a starfield in galactic centre and haven't traveled to Sag A*, so it would be handy to know where you are...)

BUT

The rest aren't. You haven't followed the instructions.

Good news for you! If you haven't unlocked your convergence and haven't been tweaking convergence in your other games :O your 3D experience is going to get so much better! Convergence is OBJECTIVELY as important to 3D as depth! 100% depth, with 0% convergence is like projecting your flat 2D screen on a distant wall. You need convergence to make the scene 3D. Too much convergence makes the world look like a doll's house; this is the issue OR has been having, the pilots look like toys!

I have added some screenies to prove the HUD is cool. :)
https://s3.amazonaws.com/andysonofbob/HUD+stuff.zip

I have also updated the instruction on the HELIX site again, hopefully to make them even clearer. http://helixmod.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/elite-dangerous.html

@Firesped
Congratulations on your kit. Make sure you read all the guides to get the most out of it and you will love it!!!

@Firesped and EngineerX
Please read this guide to 3D Vision. :)
https://forums.geforce.com/default/...ng-and-using-nvidia-3d-vision-3dtv-play-wip-/

and make sure you are in REAL 3D not nVidia's awful compatibility mode because CM is very broken!

I managed to switch the mode to REAL 3D and then get the convergence lined up. so my mouse cursor is at least the same place. the issue I am having right now. In the video options menu, I line up the red/green separation. but in the actual game, everything is split. running in real 3d mode did fix everything to be displayed at the correct depths. the instructions in the files were a little confusing as they referred to the beta locations and not the locations on the live game which I found in this thread.

I'm also not sure how to take screen shots yet.
