I don't get it. 3 weeks ago I was able to core mine with success .. more or less. This time, I decided to go for Benitoit. Jumped into a "Hotspot", scanned about 30 rocks, - nothing. No cores. A complete waste of time.
Weird - I did just that at the weekend and found loads.I don't get it. 3 weeks ago I was able to core mine with success .. more or less. This time, I decided to go for Benitoit. Jumped into a "Hotspot", scanned about 30 rocks, - nothing. No cores. A complete waste of time.
I'm very confused. Few questions here:
- Is musgravite found in any Rocky rings or specifically in hotspots?
I'm currently parked outside a planet with Pristine Rocky rings. (There's a painite & platinum hotspot in it) If I go down into the ring, will I find musgravite? Or do I need to specifically find a hotspot?
- How do I actually find Musgravite hotspots?
I don't understand. Was Frontier's intention for me to actually fly around to different, countless systems with rocky rings and scan them for the odd chance of finding a hotspot? Unless I'm ignorant of something important, this is a really crazy, hopeless task right? This game has millions (billions?) of ringed planets. I can't just randomly fly to different systems hoping to come across a hotspot...or is that the intended design? There HAS to be an in-game method, a 3rd party tool, a list, or some meaningful way of finding musgravite hotspots.
- How common are Musgravite hotspots?
Are they rare? I've only scanned 2 rocky ring planets before I stepped back at the realization that I'd have to search countless systems. Is it not as mind-boggling hopeless as I think it is?
- Do Overlaps Matter for Core Mining as Much as Laser Mining?
Someone said overlaps matter to laser mining, but don't matter for core mining. Is this true/accurate?
"...core mining makes very little difference with over laps to cores after the FC updates"
"...over laps matter to laser mining"
Thank you for your time!

Something is definitly broken. After 3 hours and 52 rocks scanned, I finally had found one with Monazit and one with Serendibit core. Frontier shouldn't call that Hotspot. "Maybe-or-maybe-not-Spot" should be the name.![]()
I know they are there. As I said, I found two. But 2 out of 50 is a very lame quota. But maybe you and Frontier are ok with that.Other hotspots are availableYou should publish where you are so we can all have a laugh finding the cores you say are not there

yea, I might try again in 3 weeks or so. But my point is the quota. I'm pretty sure, 3 weeks ago, when I was coremining somewhere in the bubble, I have had a quota of 10 - 15 to 1 finding a rock with a core of any material. Of course, I expected more, when prospecting in a system outside the bubble. Or at least the same quota. Maybe there is problem with some belts, maybe its the randomizer-algorithm. Dunno. Frontier should look into that. But I guess, their focus is now totally on Odyssey shrugFly fast above the asteroid belt scanning with PWA, slow down before entering belt to investigate any of the better looking glowing rocks, its speed and practice that are required, or as I do most off the time - laser mine with the occasional ping and say thank you when I find one.
I do mainly Laser mining, using T9's, I also use a Krait MkII for Core mining and a Python for SSD Tritium mining, all ships are setup differently, but most are normally equipped to handle all types of rocks.
I’m with doc eisen on the core mining being, well a scam. I have visited 4 seprate core hotspots, 1 of which of my own findings, and spent 2h in each. 3 of them not a single core astroid, even when I resorted to prospecting any yellow astroid. The 4th one I found 1 void opal core, and that is it.Other hotspots are availableYou should publish where you are so we can all have a laugh finding the cores you say are not there

There are a variety off things that affect the amount off Cores within a hotspot, First check within the system map to see the reserve level, best is Pristine, others are not really worth bothering with, then there is your location within the hotspot, normally the highest amount can be found nearer the centre of it but as with laser mining the quantities can vary from one area to another within the hotspot. Try moving location by either getting above the ring and boosting along for a few minutes or if you are not worried about NPC attacks low wake to another area within the hotspot.yea, I might try again in 3 weeks or so.
