Smuggling profession just died. Higher risk, lesser returns. Might as well do normal trade runs

Thanks FD for messing up again. At least you could have stayed with the first nerf (and YES 8000/t was a too high). But why nerf it again? For what reason?

Smuggling just became interresting and now you hit all of us in the face. You basically want all of us to switch back to normal trading and bounty hunting because there is nothing else that is profitable atm. Just 2 possible ways to earn a lot of money in a sandbox game.
One step forward two steps back...

I don´t get it either. It should not be that hard to establish a reasonable premium for smuggling goods without making it a god tier activity. It should be fine for smuggler to earn more dosh than your sunday hauler, at a risk (not sure if fines alone cut it, so maybe death penalty would be nice in some extreme cases). Big risk and big payout are great when they go together. :)

For failure the player should obviously lose far more than their cargo is worth, not just a fraction of it. And they should not be able to sell it to the station whose security just scanned them! If he is foolish enough to land after that, the cargo should be impounded ASAP.

Yep, smuggling is no longer viable. Us smugglers had a good game for two days, thanks so much FD.
Now it makes less than trading but keeps the increased risk of being pirated in Archon space AND getting scanned. Not only that but you are unable to smuggle both ways.
I would do smuggling missions but the only missions that earn you anything decent Require you to be a billionaire. Makes total sense.

Welcome back to Elite Trader.

Totally called it:

+1.. Been followed this quietly and must say you nailed it.. Can you open a bug report since clearly the double fix is a mistake? Stats for archon should go back to 25%/20%.. One can hope stats for granny will go back to 20% in controlled systems too so we can have profitable imp slaves smuggling routes btwn the 2 powers..

Since the Frontier Anti-Fun Nerf Squad raided us with their patch, I went back to doing the Ma corn run! :D

Hnmmm.....I've done a bit of smuggling but I've never had to do any silent running or chaff / heat sink launching and I've never been scanned. Line up a way away, request docking and floor it and boost....is it more complicated than that? I'll concede to those who've done more of this than me, I've simply never needed to do anything else?

Not really, but popping a sink makes you feel a bit more of a badass! :D

I do much the same, and only boost because I lineup and come in from a lot further out just to be on the safe side. By the time I get to the letterbox, I'm slowing down and dropping the gear anyway.

Frontier haven't really thought through Silent Running, although I've heard from backers that it was something to write home about in the early Alpha days. Probably got nerfed because it was too much fun? :p

I have used it before, it stops them locking on to you. If they can't lock onto you, they can't scan you. In fact I've had attempts at KWS fail when the target launches chaff (flares) on me. ...

I still think you're over complicating this stuff, just drop out of supercruise and fly towards the station normally. If you hear ‘scan detected’ launch chaff. Does anyone besides me rely on this method?

I'm going to test it out. Every extra trick up your sleeve can help! :D
