4th ship - a Stealth / Smuggling / SpecOps ?

A small Saud Kruger limo-thingy.
It can only mount a luxury cabin for up to 4 passengers, with an incredible amount of hull (for its size), one huge hard point, and always stocked with Lavian Brandy.

Used to carry PP VIPs around.

Completely pointless, but that's luxury for you.

Smuggler is a must.
Ultra cold
With a Jammer for those pesky scans. Good mini game potential.
Or a bespoke pirate vessel with a tractor beam or grappling hook!

The problem with that is that pirate ships are created from ships that originally serve other purposes. No mainstream ship manufacturer is going to build a ship purposely advertised as a pirate ship.

Piracy is about stealing just about anything that floats or in elites case, flys.
What if, no known manufacturer made one?
No badge no livery, just black n ugly.

I believe you call it 'navy' when spec'd for sanctioned nefarious activity.

I was pondering this question, what could the fourth ship be, and the ends of the lines came up as possibilities, either some amazing new small short range fighter or some amazing new large hauler or defensive hauler; I can't wait to find out!

... I'd be happy with a version of the cobra that does not regularly shut down my OS! I mustn't whine about it though, it is probably the wine in my system that is having boundary issues :D

So if the trend continues, the fourth one will be a passenger luxury liner. Which would be a bit boring, to be honest.

I enjoy doing the tourist passenger missions, except last few times i've tried it i've had problems with them. Passenger not disembarking at the end, beacon scanned but mission not updating.... i just stopped doing them. If it is a passenger ship, i hope FD take a look at the current bugs with passenger missions first.

Some people just need to start using bigger guns. I bet none of these people have had even so much as a cargo bay door welded shut at the end of a CZ with the tiny peashooters they're using. In my day we used to rocket jump our way to victories.

Winning by doing slightly more damage to your opponent than to yourself. That's how you do things!
I'm really hoping that atmospheres and other geological elements are going to spice this equation up some in the future, it becomes a little tedious and lacking something, when it is quite that linear. If your maximum damage also depends upon you walking along a knife edge to maintain the upper hand, is way more fun.
Stalls when climbing and aerodynamics give you this in atmosphere, if you are using wings for lift, but admittedly tricky to model into rocket and space flight.

Sounds like a job for Mandalay, but my first Mandalay will be a combat ship, can't wait to put that advertised agility into action.

Hi :)

I will refer you to the definitive discussion on the matter: 4th SCO Ready ship prediction. (Intended as humor...)
:D...Yeah, I wondered where that topic had got too.
Anyhow, as I mentioned in that previous topic nothing much to add to that as it's all speculation until next week / next livestream etc.

The main question initially I think is...is the ship going to be a Variant, or is it going to be a completely new ship as the Mandalay is / was.
If it's a Variant then we could choose from several current ships. If it's a new ship then it could be anything in theory for whatever purpose the development team has it sketched out for. Most likely not exploration based, and probably not connected to the Thargoids as I personally think (hope) that the Thargoid story feature is coming to a close.

Jack :)

What I would give to see smuggling get some love! Profits haven't changed since Elite originally released. We're talking a measly 3-4,000cr/ton. And we lost long range "Shadow Delivery" missions years ago.

Please FDev, give us poor smugglers some attention.

The good old days of long range 'bio waste' delivery with dozens of NPCs in tow (let's be honest; it was probably illegally smuggling organs across the galaxy, it's the only reason like 30 NPCs would spawn in to try and take 'em every jump; but who was I to judge, I just ran the goods and didn't ask questions) and having to pop heat sinks like candy when whizzing into stations.

Smuggling is a great profession, I am saddened Frontier decided to invalidate then (effectively) ignore it. Some of my best memories.

It was good fun! Reinstating those missions and increasing smuggling profits would go a long ways towards making it relevant again.

We, the people*, demand a stealthy Panther Clipper. Nothing screams covert more than a ponderous brick shaped beast.

*only kidding I AM THE SENATE
What I'd like is more novelty stuff to fill in gaps.
Stuff like this:

or have a few more SLFs (say two)

Just....just anything that is not medium. Because medium is tedium- I get its the sweet spot but we have so many.

Ships without a hyperspace drive could be fun for shuttling passengers, or ground combat. A tug boat for a 'dock worker' career could be an entirely new career. FDev would need to flesh out the hangars of the space stations but that might be something really cool to have game arcs with smugglers, an in person black market, tourists etc.
A lot of the ground work already exists: Stations, space legs, the market simulation and BGS.
