Modes 5 minutes in Open...

The Replicated Man

T
For the first time in over two years I play in open with my main account...

Very first supercruise. Interdicted by a ferdelance whom shall remain unnamed.
I had no cargo, was in a lightly fitted asp.
No chat, no RP just instant death with beams and PA.
went from 4km to about 500m distance less than 10 seconds, so super engineered.

luckly less than 1m rebuy.

5 minutes.

Real Nice.

Nothing ever changes on these forums. Should I insert the obligatory "Git Gud" phrase or get my pitchfork out in your defense? Hmm.....

Wait!

It doesn't solve anything to post this on the forums OP!

Then if that was true, why did he say all modes are equal?
"All modes are equal" but the danger encountered in all modes is not equal. Brabs just forgot to add the last part. Makes it easier to avoid awkward questions about how every mode can influence the BGS equally while not facing equal levels of danger while doing so :)

Okay, now THAT was Hotel California. I'll get my coat... :p

Not a sniff of another player around though. [sad]
This is usually the case when I play as well.
and the few times I do see them there's rarely any interaction.
Not sure if it's my play times, or I'm just lucky. (or everyone is scared of my python... lol)

Is that not an adversarial FPS though?

I think the OPs point is that that it's all a bit pointless destroying players who're just minding their own business.

I was doing a bit of PP stuff this morning and I deliberately did it in Open 'cos I figured people should have a chance to counter what I was doing.

Where are you then?

I wonder if there should be a heat map of player activity (in open) that we can see on a weekly basis and perhaps use as a tool to best position ourselves to suit our personal preferences for "company"?

Personally where I am on the fringes of n00bville (LTT 15574) it's choked with players of all levels, but systems either side are often empty!

Honestly we might have to move out to find somewhere less busy, the commute is a real drag now :D

Still circling around the same points?

I'm wondering what happened between 3100's and now so that gankers become a problem? They were griefing poor cmdrs in anarchy systems, and in high sec systems, too, although less frequently. No RP from them, just speechless kills! And now the god mode button is surely needs to be pressed, in super cruise preferably, and then a bunch of complains about it needs to be spread all over the place. Meet a proud god mode button presser - a human of new era! Now go and tell everyone about your new wonderful experience.

There is such tool: http://edmc.edhits.space:8080/. But I don't think it's that useful, and I'd say you are overly scared if you are using this.

That is interesting but not really what I was meaning. More like this for player activity in open:

But simply for players in open by location, no info on ships destroyed etc.

You've got Mobius and Open confused.

Mobius: Predictable behaviour of random ships (everybody holding hands singing "kumbaya")
Open: Unpredictable behaviour of many random ships (you never know if the next CMDR you see will say hi, say nothing, attack you or whether they'll help save you or help kill you.)
Never heard anyone sing anything in Mobius.

Sure, that narrative works. That's why Mobius is so large - all the exciting unpredictability in Open. Good luck with that.

To make PvP rare and meaningful, the risks associated with death have to be more than a mild inconvenience, like it is now.

Sadly we've gone too far to the easy-mode side, it's unlikely we'll see the PvP/Piracy scene we saw in the early months again.

A lot of meaning has been lost since "the early days."
Meaningful progression though the lower Pilots Federation ranks and upgrading from ship to ship come to mind.
Meaningful consideration of module quality vs cost... Carefully considering rebuy as you peruse the list of modules and ponder if it's worth the risk upgrading the FSD to C grade.
Why? Because now money is just a "thing" like leaves, or water: It's everywhere (unless u live in Egypt, I suppose).
My commander literally delivered a single bounty (which he got by getting a couple of shots in on an Anaconda that the police were in the process of vaporising) in the recent CG on Thursday and was handed 2xx,000 for the bounty 600,000 credits for being in the "Top 100%" of the CG... WTSF.

That's 800,000 for 5 seconds' work.... Which comes in at: 576,000,000 credits per hour. Not bad for a Harmless pilot.

You were unlucky. Sometimes you go for a night out and it ends at the hospital, you shouldn't stop going out.

There's my Laksak death in the stats, look like he got one other play, too... ROFL...

Never saw that site before. Any idea how it collects stats?

That's really unfortunate... By contrast I can spend months at a time in Open and only see another player at CGs. And at those CGs I've only been interdicted once.

I'd say it's worth giving it another go, personally. Just sounds like a bad run.

I agree, that was very unfortunate. I've been playing in Open the last months in TUN and MAIA, I had no problem with the other players, in fact very polite and asking to form a wing against thargoids. Maybe I was luck or my Vette looks really agressive! :D

Good Lord, man, that sort of information would make one like a god. Only a madman or a fool would offer mere mortals the promise of such godlike powers.

The game has no law, order, crime and punishment system of any real consequence. It is so very light touch as to be laughable. There are obvious issues in making such system in games, as unlike reality, you can't realistically lock up offenders for years, or just execute them and delete their Commander, but you could actually make crime have consequences, real game play consequences that is more than some minor inconvenience and some meaningless in game money that is so very quick and easy to generate. The sorts of consequences where your whole game will change, and you have to really weigh up those consequences against your 20 seconds of fun.

Of course it could also offer lots of opportunity for new game play for people choosing that path. But instead we have a ultra light weight system that offers no real punishment for people who's only fun is ruining other people's fun. And the upcoming changes do not look like they will have any impact at all, as they miss the point entirely. It's almost as if Devs don't play the game. But of course they do play the game and know it better then any of us, and they are not stupid. We have watched them suffer the consequences of their non law system on live streams. So we must conclude that they are happy with things the way they are.

That is a shame, as it is one of this game's major failings. Fortunately it is easily mitigated by groups, however I would prefer to play with more commanders.

It's the real problem with engineers and one which they fail to address. The engineered super ships exist to give the pvpers a chance to kill before the combat log timer runs out. That means the rest of us get to suffer all to appease the most vocal minority.

So, the timer exists solely for non-proud kind of people to teleport out from slightly dangerous situations? Who would dare to address that!
