Modes 5 minutes in Open...

For the first time in over two years I play in open with my main account...

Very first supercruise. Interdicted by a ferdelance whom shall remain unnamed.
I had no cargo, was in a lightly fitted asp.
No chat, no RP just instant death with beams and PA.
went from 4km to about 500m distance less than 10 seconds, so super engineered.

luckly less than 1m rebuy.

5 minutes.

Real Nice.

That's really unfortunate... By contrast I can spend months at a time in Open and only see another player at CGs. And at those CGs I've only been interdicted once.

I'd say it's worth giving it another go, personally. Just sounds like a bad run.

Oh I have no intention of giving up...

I have 4000 rebuys. LOL.

I do see how some would give up though or just play in mobius.

Where did that happen?

I stopped playing in Open quite some time ago, since I could go for weeks without actually seeing anyone. (I usually fly around deep in Imperial space, way at the bottom of the bubble)
It even has the added benefit of faster connections to instances.

I pretty much only go into Open, when I head towards the starter systems.

Laksak... on the way to pick up phosphorus for my C5 shields which I'm trying to engineer for a type 9.

I did have two commanders o7 me as soon as I left the station... Which was nice.

I've decided that if I'm in a ship with less than 1m rebuy, I'll play in open only.

That was bad luck, but I suppose engineer systems carry some risk of hostile CMDRs. Commiserations, but don't let it put you off Open - it offers a challenge you won't get in other modes.

I was playing Escape from Tarkov today...I went onto Factory knowing the risks but got killed by a better gear'd player in less than 3 minutes.

Is that not an adversarial FPS though?

I think the OPs point is that that it's all a bit pointless destroying players who're just minding their own business.

I was doing a bit of PP stuff this morning and I deliberately did it in Open 'cos I figured people should have a chance to counter what I was doing.
Not a sniff of another player around though. [sad]

That sucks, bad luck though mate. Gotta see it is a rarity though, I've had roughly 4 or 5 deaths in open in 3 years. Last few days was in Open, flying a shieldless military T-10 hiring multi crew fighter pilots, not a single issue, all recorded (6 hours or so)

Just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I prefer private group, no pad hoggers, no delays in SC dropouts. Unfortunately you need to be in open to find a regular stream of fighter pilots.

The attacker was minding his own businees as well. It does not make you immune to other game mechanics.

OPs is just confirming his has bad expectation regarding the reality of how the game works.

I've never played in open and never will. I play this game for MY enjoyment, not some pimply faced kid who thinks that all the time spent grinding his boat into a super-ship somehow makes him superior. Got better things to do with my time. :)
Like complaining about theoretical "pimply faced kids" on a forum. Good choice on how to spend your valuable time ;)

Over 1000 hours in open, still have spare fingers to count the times I was attacked by another player.

Either some people have really bad luck, or it's like they decide to try open and go far out of their way to deliberatly getting attacked.

Mobius: Other than lack of murder, unpredictable behavior of many random ship types
Open: Predictable behavior of random ship types (ganking, griefing, pad campers, mine poopers, anything to block you from enjoying the game)

Yeah same, that's not to say there isn't a lot of mindless killers in Open, have seen a lot of attacks on players first hand. It is just down to bad luck.

As expected though. You were doing an activity that invites combat... Therefore is was possible that you were prepared for it. Of course you saw nobody.
On the other hand, the OP was preparing for the possibility, and therefore must not be already god-gineered. And so, after a few minutes, he's attacked.
